Reviews of national policies for education - Switzerland
In: Reviews of national policies for education
The Swiss education system is administered in a federal framework leaving the cantons a great deal of freedom to organise education and training. The countrys highly developed vocational training and apprenticeship schemes are based on a partnership in which the authorities, teachers and business all play an active part. But will the system that so far has made quality education and training possible suffice to provide the much more varied human resources that will be needed in the future? Education and training are still relatively compartmentalised, and teachers probably ought to be encouraged to be more mobile. All these issues are discussed in this first review of educational policy in Switzerland, which also recommends more co-ordination at national level in order to cope with manpower shortages and rise to the challenge of the single European market. Gliederung: 1. The examiners report 2. Record of the Review meeting 3. The education system in Switzerland. (HoF/Text übernommen)
