"This comparative volume on intergovernmental relations in twelve federal countries and the European Union explores one of the most vital operational aspects of federalism: interactions among orders and units of government in federal and quasi-federal systems. Such interactions take many different forms, serve a variety of purposes, and operate through a plethora of formal and informal channels. Each chapter describes the principal mechanisms and processes of intergovernmental relations, highlighting those that work well and those that do not.
