Abstract

What does the labour market look like in 20 years?
The enquiry combines qualitative future scenarios and mathematical processes to provide a qualified prognosis. It also challenges what politicians, employers and labourers need to do in order to overcome the demographic change and to persist in the international competition.
With its investigation of 44 industrial sectors, 88 occupational groups and 27 specialisms within professional education, the report offers a detailed view, which goes far beyond any previous outlooks. The results show that Germany will change from a service economy to becoming a knowledge economy, with new positions available in corporate services, financial services as well as education, health and social services. Employment positions will be lost within the manufacturing industry, trade, transport and public services.
