A Century and a Half of Diplomatic Relations
In: International affairs: a Russian journal of world politics, diplomacy and international relations, Band 54, Heft 1, S. 145-153
Abstract
Reviews the history of Russian-Uruguayan relations, first established in 1857. The substance & atmosphere of the Russian foreign minister's official visit to Uruguay in 2007 is described. Because Uruguay is the home to Mercosur & the Latin American Integration headquarters, it is asserted that Russian ties with regional integration bodies must by necessity involve Uruguay. The state of trade & economic ties is discussed, noting ups & downs & future prospects for expansion. The need for increased foreign investment is cited. Attention is also given to science, educational, & cultural cooperation, & ethnic Russians in Uruguay. D. Edelman
