In rapida sintesi, si propongono i grandi problemi attorno ai quali si è incentrata nel Novecento la ricerca sul medioevo europeo (sino al secolo XI): rapporti tra mondo latino e mondo tedesco, relazioni tra cristianesimo e potere, dialettica tra universalismi e localismi. ; This paper comes from a lecture delivered in 1994 to high school teachers. It briefly deals with the relevant problems faced by the research on the European Middle Age (considered until the 11th century) in the 20th-century: relationships between Latin and German world, Christianity and political power, dialectic between universalism and localism.

In the Nineties year in the German Studies' area appears a new reflection around the theatrical chorus thank to the activity of theatrical personalities as Heiner Müller, Einar Schleef, Elfriede Jelinek or Christoph Marthaler. So Hans Thies Lehmann, in his compendium about the Postdramatic Theater (Hans-Thies Lehmann, Postdramatisches Theater, Verlag der Autoren, Frankfurt am Main 1999) advances the new category of the Chortheater (Chor Theatre) to explain e new form of drama and performative event; again in 1999 appear the important essay of Detlev Baur (Detlev Baur, Der Chor im Theater des 20. Jahrhunderts. Typologie des theatralen Mittels Chor, Niemeyer, Tübingen 1999), that gives an important device about this instrument but without giving the reasons of the its modifications in such different historical times. Then in 2004, Erika Fischer-Lichte, (Theatre, Sacrifice, Ritual. Exploring Forms of Political Theatre, Routledge, London-New York 2005), reflects about the connection between ritual and theatre in the 20th Century. Thank to this studies the search aim was to give a new story of the chorus as theatrical and performative tool, in his liminal essence in creating immersive or alienating theatrical relation with the audience and to give specific features to distinguish it from general categories such as choral theatre o ensemble theatre.

At the turn of the 20th century, Crete was 'suspended between East and West' in more ways than one. In the aftermath of numerous insurrections, intense ethno-communal strife, and a great deal of human and material destruction, the island passed from direct Ottoman rule to a regime of 'semi-independence'. However, overt Great Power tutelage, a conservative constitution 'with defects of infancy', a weak and depleted economy, and an incessant predilection for the politics of enosis did little to enhance the island's path to progress. Undoubtedly, the particular historical juncture that brought about the hybrid Cretan state and Prince George's 'unfortunate regime' was instrumental in turning the island into an archaeological 'El Dorado', with the British at the helm. But the political contingency aside, 'personal factors', I argue, were of equal importance. In particular, the rapport that Chatzidakes and Xanthoudides had established with Evans facilitated the convergence of national (Cretan) archaeology as a means of incorporating the island into European modernity with colonial archaeology, which in turn has left its weighty imprint especially on the appropriation of the 'Minoan' past.

During the 20th century, the format of domestic life became an explicit object of functional reworking and rewriting. Thanks to the industrialisation processes that affected it, the home entered the era of its technical reproducibility, becoming a container aimed at optimising the functions it is called upon to perform. The meanings that were associated with it in the bourgeois tradition of the previous century, first and foremost that of being the place of intimacy and family affection, underwent a significant transformation. The signs of this transformation are particularly evident in the experimental and futuristic projects on human domesticity by Richard Buckminster Fuller. Thanks to them, domesticity enters a new horizon of expression, even beyond the architectural imagination, anticipating elements and characteristics that define its contemporary condition. ; Nel corso del XX secolo il formato della vita domestica è diventato oggetto esplicito di una rielaborazione e di una riscrittura funzionale. La casa, grazie ai processi d'industrializzazione che la investono, entra nell'epoca della sua riproducibilità tecnica, trasformandosi in un contenitore finalizzato a ottimizzare le funzioni che è chiamata ad assolvere. I significati che ad essa venivano associati nella tradizione borghese del secolo precedente, in primo luogo quello di essere il luogo dell'intimità e degli affetti familiari, subiscono una significativa trasformazione. I segni di tale trasformazione sono particolarmente evidenti nei progetti sperimentali e avveniristici sulla domesticità umana compiuti da Richard Buckminster Fuller. Grazie ad essi la domesticità entra in un nuovo orizzonte di espressione, anche al di là dell'immaginazione architettonica, anticipando elementi e caratteristiche che ne definiscono la condizione contemporanea.

La ricerca si propone di indagare la figura di Mario Labò (1884-1961), architetto-progettista, attento mediatore culturale impegnato negli studi storiografici, nella critica dell'arte, nella politica e protagonista dell'avanguardia razionalista. Si intende definirne il profilo culturale eseguendo una lettura critica e consapevole delle numerose fonti scritte, dell'opera progettuale, studiando i rapporti intrapresi con i contesti nazionali e internazionali delle avanguardie culturali di inizio Novecento. La ricerca vuole raccontare, attraverso l'attenta analisi delle fonti di archivio e lo studio approfondito dell'opera culturale di Mario Labò, le prime sei decadi del XX secolo. Inoltre, l'obbiettivo di questa tesi è quello di fornire un primo contributo sugli elementi compositivi della sua architettura in rapporto agli anni della formazione e agli scritti da lui prodotti. ; The research aims at exploring the activity of Mario Labò (1884-1961), architect, designer, cultural mediator, representative of the rationalist avant-garde, committed in historiographical studies, art criticism and politics. The objective is to define his cultural profile through a critical reading of the numerous written sources, to study his architectural works and the relationships established with the cultural national and international avant-garde of the beginning of the 20th century. The current bibliography and the limited number of studied carried on Mario Labò are insufficient to point out the importance of his architectural production and, above all, of Labò himself as "man of culture", with his relationships and his active role in the dialogue with other representatives of modern architecture. The research wants to describe the first six decades of the 20th century through a detailed analysis of Labò's archives and cultural works.

Desde que Paul Virilio hiciera una Exposición sobre los búnkeres de la Segunda Guerra Mundial en 1975, el Muro Atlantik (1942-1944) pasó de estar en el olvido a formar parte de la primera línea patrimonial. Este trabajo se ha convertido en un referente para cualquier investigación que aborde las defensas militares de las guerras del siglo XX al acercar estos dispositivos abandonados tras el conflicto a la arquitectura moderna. En el caso de Atlantikwall, se conservan documentos gráficos y permiten estudiar las estrategias militares de implantación en el litoral y las relaciones entre forma geométrica y armamento a través de las tipologías arquitectónicas. En el caso de España, los búnkeres hicieron acto de presencia con motivo de la guerra civil (1936-1939), tanto en los territorios del bando republicano como en los del bando rebelde. España fue un laboratorio de pruebas y experimentación de armas y arquitecturas militares que luego serían utilizadas en el enfrentamiento europeo. En cierto sentido, aunque ya se habían levantado otras líneas defensivas (como la Línea Maginot), el Mediterráneo español sería el primer lugar donde se ensayarían estos fuertes y baterías que constituían asentamientos defensivos para proteger ciudades y ciudadanos de los ataques aéreos del bando nacional desde la isla de Mallorca. Muchos de los planos de búnkeres y baterías, que obedecen a patrones de catálogos militares, se perdieron durante la contienda, dada la urgencia de las acciones que se llevaron a cabo de forma un tanto desorganizada. Se trata, por tanto, de restaurar los documentos gráficos desaparecidos mediante el levantamiento de estas arquitecturas que aún se mantienen en pie en lugares singulares porque pretendían repeler los ataques del enemigo por tierra, mar y aire.
