; Between the 16th and 18th centuries, European courts adopted population policies to reform their borderland through the implant of foreign colonists. This essay attempts to provide a preliminary examination of this kind of public intervention from a logistic perspective.

This article investigates the peculiarities of «fascismo di confine» in Zara, characterized by the lesser extent of conflict between early Fascism on one hand, communism and ethnic minorities on the other. Fascist activists, although defeated in two elections, gained momentum and visibility, and, parallel to the rise of Mussolini's influence, improved their networks and structures contributing to a circulation of the local political elite. Violence, both in the discourse and the activities of Fascists in Zara, was crucial in this process. Through the use of local press and archival sources, it focuses on the main actors, their social background and their biographic trajectory, questioning the framework and the limits for cooperation in regards to other political factions. While Fascists had a significant degree of integration in local politics already before Mussolini's seizure of power, this event enacted a dialectic relationship to the central apparatus, placing these activists under the control of loyal prefects and party functionaries.

Politics of Memory in Slovenia and in the Northern Adriatic between national practices and international entanglements This essay analyzes the politics of memory in Slovenia and in the Italo-Slovene borderlands from the 1990s until the present. It does so by questioning the transformation of the memorial landscape in Slovenia and it illustrates how the calls for a national reconciliation brought to the revision of historical narratives in the public space. However, using a decentered and comparative perspective, it demonstrates that this phenomenon is not peculiar to Slovenia as a post-socialist country, but it represents a common European feature. The case of the Italo-Slovene borderland shows that if politics of memory in post-Cold War Slovenia are as they are, is not only because of the country's socialist past, but they are framed in close international interaction with mnemonic narratives in neighboring Italy.

Today, the identification of migrants with asylum seekers and the overestimation of inflows – also referred to as the "refugee crisis" – has meant that Italy, as a politically strategic borderland of Europe, coincides with a battleground between sovereign drives and solidarity tensions. If refugees are the most visible object of political contention, governance operated by Ngo's and, more generally, by civil society, sees women in the front row in a battle aimed at re-humanizing politics. The clash, which lasted for weeks between Captain Rackete of Sea Watch 3 and Minister Salvini, did not only represent a confrontation between reception policies and rejection policies, between the dehumanization of the human and care as a distinguishing element of humanity, but a clash between political power and policy. In the following months, the honorary citizenship conferred on the captain in France reinvigorated the image of a female who pushes against "the established power", referring to an ancestral symbolic of motherhood that becomes indiscriminate acceptance. The proposed article intends to explore the contribution of the female stakeholder and the elements that connote their gaze towards otherness and the support tools used, in order to focus on its distinguishing features of a f

; In consequence of the Second World War Gorizia was torn by the revised political border between Italy and Yugoslavia. The new partition separated the town from the majority of its complementary region, inclusive of a substantial part of its periphery, where a new urban organism was later to be developed. Such a boundary line deeply affected, also for its symbolic value, the life experience of the people and the original balance of the territorial layout. Indeed for decades it represented a clear divide between Eastern and Western Europe. By the Treaty of Osimo the political border began to lose its peculiar impermeability allowing a more peaceful coexistence of peoples in the border area. A new climate which was bound to strengthen when Slovenia took the place of the former Yugoslavia. Following the Schengen agreements the border lost almost all its functional character. Therefore we are now able to explore in great detail the complex geographical peculiarity of a boundary belt superimposed on an urban environment with its original typology, that in some cases appears paradoxical. The practical fall of the border is inducing the development of processes of reorganization and readjustment in the urban fabric, which is of great interest to the geographer. A detailed investigation of the borderland layout carried on by comparing the maps published by both countries and followed by accurate surveys may help us to recognize the essential features of the areal organization.

; At the beginning of the 12th century, in the course of a few years, the dukes of Puglia and the lords of Nocera put an end to a period of contrasts and redrew the map of powers in the area North of Salerno. The Trinità di Cava became the core of this new balance. Confirming its already evident inclination to act as a mediator in the conflicts between secular powers, the Trinità directed the agreements between the parts to its advantage through the payment of large amounts of money. Thus, it came into possession of an important castle and of the whole of the land of the involved parties inside a large area, delimited on in this occasion by neat boundaries. However, such area, lacking military defences in its Northern part, at the time was neither a territory subjected to a lordship nor a free space; it was, rather, a compensation area, avoiding contacts between the two rival powers. Only several decades later, when the Cava area was no more a borderland between different rules, the Trinità got hold of it and built up new fortifications, thus giving its presence in the area a lordship character.
