Ausgehend von den ökonomischen und sozialen Rahmenbedingungen von Burundi, eines der ärmsten und technologisch rückständigsten Länder der Welt, stellt der Verfasser des Handbuchartikels die Ansätze einer Gewerkschaftsbewegung in diesem Land dar. Während der belgischen Kolonialherrschaft wurden bis 1962, dem Jahr der Unabhängigkeit, auf Initiative belgischer Gewerkschaften Gründungen von Arbeiterorganisationen in Burundi vorgenommen. Nach der Unabhängigkeit wurden weitere Gewerkschaften gegründet, diese haben nach Ansicht des Autors aber niemals eine Rolle als Interessenvertretung der Arbeiter gespielt, ihnen sei es nicht gelungen, Massenorganisationen zu werden. Ergänzt wird die inhaltliche Darstellung durch Literaturhinweise und die Anschrift des burundischen Gewerkschaftsbundes. (KS)
