The political practice is at the core of the personal and ecclesial Christian experience. This dynamic has as its absolute the historical faith in JESUS within the execution of popular sovereignty building common good, the separation between Church and State, the prevalence of ethics and law, the realization of the preference option by poor people, the constitution of an authority and the obtaining of minimum political consensus at local, national and international level. The theological ethical background of all this issue from the bible, the ecclesial tradition and the commitment of contemporary Christian community, is the goal of this article.

It is not easy for the Byzantine case the distinction between spiritualpower and earthly power. The gap between them is so narrow that the analysisof political phenomena is difficult: the Church and the State argue both thebody and soul of a society. Understanding the political phenomenon particularlyByzantine, to avoid anachronistic interpretations and judgments requires carefulreview of the sources, within which the works of Eusebius of Caesarea and"Prince Mirrors" are references to extraordinary scientific value.

; Western civilization is currently characterized by a deep cultural divide. This divide positions, on confronting sides, the "conservatives" who still maintain a cultural and moral Judeo-Christian heritage and the "progressives" who regard such a heritage as obsolete and instead uphold the relativistic, hedonistic, liberationist worldview of the postmodern Left. The major battlefields where this "war" is waged are: bioethics (abortion, euthanasia, genetic engineering); sexual ethics and the family model (gender ideology, gay marriage, etc.); and the role of religion in public life. The Left failed to fulfill its classical agenda (socialism) in the 20th century. It has now replaced its socio-economic revolution by a sexual, moral and cultural one. But the political Right has not yet grasped this shift: right-wing parties are often reluctant to develop distinctive positions on those issues, clearly distinguishable from those of the Left.

The article aims to make a contribution to the subject of the recent ideological evolution of progressive Christianity in Spain and its adaptation to the changes that have taken place after the end of the historical experience of "real" socialism. This is done through the case of the Jesuit Center of Studies Christianity and Justice of Catalonia, of singular implantation and intellectual relevance, mainly through the analysis of its periodical publications since its founding in 1981. The study shows a growing distancing from the initial positions of the Centre on certain Marxist postulates and the Liberation Theology to approach quickly and increasingly to a more pragmatic social democracy and to relativistic stances typical of post-modernity.

This contribution was made within the framework of our academic-research work at UNED, always in search for a better understanding of national reality. For this reason, and from a qualitative-documentary perspective, the moments were approached when, apparently, social-christian ideology –Social Doctrine of Catholic Church– influenced internal economic conditions, given its proximity to the current of economic liberalism. In this way, we arrive at considerations that start in the 1940s and until 2006, which allow us to infer the existence of a political group with catholic tendencies, but that at no time hid their preference for such a current; that although latent, has not event taken the radical form that they advocate.

; Neither the proposed European Constitution nor the Lisbon Treaty made any mention of Christianity, nor are there any references to Christianity or Christian churches in the ordinary documents of the European Union. This essay explores the likely root causes of such omission. Given that the constitutions of many European member-states refer to God and/or Christianity (and in some case seven establish an official religion), the European Constitution did not simply transfer the status quoat national level to the international sphere. The root cause of the 'Christophobia' that marks the current Eurocracy would appear to lie in a rejection of its own cultural origins: a civilizational self-denial .Europe seeks to define its identity in terms of abstract universal values such as freedom, human rights, etc. Nevertheless, the reason such liberal-democratic values emerged in the West is because they are secularized versions of Christian values.

This article goes through Foucault's examination of the Christian matrix in the genealogy of modern governmentality, in order to think about the genetic and morphological relationship between the Christian pastoral and the political government. The conceptualization of the historical move from Christian government of souls to the modern political government offers categories to revisit the religious dimension of the governmentality in relation to its liberal evolution. Thus, the article analyzes the link between political economy and Christian typology of conduct in the process of moralization of the lower classes of the 18th century. At this point, Weber offers a conceptualization of the articulation between Christian behavior, professional ethics and capitalism.

The conversion of the Africans to Christianity was a long process that began in Africa and concluded in the New World. The religious protection and the health of the soul of the slave, was, for the slave owner and the State, a permanent obligation. But carrying out this moral obligation involved a multitude of factors: Spaniards did not know African languages, massive numbers arrived at the principal ports of entry, contraband of slaves, a lack of ecclesiastic control due to the lack of priests and missionaries and non compliance on the part of slave owners. All of this meant that the Christianization of the slaves occurred with less rigor than with the Indians, whose conversion to Christianity was a priority during all stages of the conquest and colonization. In the essay that follows, I hope to show some aspects of this problem by studying the legislation, the ecclesiastic precepts, as well as the customs followed in the distinct places of destination of the African slaves. I have also attempted to focus this theme in the area of the River Plate and, accordingly, the paper is based on edited documentary sources in addition to documentation found in the National Archive of Argentina and the Archive of the Indies, in Spain.
