Usefulness of existing databases on homeless people for policymaking The article, based on different quality indicators (such as stability of definitions, data accessibility, connectivity and data interchangeability, frequency of data collection, targeting population, exclusivity and data accuracy), explores three types of databases on homeless people. Among analyzed databases, there are: a) database on social care programmes financed by the Ministry of Labour, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities; b) database on social care programmes included in evaluation sheme financed by this ministry; c) database on information system of centres for social work. The article's main contribution is a systematic review of databases usefulness, their (dis)advantages, and opportunities for researchers and policymakers.
While considering a two-level approach, in the article we discuss systemic issues related to occupational safety and health (OSH) data. On the individual level, we focus on OSH incidents that indicate the status of occupational health. On the company level, we examine OSH management data that reveal the monitoring system. Our analysis shows that the Slovenian OSH data collection system depends on employers' reporting rather than on professionals monitoring workers' health. The OSH system is oriented to legal compliance more than the regular monitoring of OSH activities. The introduction of systemic measures that integrate the various OSH stakeholders and reintegrate occupational medicine into the health system is recommended. Keywords: occupational medicine, occupational health, occupational safety, occupational diseases, occupational injuries, Slovenia
An overview of the results of the final theses of students of the Faculty of Social Work on social work with people with dementia A meta-analysis of students' theses from the past five years (2016–2020) on the topic of social work with people with dementia is presented. Among the themes explored, work in institutions as well as work in the family setting of people with dementia predominate; community work topics emerge to a lesser extent. Thus, the role of social work and the use of social work methods are researched somewhat more in institutions, but again, only in individual institutions. However, this topic does not appear in research on people with dementia in the home setting. Most research is qualitative and based on non-random convenience samples using interviews as the method of data collection. Often, students explore the challenges and needs of those involved in caring for people with dementia, but with less emphasis on numbers. In the future, the focus will need to be on research on community and on (social) work with people with dementia in their home environments, and the use of social work methods and other forms of work with people with dementia need to be explored in more depth.
; A challenge for the research is mainly to analyse how much money do Latvia and Slovenia contribute to the European Union's budget and how much money do they recompensate from the European funds. The purpose of the analysis is to find out which areas do the two countries treat with the highest priority and also to find out how effective they are in achieving the set goals of the 2014 – 2020 financial perspective. Description of facts and concepts, as well as their study on the basis of foreign and domestic scientific literature, was based on the method of description. Collection of numerical data and statistical analyses were carried out using the quantitative method. The comparison method was used to conduct a comparison between the countries, whereas the compilation method was used to confirm or reject the hypotheses. The analysis showed that a resident of Latvia receives more financial means from the EU funds than a resident of Slovenia. Furthermore, the latter also contributes more to the EU budget than the resident of Latvia. Cohesion fund's received financial means per capita depend on gross domestic product (GDP) per capita and thus affect the country's development. Latvia receives more such means and also has lower GDP per capita than Slovenia. However, Slovenia is more efficient at using the resources of the European Social Fund and Funds for research and innovation. The analysis that was carried out aids in the improvement of next financial perspective to be more efficient in gaining and using the EU funds. It is also an indicator of how successful both countries are when it comes to using EU funds and what are the indicators of the funds used. The successful absorption of European funds enables the development and growth of the country, especially in the economic and social perspective.
; Although the Slovenian Jewish and Holocaust studies which have successfully consolidated during the past decade and a half does not enjoy any systematic support and financing from the part of the Slovenian state, they are nevertheless one of the most propulsive fields of scientific inquiry, with a proliferation of seminal publications. The yearly "Shoah - Let Us Remember" symposium organised by Synagogue Maribor as a central part of the commemorations of the Holocaust Remembrance Day regularly brings to light a wealth of new data, insights and syntheses. The reasons for such flourishing of the Slovenian Jewish and Holocaust studies are perhaps twofold: one, there exists a growing understanding especially among the engaged intellectuals in the social sciences and historiography that Slovenia has yet to embark on, and conclude the process of de-Fascistisation, the process that was nowhere in the western world a particularly swift or immediate one. Two, there exists a growing public awareness that history tends to repeat itself in a cyclic fashion and that the collapse of social and economic structures and the sharp decline of democratic principles such as we have witnessed especially since the 2008 world financial crisis bear striking resemblances to the circumstances that existed in the pre-WWII world, and that caused an unheard of genocide and global war. This volume is yet another in the series of very poignant publications on the Holocaust in Slovenia. It is especially commendable that the authors have taken a decisive step into studying the genocide perpetrated on the Romany who was, next to the Jews, principal victims of systematic Nazi extermination policies. Most appropriately, the volume also examines the more exceptional fates of the Jews who were veteran officers of WWII in the Austro-Hungarian armada, and a portrait of Slovenian resistance fighter Ali Kardoš. Two portraits of Slovenian "Righteous Among the Nations", customs officer Uroš Žun and Catholic priest Andrej Tumpej, complement these historical portraits. All these histories are cast against the backdrop of a huge, tragic canvas of Jewish refugees who have, following the Anschluss of Austria in 1938, flooded Europe, ex-Yugoslavia as well, in their frantic search of an exit from "mousetrap Europe". Objavljivanje zbornika sufinansirala je Opština Maribor (the collection was prepared as part of the Shoah project - let's remember 2012/2013 financially supported by the International Holocaust Remembrance Association (IHRA) Holocaust Remembrance Alliance. The publication of the proceedings was co-financed by the City Municipality Maribor).
