Objective: to analyze the facilities and difficulties of nurse managers in care management implementation in hospitals. Methods: this is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach carried out from October to November 2012, in a public tertiary referral hospital in Fortaleza-CE. Data collection was performed using semi-structured interviews. The technique used for the interpretation of the data was content analysis. Results: we found as factors that facilitate the development of care management support from the leader of the hospital's nursing sector and the dialectical relationship between the team members. As noted impediments to hospital physical structure and the lack of staff. Conclusion: the study seeks to sensitize the discussion on care management, because the link between the management and care activities, it is important for innovation and renewal of the nursing work process.

Objective: To describe the socioeconomic and reproductive profile of female prisoners. Method: The sample consisted of 47 female inmates of penitentiaries and Teresina peaks. For data collection a form prescribed by the researcher was used. Data were collected from July to August 2013, which were tabulated and analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20.0. Results: Showed a profile of young, unmarried women, who exercised occupation that required little skill, low education and income. Regarding reproductive health, 42,5% were multiparous, and 40,4% had less than six visits. The abortion rate was high, 42,5%. Conclusion: There was a need to plan educational strategies to prevent injuries to sexual and reproductive health of prisoners, being essential to the development of tactics to break down educational barriers and generate behavior change and promote self-care.

Objectives: to identify the knowledge of women about the effects of alcohol intake during pregnancy; to propose educative actions involving this topic for guidance on women's health in the pre-conception and gestational period. Method: exploratory study of quantitative character. The scenario was the Estacio de Sa University (campus Niteroi-RJ). The subjects were 99 women. A structured interview was used for data collection and it was conducted after the research was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the University. Results: analysis of the data collected has allowed to identify women's ignorance on the subject and reduced participation of the nursing professional in the orientation of these women. Conclusion: it is necessary to increase the disclosure of these damages to health through educational campaigns promoted by health institutions and greater participation of nursing professionals in the education of this target audience.

Objectives: to observe the implementation of Canadian protocols for patients with heart failure, and identify with nurses, health education aspects. Method: exploratory research in the period from August to December 2013, where the data collection was carried out by observation during the Shadow Experience and interview of Canadian nurses. For data analysis, we used descriptive statistics. Results: 28 patients were observed in the Shadow Experience strategy at different levels of care, and 13 nurses interviewed. In health education, interpersonal contact was the most used strategy (69,23%), treatment was the priority share (76,92%), followed by prevention (30,77%). There are challenges with respect to harmful lifestyle habits, and self-care considered ineffective (38,46%). Conclusion: interpersonal interaction, which involved professionals and Canadian individuals at different levels of care, helped to identify in their implementation, basic actions and challenges for heart failure.

This study set out to identify the availability and extent of the use of instructional materials in the teaching and learning of Igbo language in Obollo-Afor Educational Zone. The work adopted a survey design and two research questions guided the study. Instrument for data collection was a researcher made questionnaire with 40 items. The data obtained were analyzed using percentage, mean and standard deviation. The results indicated that most of the instructional resources were not available in the schools, while the few available ones were utilized to low and very low extent. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that government should provide resources for Igbo language instruction and that seminars and workshops should be organized for the teachers on the importance of using instructional materials in delivering their lessons. Objective: To analyze the knowledge and actions performed by Community Health Agents (CHA), related to chronic non-communicable diseases (CNCDs) in elderly patients. Method: Qualitative and descriptive research. The data collection occurred through interviews with 20 ACS. The information was analyzed following the steps of content analysis. Results: The data converged for the construction of two categories. One is about knowledge for CHA performance, and the other the educative actions performed by CHA with the elderly population. Final considerations: They were identified limitations in the knowledge and actions developed by CHA regarding the CNCD in elderly, restricting the care concerning diseases such as diabetes and hypertension. This condition reflects in the work of these professionals, but it can be modified with educational actions intended to CHA, for which they can qualify their practices along with the elderly population.

Studies of social mobility typically focus on the associations between the socioeconomic characteristics of individuals and families in one generation and those same characteristics for the next generation. Yet the life chances of individuals may be affected by a wider network of kin than just the nuclear family, including grandparents, aunts and uncles, siblings, and even more remote kin. In planning new studies of intergenerational social mobility, researchers should consider the ways that more remote kin may affect socioeconomic success and hardship and design data collection strategies for collecting data on wider kin networks. Administrative record linkage and survey research have complementary advantages for identifying kin networks. Successful implementation of these approaches holds the promise of a much richer set of studies of intergenerational social mobility than most researchers have attempted thus far.

This paper exposed the major challenges that the non‐governmental organizations (NGOs) face in improving development ownership among vulnerable people in community empowerment projects in Bangladesh. The finding, based on a qualitative research approach, used multi‐method data collection procedures. Data were collected from two NGOs, Proshika and Practical Action Bangladesh (PAB), working with two vulnerable communities—blacksmiths and goldsmiths. The results showed that NGOs faced a number of challenges, including lack of understanding about the local context, initiatives to localize global development tools, developing partnership, and space for local people in the development processes. The paper argued that, without securing development ownership, the NGOs' activities toward community empowerment of vulnerable people would not be possible. The findings of the paper would be valuable guidelines for policy makers, development practitioners, NGO workers, and academicians.

Includes bibliographical references. ; The following research presents an exploration on the role that competency assessments and competency reports play in child sexual abuse cases. This research is informed by forensic social workers in practice within the Gauteng Province. The respondents work both within government organisations and non-government organisations. This research uses a mixed methodology approach to explore practices around competency assessments and competency reports. The respondents completed two forms of data collection namely a survey and were part of a focus group which was conducted by the researcher. The findings therefore presents both quantitative and qualitative data, and are discussed to further elaborate on practices within the Gauteng Province. Conclusions and recommendations were made by both the researcher and the respondents, which are supported by the findings of this research and existing literature in the field.

Objective: discussing the national policy of primary care in the Unified Health System with health professionals from three municipal health centers. Method: a qualitative, descriptive-reflective and action research. The population was health professionals that serve women and children. We selected all professionals of municipal health centers program area of 1.0. For data collection were conducted three seminars which were recorded and transcribed, with carved minutes. The study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the School of Nursing Anna Nery under Protocol No. 37/08. Results: the data were subjected to thematic analysis, followed by the construction of four categories. Conclusion: the subjects believe that the greatest difficulty in carrying out the principles of primary health care is a lack of human resources to carry out educational activities within the collective as the individual is realized.

Purpose – The challenge of attracting and retaining high performing employees is significant. Research in general has shown a link between Job stress, Job Satisfaction, Employee Commitment, Organizational commitment and personality factors (Internal LOC). This study aims to focus on examining the relationship between these variable with turnover intention.Design/methodology/approach – The sample comprised 180 professional staff across different organizations (Education sectors, Banking sector and Health sectors) of Punjab province of Pakistan. Following data collection, self-administered Questionnaire, using previous scale, is applied to conduct data analysis for Turnover Intention of employees.Findings – Results using regression analysis showed that, there is inverse relationship between job stress and turnover intention through mediating variables that are, job satisfaction, employee commitment, organization commitment. However, contrary to our predictions, test results indicated positive relation between Locus of control and Turnover Intention.

Demographers interested in abortion in the United States have thus far focused on cross‐sectional and synthetic cohort measures, reflecting data availability. We now have cohorts that have completed their entire reproductive years after the Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion nationwide. For women who are still in their childbearing years at the conclusion of data collection, I apply the Lee‐Carter forecasting technique—its first application in abortion research—to project their completed age‐specific abortion rates. Using true cohort measures reveals markedly different abortion experiences by cohort; in particular, a significant declining trend. I find stability in the distribution of abortion by abortion order and the racial composition of abortion incidences. In addition to the substantive findings, cohort measures shift the focus of quantitative abortion research from incidence rates to women's lives over their reproductive years.

AbstractDaniel Aldrich has written a masterful book with Building Resilience: Social Capital in Post‐Disaster Recovery. In this comment on the book, I discuss some of the challenges he faced and tried to overcome in finding and using indicators of social capital and disaster recovery. Having recently completed a very large data collection effort myself in post‐Katrina New Orleans, I describe some of the tasks that face researchers. I also highlight some of the requirements of combining survey with spatial and government data. Then I discuss some of the policy issues in recovery. I share Aldrich's skepticism of top‐down approaches, though of course they are a necessary component, and describe some ways they may be unhelpful or even counterproductive. When community members work together effectively, they can sometimes even bend the curve of resources required for recovery.

The study was conducted to ascertain knowledge of hypertension among adults in Owerri senatorial zone of Imo state, Nigeria. Three specific objectives were formulated with three corresponding research questions. The only null-hypothesis was also postulated to guide the study. Descriptive survey research design was used and the sample consisted of 432 adults. Questionnaire was the instrument for data collection. Percentages and ANOVA were used to analyze the data. The results of the study showed that adults had high level of knowledge of the concept and risk factors of hypertension. There was significant difference in the level of knowledge of hypertension among adults according to level of education. The study therefore recommends that government and voluntary health agencies should sponsor intensive enlightenment campaign through print and electronic media in order to sustain the knowledge level of adults on hypertension. The study examined the relationship that exist between the capital structure mix of the SMEs and the overall performance of the firm over the year s, poor combination of debt-equity finance has been the bane of small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs) in Nigerian. The study made use of questionnaire a survey method for data collection and chi-square a non-parametric method for data analysis. The study revealed that most SMEs have an all equity finance structure and has a less debt finance to equity finance. It also revealed that the earning, survival and growth of the SMEs is strongly influence by the capital structure mix.It was recommended that the government should design a homegrown and SMEs friendly debt financing structure and managers of SMES should also seek professional advice when approaching financial institutions for debt finance.
