Contemporary models of digital inclusion and the digital divide assume that developing the digital literacy that enables individuals to participate in society is a sequential and linear process that is more or less similar for all individuals in all contexts and requires basic linguistic skills. This paper challenges these understandings, arguing that such a technical, normative perspective excludes marginalized and disadvantaged publics, such as low-(digital) literate citizens. Based on a longitudinal ethnographic study of low-literate Dutch adults, we show that the often-described causal relation between (digital) literacies, (digital) participation, and (digital) inclusion is not as evident as it seems and neglects the important socio-cultural contexts through which (digital) literacies are often gained and enacted in everyday practice. Consequently, we argue that current conceptualizations of (digital) inclusion and (digital) participation need to be rethought in terms of the limitations, potential, and capabilities of low-literate people.

"Die digitale Spaltung bzw. der digital divide ist eine beliebte Metapher, mit der Unterschiede in der sozialen und territorialen Ausbreitung und Nutzung des Internet bezeichnet werden. Während von einigen die Spaltung als ein Übergangsphänomen auf dem Weg zur digitalen Vollversorgung betrachtet wird, fordern andere gezielte Maßnahmen ein, um die Spaltung zu überwinden. Regierungen, Unternehmen, aber auch zivilgesellschaftliche Gruppen haben sich zum Ziel gesetzt, den digital divide zu bekämpfen. Dabei überwiegt eine statische und dichotome Betrachtungsweise des Problems, und Maßnahmen zur Beseitigung der Unterschiede setzen an der Erleichterung des Zugangs zum Netz an. Tatsächlich sind viele digitale Unterschiede aber eher kontinuierlich als diskret, und es ist zu erwarten, dass sie sich im Zeitablauf reproduzieren. Schon die frühe Entwicklung des Internet ist eine Geschichte von Disparitäten und Differenzierungen. Sie zeigt, dass aus technischen Innovationen resultierende Ungleichheiten Bemühungen der Betroffenen auslösen, die Unterschiede auszugleichen, was die Ausbreitung des Netzes vorantreibt. Im Entwicklungsverlauf verlagern sich die Disparitäten von der bloßen Möglichkeit des Zugangs zum Internet auf technische und soziale Mechanismen der Inklusion und Exklusion. Speziell technisch unterstützte neue Nutzungsmöglichkeiten lösen aber wiederum auch Nachahmer-Prozesse aus, die - auch ohne staatliche Intervention - digitale Unterschiede verringern. Insgesamt überlagern sich politische (industrie-, technologie- und infrastrukturpolitische) Prozesse und Marktprozesse, die je für sich und im Zusammenwirken digitale Unterschiede beseitigen und erzeugen. Ein Blick in die Forschung über die Strukturierung sehr großer Netzwerke lässt vermuten, dass auch bei relativ gleich verteilten Fähigkeiten der Nutzung des Internet die einzelnen Nutzer (Netzknoten) keineswegs jeweils ähnliche Positionen in der Netzstruktur einnehmen. Vielmehr ist zu erwarten, dass das Nutzungsverhalten eine sehr schiefe Verteilung mit vielen schwach und wenigen stark vernetzten Knoten erzeugt ('scale-free' networks), was die Erwartungen einer generell Gleichheit fördernden Wirkung des Internet enttäuscht." Algorithmic management is increasingly used to (semi-)automatically organise, measure and control labour in many sectors and industries. Based on empirical research in the (online and location-bound) gig economy, the paper argues that this digital automation of management allows for the quick and flexible inclusion of a broad range of workers in very diverse situations into production. This is shown, firstly, by the example of crowdwork platforms and their ability to integrate diverse and spatially distributed workers into labour processes. Secondly, the paper analyses the role of migrant labour for the urban gig economy and argues, that here, too, digital technologies and algorithmic management are to be understood as being part and parcel of a multifaceted process of the heterogenization of workforces. This particular effect and quality of algorithmic management and digital stand-ardization is conceptually analysed in the framework of a multiplication of labour.

Effective and rights-respecting hate speech interventions should encourage cohesion more than hate and inclusion more than division. Importantly, they should also guarantee the right to be and to express. Unfortunately, most countries, including Nigeria, lack effective hate speech interventions. This chapter considers specific ways to make hate speech interventions in Nigeria more effective while guaranteeing the protection of the right to freedom of expression, especially in the digital age. Thus, this chapter considers international human rights law and ideas on hate speech interventions, various hate speech interventions in Nigeria, and Nigeria's obligation to comply with international human rights instruments to achieve better results. It concludes that one of the best ways to ensure these interventions' effectiveness is combining alternative methods, such as strategic training, education, public awareness, and a multistakeholder approach.

Consumers are becoming increasingly more informed about food systems and are interested not only in healthy, safe, and tasty food but also sustainable production, animal welfare, climate changes, and food waste. Consumers are also more focused on changing their lifestyle related to improved health knowledge and nutrition education (Timmer 2005). Maxwell and Slater (2004) have proposed criteria to evaluate food systems, including nutrition and health, rights and influence, security, sustainability, equality, and social inclusion. The authors also point out that the primary international institutions in the food value chain are not only the Food and Agriculture Organization and World Health Organization but also United Nations Industrial Development Organization, International Labour Organization, and World Trade Organization. The emerging trends in the food system are features of the {\dq}new economy.{\dq} This term describes the outcome of the transition from production- and manufacturing-based economy to a service-based or post-industrial economy at the end of the twentieth century. The traditional production factors such as cheap labor, land, and raw materials lose their importance in generating profits and competitiveness. The key is understanding of food consumer demand, knowledge of food industry and agriculture employees based on creativity, and flexibility of processes of production.

The chapter aims to introduce an integrated approach to concepts of (1) smart cities and (2) age-friendly cities and communities. Although these ideas are widely promoted by the European Union and the World Health Organisation, they are perceived as separate. Meanwhile, these concepts are closely intermingled in theory and practise concerning the promotion of healthy and active ageing, a universal design, usability and accessibility of age-friendly environments, reducing of the digital divide and robotic divide, and reducing of older adults' social isolation. The conclusion underlines the need for participatory creation of ambient assisted living (AAL) technologies and applications with older adults and the need for advocacy to promote AAL in the context of the silver economy especially in the Central and Eastern Europe.
