Il presente saggio offre un inquadramento degli aspetti storico-diplomatici del trattato del 29ottobre 1840, rievocando l'interesse della corte di Torino per il riconoscimento della Repubblica Orientale dell'Uruguay e mostrando quale atmosfera di reciproca comprensione accompagnasse la stipulazione dell'accordo. Seguirà un'analisi di dettaglio del contenuto, dal notevole significato commerciale, diplomatico-consolare ed altresì politico-programmatico: viatico per un successivo consolidamento di rapporti di solida amicizia. ; This essay offers a framework of historical-diplomatic aspects of the treaty signed on the 29th October 1840. It recalls how interested the Court of Turin was in recognizing the Uruguayan Republic, showing the cordiality of the atmosphere between the two parts. A following detailed analysis of the contents will underline the remarkable significance of the agreement both from a diplomatic-commercial and political point of view: a milestone for a long-run path of stable and valuable friendship.

The last twenty-five years of relations between Turkey and Israel are the most intense years of their diplomatic relations. From the 90s, when the two Countries had have good relations, to the deep crisis of 2010, the role of the two Countries in the region has radically changed for both the international context and the changes of governments in both Countries. This essay will take into account both the crucial historical moments of relations between the two Countries and the elements of theory of international relations that have fostered these steps and changes. Finally, there will be a brief comments about the latest upheavals (especially in Turkey but also in United States) and about prospects that could entail in relations with Israel. The energy issue is purposely neglected to focus on the political-economic one.

This article deals with some aspects of political–diplomatic relations between Italy and Latin America in the period between the immediate post–World War II period and the mid–1950s. This is a period not yet investigated by historiography, except for some works by Aldo Albónico, based on a first analysis of the Italian diplomatic documentation – which date back to the end of the 1980s – and the subsequent ones by Ludovico Incisa di Camerana. The article is based, as well as on the existing literature, on the collection of Italian diplomatic documents, to date until June 30, 1952, and, as regards the Chilean case, on the documents available at the Historical–Diplomatic Archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Historical studies on Angl o-Italian diplomatic relations between the end of WWII and the early Fifties have often stressed two contradictory el ements: the alleged good will to overcome the heavy legacy left by Italian fascism and the war, and th e political and psychologica l qualms that emerged whenever the dialogue between Rome and London was re sumed. Largely based on primary sources, this essay brings new elements to the knowledge of the evolution of bilateral relations in the midst of the dynastic succession that led Elizabeth II to the throne of Saint James.

In the aftermath of Japan's closing edicts of the 1640s, the curious episode of the mission of the Dutch agent Andries Frisius to the court of Iemitsu in 1650 was an emblematic case of the new course of the diplomatic relations established by the Tokugawa government with Europeans. Local authorities' occasional contacts with the Dutch still revealed uncertainty in diplomatic and commercial exchanges based on rules set by the central government, not yet fully implemented at the local level. Besides the embarrassment in developing official relations, the few European agents admitted in the archipelago had to satisfy the numerous requests from the authorities, as evidenced by the singular case of Frisius. Agents' commitments also included the presentation of official reports, the so-called fūsetsugaki, the news on overseas affairs and European historical events that envoys of the Dutch East India Company were asked to present regularly to the shogunal authorities in Edo. Although there were never any practical political or commercial consequences, the analysis of the Medicis' 'Persian diplomacy' may still reveal something about diplomacy in the early modern period, its practices and, more generally, how Europe and Persia 'looked at' and related to each other. The documentation produced by the grand ducal secretariat in the course of more than a century of roughly regular interaction is incredibly rich and varied and even if some of it is already known, a very large part of it remains unexploited.The main aim of this thesis is to reconstruct the genesis and development of diplomatic relations between Tuscany and Persia in the seventeenth century through careful and scrupulous archive research and the continuous comparison of manuscript and printed sources with recent studies. The aim is to frame these relations within a broader Mediterranean and global context in which knowledge, the ability to gather information and, to a certain extent, the ambition to be able to project oneself beyond one's own 'local' dimension, also played an important role. In addition to an in-depth analysis of Medici-Safavid diplomacy in the strict sense, the research also aims to provide a new 'case study' of modern diplomacy, its practices and networks.
