The starting point of this thesis was that diplomats abroad must interact effectively with people who have different values, behavioural norms and ways of perceiving reality, otherwise their contact with the culture and the people from the new culture will be a negative and inefficient one. My basic idea was that in the case of diplomacy we can speak about an overlap with diplomats belonging to two cultures. The most international management literature frames intercultural differences as areas of conflict. Cultural misunderstandings are often experienced as conflicts, and the conflicts are seen as threats. In diplomatic relations, threats and conflicts can lead to war. Since cultural misunderstandings and conflicts are considered as problems to be avoided, if diplomats abroad have the necessary skills and knowledge their task will be much easier. I explore the concept of intercultural communication competence in diplomacy. My intention is to prove that the communication process in diplomacy is of a special nature and a lot of its aspects are unique in this field, precisely because they are international and a generally valid solution cannot be found. This field was not of so much interest and this can partially explain the many cases of miscommunication, misunderstanding and misperception in diplomacy. The consequences could be major for the diplomat as person and for the country he represents. One of my goals is to explain what the communication problems in diplomacy and negotiations are when people with different cultural backgrounds encounter each other. The structure of the thesis includes introduction, methodology, six chapters, conclusions, bibliography, transcript of the 26 interviews and annexes. Chapter 1 gives the definition and etymology of the word 'diplomacy' and presents briefly the history of diplomacy (based on Nicolson - 1954, Callieres - 1919, Martens - 1832, 1851). Since Sebastian Kurz was elected Chancellor in 2017, Austrian internal politics has changed significantly, and there is a visible rapprochement with several countries in the region, including Hungary. There is a consensus between Hungary and Austria on many issues, including the defense of Christian culture, the European way of life, and the protection of society. Both countries are urging the establishment of a common European military force and the strengthening of border guards. Austria is Hungary's second most important trading partner in terms of total trade volume, and Austria is one of the largest investors in Hungary today. Considering these points, it is worth examining how the system of diplomatic relations between the two countries has developed in recent years.

In the beginning of our study concerning the relations of Cuba and the United States, let us first take a brief review of the relations of Spain and the United States. Spain had acquired a great amount of territory in the Western Continent; at least one half of this continent was owned by her. In 1800 she ceded Louisiana to France. This was the first of her losses, the rest follow, on after another until no Spanish possessions remained in the new World except Cuba and Porto Rico. It was Cuba which caused the years of trouble between Spain and the United States. During these years Spain was constantly growing weaker while the United States was increasing in strength and becoming one of the greatest nations in the world. Three times before the war of 1898 Spain and the United States were at swords points: (1) during Jefferson's administration, (2) in 1854, when the Black Warriors was fired upon and (3) in 1873 when Virginians was captured and some on board were executed. Cuba, situated as it is at the mouth of the gulf, seemed destined to fall into the hands of the United States. If this island were held by an enemy our western commerce could easily be blockaded. Cuba had patiently borne the injustices Spain had inflicted upon it during the years of Spanish Government. They had been very severely oppressed and taxed. In 1812 a somewhat consistent constitution was originated for Cuba but it was never put into effect.

Because it assists in the accumulation of capital and the expansion of industrial capacity of the host countries. Diplomacy, like so many other aspects of government, is impacted by the fundamental developments of the twenty-first century. Shocks to the global system, the change in internet-based information dissemination, and liberal regimes' legitimacy issues all appear to need a fundamental re-orientation of foreign affairs instruments. The author through this paper has tried to examine the changes that could be brough in the diplomacy between countries so that a greater cross-border investment could take place and this has been explored by understanding how diplomacy has changed in the 21st century, what types and tactics are being used today by countries to safeguard themselves on one hand while increase investment on the other and the method of research used in this paper is qualitative in nature and basically a review of all the research done while later suggesting the ways to mould the diplomacy today.

ABSTRACT: The stage of the relations between Romania and Turkey, at the political-diplomatic level, has seen an ascending development as a result of the high level visits, thus laying the foundations of the formation of friendship groups within the two parliaments, contact sand mutual visits at the level of the ministers, of municipalities. There was, however, a moment of stagnation, which was not a particular feature but a general feature that manifested itself both in Turkey's external relations and in domestic political life, with the formation of the Naim Talu government, a transition al government. It could engage in large-scale external relation sanctions. The Turkish press as well as the diplomatic environment expressed interest in learning about the concrete problems, addressing Romanian diplomats in Ankara, the Czechoslovak ambassador, the adviser of the U.S. Embassy, the ambassadors of Bulgaria and Greece and one of the advisers of the R.F. Artykuł dotyczy geokulturowych uwarunkowań dyplomatycznych relacji polsko-izraelskich ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem dynamiki wydarzeń z ostatnich lat. Autor zwraca uwagę, że dyplomacja kulturalna i historyczna stanowi fundamentalny wektor polsko-izraelskich działań dyplomatycznych, co wynika z tych szczególnych uwarunkowań. Zarazem ten obszar dyplomacji jest niezwykle niestabilny, podatny na różne wahania, zależny od wydarzeń i okoliczności zewnętrznych. ; The article deals with the geocultural conditions of diplomatic relations between Poland and Israel, with particular emphasis on the events in recent years. The author points out that cultural and historical diplomacy is a fundamental vector of Polish-Israeli diplomatic activities which results from these special conditions. At the same time, this area of diplomacy is extremely unstable, susceptible to various fluctuations, depending on external events and circumstances.

This study investigates the extent to which diplomatic relations affected merger and acquisition (M&A) activities in the European Union during the years 2001- 2019. Implementing a gravity model, we find a U-inverted relationship between diplomatic distance and M&A activities: (i) a worsening in diplomatic relations fosters M&As, but beyond a certain level (ii) an increase in diplomatic distance slows down M&A flows. While (ii) is in line with the dominant evidence found in the literature on political relations and foreign direct investments, (i) suggests that cross-border acquisitions, as supported by the internalisation theory, are a way for the investing firm to mitigate weak diplomatic relations' related issues, such as access to host markets' information and technology. These findings are confirmed especially when foreign investors target technology-intensive firms, as well as in the most recent years.

A summary of the revolutions of 1910 and 1913 which respectively removed Porfirio Diaz and Francisco Madero from the presidency of Mexico and the implication of Ambassador Henry Lane Wilson comprise the introductory chapter. A detailed analysis was made of the diplomacy of President Woodrow Wilson as it affected the Provisional Presidency of Victoriano Huerta as well as the personalities in Wilson's cabinet, the American State Department, and Mexican officialdom. It is the contention of the writer that a major departure occurred in American traditional policy of recognition, which was formerly based on a nation's ability to maintain law, order, and stability, but under President Wilson shifted to constitutional legitimacy. The motives and circumstances that led to the occupation of Vera Cruz by United States Marines and the mediatory conference at Niagara, Canada, was also given careful study. Due to the reluctance on the part of Mexican sources of information in disseminating materials pertinent to the topic of this thesis, research was confined to United States documents and sources written in English. Primary sources were: Papers Relating to the Foreign Relations of the United States, Congressional Record, The New York Times, and various monographic works. Until the private papers of Ambassador Wilson are released, the writer feels that a complete understanding of American diplomacy can not be obtained by the student of this period.

Egypt and Hungary have a long common historical past, which is characterized by fruitful diplomatic and political cooperation. The twenty years between 1919 and 1939 included a significant, active, and changeable period in the history of diplomatic and political relation between Hungary and Egypt according to the archive material, other sources and articles of the Egyptian press. The chronological frame of this research has a precise starting-, and end-point. The plan of the establishment of a Hungarian Consulate in Cairo on 10 January 1924 can be regarded as the beginning. The final event was on 30 April 1939 when Miklós Horthy, the son of the regent of Hungary, visited Egypt again to negotiate and discuss with Egyptian officials. The period between 1919 and 1939 has been studied on the basis of the sources of the archive of the Egyptian Foreign Ministry and the contemporary Arabic, English and French press in Egypt.

When we talk about political and diplomatic relations between Albania and Greece in the period 1920-1930, always we try to refer to state relations and political actors of both countries. For this period we can explain that the relations between the two countries have not been good, but are often characterized by tension, almost by the Greek state interference in the internal affairs of Albania. At the same time this troubled situation is characterized by tense political and diplomatic relations, further from the repressive policies pursued by Athens over Albanian Cham population, living in Northern Greece, otherwise called Northern Epirus. These relationships will draw the tense and characterizes politics and diplomacy of the two countries for almost two decades. Albania and Greece politicians and political leaders time after time tried to stabilize the situation. But Greece, which felt superior because of alliances that she had with the Great Powers, put conditions in order to stabilize the relations between two countries. While the Albanian state without any help from the Great Powers, try to protect his rights in relation to Greece, and in relation to the Greek minority living in Albania, providing them all possible rights stemming from the agreement that Albanian state had signed in 1921.

At the end of 2014, the United States, under the leadership of President Barack Obama, decided to improve relations with Cuba. The relationship between the two countries has a long history. After 53 years of severing diplomatic ties with Cuba, America finally made a change through the policy of diplomatic relations improvement that began in 2015. This study analyzes the background that encourages the restoration of political ties between the United States and Cuba, examining the implementation of foreign policy forms between the two countries As a result of the restoration of diplomatic relations between the United States and Cuba through diplomatic channels. This research uses foreign policy theory and the theory of international pathways. The research method used is qualitative research with a secondary data source, with a data collection technique through a literature study. The study found that in the policy of restoring the diplomatic relations between the United States and Cuba happened for three main reasons, the first one. President Obama realized that US sanctions to Cuba is a policy that is not successful; the United States no longer wants to lose the market, which was very promising in Cuba. And also, the United States has a ton amount of pressure internationally and domestically, asking them to recover their relations with Cuba. These reasons ultimately implemented through diplomatic channels by both countries. They have implications such as increased bilateral visits, increased investment, and business as well as cultural exchange through communities and students.
