"In diesem Beitrag stellen wir implizite Annahmen in der Literatur in Frage und untersuchen das Thema der beruflichen Geschlechtertrennung aus geografischer Perspektive. Insbesondere zeigen und erklären wir Schwankungen bei den Geschlechteranteilen in verschiedenen Berufen, das Ausmaß der Ungleichheit bei den beruflichen Geschlechteranteilen sowie die Auswirkung einer beruflichen Feminisierung auf Gehälter in den lokalen Arbeitsmärkten von England und Wales. Aus den Ergebnissen geht hervor, dass eine berufliche Geschlechtertrennung und ihre Folgen vom lokalen Kontext abhängen, dass Politiken zur Verwirklichung einer Gleichstellung am Arbeitsplatz über die kommunalen Behörden umgesetzt werden sollten und dass zur systematischen Untersuchung der vielfachen Schnittstellen zwischen dem geografischen Raum und der Gleichstellung am Arbeitsplatz weitere Forschungsarbeit erforderlich ist." This article identifies new arrangements between the state and non-state actors in the public sector, one that extends current understandings of education privatisation, the transformation of public services 'by substitution' and, specifically theories of the 'shadow state'. Drawing on data from the Political Economy of Teacher Education (PETE) project, the paper's context is the current situation of post-qualification teacher development in England and its point of departure the Teaching and Leadership Innovation Fund (TLIF) initiative, in the wider context of Conservative political interests in promoting 'social mobility' through enhancing 'teacher quality'. Through a political economy analysis of public records, course information, Freedom of Information (FOI) requests and interviews, the paper offers an emerging typology of enterprises to describe the organisations that won TLIF funding to provide Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for teachers in designated 'Opportunity Areas'. Further, the paper extends available theorisations of the shadow state by identifying three kinds of shadow state structure – autonomous, intermediate and co-created – in relation to CPD provision under TLIF. This provisional identification is offered for critical examination beyond the immediate context of English CPD policy. The paper argues that these different relations of power and interdependence represent a new political economy of teacher development in England.
International audience ; Chivalry's origins and decline are the subject of a number of historiographical controversies in England over a span of more than a century. This prompts to a much more general question of the relevance of historical periodizations. But these controversies are intimately linked to the problems of the definition of this notion. This paper studies these debates and intends to highlights that the chivalry was not only a military or aristocratic code, not was it an ideology, but that it constitutes, more widely, a cultural phenomenon on the 'longue durée', dynamic and not static. This is why it is so difficult to cut it in periods with some certainty. ; Les origines et le déclin de la chevalerie, font l'objet de nombreuses controverses historiographiques en Angleterre depuis plus d'un siècle, ce qui soulève la question beaucoup plus générale de la pertinence des périodisations historiques. Mais ces controverses sont intimement liées aux problèmes de définition de cette notion. Cet article étudie ces débats, en soulignant que la chevalerie n'est pas seulement un code militaire ou aristocratique, ni même une « idéologie » (avec tous les guillemets d'usage), mais qu'elle constitue, de manière beaucoup plus large, un phénomène culturel sur la longue durée, dynamique et non figé. C'est pourquoi elle est si difficile à périodiser avec certitude.
