This is an early manuscript copy of an agreement between the Town of East Hampton and the Sachem of the Montaukett Indians was signed by Lion Gardiner, Jeremiah Conkling, Wyandanch, and three other Montaukett Indians. The Montaukett signers were Sasugatarros, Magopirus, and Poguaton. The land in this agreement runs from "the South Brook near Georgica to the Harbour on the North Side." Within this area, the Montauketts agree to give the English settlers certain rights and privileges, and they agree to not engage in certain behaviors. Similarly, the English settlers acknowledge that the Montauketts will have certain rights in and around this area.
