Building on earlier arguments, I propose a civic, publicly responsable [auto] ethnography that addresses the central issues of self, race, gender, class, society, and democracy. I begin with pedagogies of hope and the sociological and ethnographic imaginations. I turn then to the ethnographer and cultural studies, reviewing several models of critical ethnography. I next examine critical performance pedagogy, politics, and critical race theory, and conclude with a brief discussion of the practices of a performative cultural politics. The phenomenon of prostitution is visible in the media sphere and in public debate, however it does not have a sufficient empirical foundation to support our knowledge of the matter. Figures are thrown, forecasts are ventured, something like this could be said: "ideology is left over, ethnography is lacking". Faced with these epistemological distortions, ethnography stands as a fruitful and ideal methodological tool to address social reality in highly stigmatized and politicized contexts such as prostitution. To show this, I will use some ethnographic studies as well as my experience of research and use of the biographical method in this field during the last two decades.
From our ethnographic experience in chats, for the study 'Entre Dones a la Xarxa: Un estudi sobre les interaccions socials entre dones en espais de conversa electronics,' we try to question those methodological approaches to the virtual areas that adapt directly the ethnographic method, which until now has been used in the offline scope: What is new in the ethnographic works online? Is still the participant observation & the semi-structured interview useful for the new virtual scope? Which are their limits & possibilities? During our work of participant observation in chats we have wanted to experiment with the ethnographic method in order to try to respond to all these questions.
The text reviews the author's extensive and productive career in the difficult craft of political ethnography. Through a reflective account of his own ethnographic experience, he highlights the importance and complexity of the craft; and therefore refers us to the findings, obstacles, problems, limitations and projections of ethnographic practice in politics. The document is divided into five sections, each corresponding to the research topics addressed by the author's ethnographic career. These review the relation and usefulness of political ethnography in the study of clientele networks, collective action, and in the study of the gray area of politics, environmental suffering, and the topic of waiting as an expression of the relations of social domination. The document closes with an invitation and a warning in regard to the craft of ethnography.
¿How can we defend today that ethnography's main task is to get closer to reality? ¿How can a postructuralist conscience be combined with an attempt to describe and explain a world "out there"? ¿What is the significance of an anthropology that does not aspire to transform reality? These are some of the questions addressed in this article, drawing on the naturalism-realism debate proposed by manuel delgado (2003) in this journal. A return to a "primitive naturalism" is countered with a "realist" ethnography: flatter (which recognizes each object's singularity and is interested in its relations) and more opaque (which does not aspire to transparency and recognizes texts as mediation).
This article presents some propositional level elements for ethnographic research aimed at peace studies, multiculturalism, conflict and democracy, after considering the need to decolonize the thinking and practice of the method. I propose that this ethnography —in our Latin American environment— will be critical, research coproduction, which contribute to the knowledge of our sociocultural realities.
; The Mayagna culture, made up of four ethnolinguistic groups (Panamahka, Tuahka, Yusku and Ulwa, has been shaped by rivers, mountains and jungle lowlands, developing into a simple life of hunters and gatherers. In nine Mayagnan indigenous territories, eight in the North Caribbean Autonomous Region and one in the South Caribbean Autonomous Region, there are 78 total Suma-Mayagna communities, the majority of which sit on the banks of the greatest rivers of the Caribbean Coast. Communities and territories are organized politically and administratively by the Government of the Suma-Mayagna Nation. The Mayagna culture is examined through an ethnographical photographic album, in order to provide a close glimpse of the daily life of this Nicaraguan indigenous people.
Thinking, analyzing and reconstructing the modes of the so-called dominant masculinity in sports clubs requires a reflexive exercise. Primarily masculine spaces, with certain characteristics, peculiarities, ways of acting, living and thinking about relationships as aspects of a hegemonic identity, with its permissions and prohibitions. Inquiring about the various identities promotes the problematization of the privileges that arise from the performativity of a dominant masculinity. In this sense, I present ethnography as a political act and as a fundamental position in my research process, and with this I propose a theoretical perspective that allows me to know and problematize my possibilities as an ethnographer and the limits of masculinity. To do this, I collect data from the ethnographic fieldwork of my master's thesis aimed at analyzing the identity construction processes of individuals who are part of the Club Colón de San Carlos in relation to soccer and murga practices. Where in my bodily characteristics, of identity and dominant recognition, I believe a constant exercise of estrangement and reflexivity that allows an adequate distance with the object of study is opportune.
In these pages I intend to connect the recent debates on secularism and a certain anthropology of religion/spirituality involved in an exercise of radical participation, symmetry and ontological recognition of the objects it studies. Detranscendentalising religion is effective as far as the effects of this intellectual operation cancel out the agency and methodological reality of the beings, energies and forces with which subjects deal. To disguise or omit the most exceptional or incommunicable aspects of ethnographic experience and field notes, diluting them in a scientifically-acceptable discourse —a common procedure according to Favret-Saada— is all the more disturbing when one does not share the premise according to which epistemes, religious narratives and practices belong to the universe of the irrational, the imaginary, the unobservable, when they arise from an error of perception or an intellectual delusion, which turns truth into a knowledge independent of the statements of the natives. This article, which deals with all of this and is eminently theoretical, would be inconceivable without years of fieldwork dedicated to the methodological, epistemological and ontological issues involved in the understanding of religions/spiritualities, understood as politics, but also as an exceptional form of perceptual and sensory alterity.

COVID-19, a new virus of the Coronaviridae family that causes atypical pneumonia, appeared suddenly, generating a global crisis, with serious effects on economies and health systems. In addition to negative effects at the psychosocial level that in many countries are presented as mental health effects expressed in fear, stress, frustration, anxiety, anguish and suffering. In Ecuador, the government, using the media, has romanticized health workers in Ecuador, placing them at the level of heroes who face the first line of the pandemic, however, the reality is different, reflected in precarious jobs, little protection and biosecurity, adding with social stigmatization, fear and guilt of being carriers of the virus and contaminating their families. While calling them heroes, they are laying off hundreds due to cuts demanded by the International Monetary Fund (IMF). This article presents ethnographic accounts that narrate the experiences of human beings strongly marked by death, by the feeling of loss such as health workers, who have had to reorganize their lives and senses about terrible experiences of impotence and guilt, when their His work, experience and all his training were not enough to save lives.
