All theoretical papers modelling agri-environmental auctions neglect the issue of farm size by assuming that farmers bid only for one hectare. We analyse the theoretical outcomes of an agri-environmental auction when farmers bid on the proportion of the farm area they wish to put under contract and on the average compensatory payment. We simulate the effect of the compliance cost structure on auction performance. We also show that imposing stricter requirements in terms of environmental efforts per ha can either lead farmers to increase the proportion of their farmland under contract or to decrease it. Numerical simulations based on a French case study illustrate how various rules concerning the maximum allowed payment per farm affect the distribution of net profits to farmers.

In modern society, people face expedited information communication, fast-paced life, and high-pressure work. People are eager for the natural environment of relaxation. The government in Taiwan has paid special attention to the development of leisure agriculture. Events that incorporate farm landscape and agriculture have been held, and rural living has been promoted. Through public engagement and experience, it is expected that agriculture can be promoted into a leisure industry with unique recreational features, in order to bring in additional incomes for the farmers, drive the regional economic development, elevate the living standards of the farmers, promote employment, protect and develop rural culture, and realize ecological conservation.This paper explores the factors for brand building in leisure agricultural area, and treats Chiang Ma Yuan Recreational Farm Area in Dahu Township, Miaoli County, as the target. Literature review was first conducted to develop the semi-open questionnaire. Then modified Delphi method was adopted for expert interviews, in order to collect expert consensus, and identify the constructs and elements for the brands in hierarchal analysis. The results were used to analyze the constructs and elements of brand building in Chiang Ma Yuan Farm Area, and suggest its future development direction.Â

In this study we analyzed the relationship between social capital and future cooperation intention of owners of recreational farm areas in Taiwan, and explored whether cooperative performance plays a role as a mediating factor between social capital and future cooperation intention.
We employed structural equation modeling for the research framework, and LISREL was used to analyze the model. The findings indicate that social capital is a crucial factor that affects future cooperation intention, and cooperative performance is a partial mediator between social capital and
future cooperation intention. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.

The purpose of the article is to find out which group of EU countires determined on the basis of the specific features of the area structure of their farms Poland belongs to. Two aspects of this structure were taken into account: the number of farms in particular size groups of farmland and the area of farmland they occupy. Poland's situation was also presented in the regional context, taking into consideration the variety of agricultural activity. The research was based on data obtained from Eurostat and Statistics Poland for the year 2016. The following groups of farm area were considered: farmland under 2 hectares, 2–5 hectares, 5–10 hectares, 10–20 hectares, 20–50 hectares and 50 hectares and larger. Based on the fuzzy classification method, EU countries were classified into 4 groups according to the area structure of their farms. The results of the research demonstrated that Poland belongs to a group of countries with a high level of fragmentation of farms, jointly with Croatia, Greece, Spain, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia and Italy. Only 4 countries have a more fragmented farm structure: Bulgaria, Cyprus, Romania and Hungary. As regards the proportion of the area of farmland concentrated in large farms, it is unfavourable in Poland, also when compared to new EU member states, such as the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Bulgaria. In Poland the largest farms, with an area of at least 50 hectares, account only for about 1/3 of the total farmland, which, except for Slovenia, is the lowest percentage in the entire EU.

Includes bibliography. ; This is an exploratory study which investigates changes introduced by management on farms in Elgin and explores the perceptions of some of those involved in the changes. The initiatives and activities of the Rural Foundation for Community Development (Rural Foundation) and its involvement in these changes forms a crucial part of the exploration. Three questions direct the study. 1. What are the changes that have been introduced? 2. Why were they introduced? 3. What is the social meaning of the changes? The study is based on a case study of four farms. Documentary material was collected from a variety of sources including the Rural Foundation, the South African Government, as well as other agencies operating in the field. Interviews with various actors were conducted, including management and a selection of workers on each of the four farms, Rural Foundation officials as well as other actors connected to the developments on the farms. The study is informed by historical materialist theory and draws from certain labour process theories. Important for the study was the discussion raised in these theories around the effect that workers' motivation has on their productivity. The study is located in the context of the national historical development of capitalist agriculture since the Second World War. More specifically it is situated locally in terms of changes that occurred on Elgin farms more generally prior to the 1980's as well as the present general circumstances in the area. Three fields of change are identified on the four farms: (i) training of workers, (ii) new incentives and pay structures, and (iii) community development. It is asserted that these changes are measures introduced by management in an attempt to, firstly, decrease production costs by employing greater numbers of women and migrant workers and paying them less. Secondly, they are aimed at increasing the productivity of workers through measures designed to improve the 'quality' and stability of workers and to develop a new authority structure on the farms. Four trends are thus identified as occurring on the farms: 1. Increasing use of women and migrant workers. 2. An improvement in workers' living conditions and standards. 3. An increasing emphasis on improving workers' productivity. 4. A shift in the emphasis on control towards developing workers' consent.

Technical issues regarding food security are often conceptualized with inappropriate policies. Food security is a fundamental issue not only nationally but also internationally. The purpose of this study is to channel the concept of farmer schools to farmers in Indonesia's national food storage area as an effort to maintain food supplies relates to food security. This study uses a qualitative method. The study explains the concept of farmer schools and educating farmers on argriculture to maintain their production and guided by agriculture experts as an effort to maintain the stability of Indonesia's food security, especially in the national food storage area. Data analysis techniques uses the study of food security and farmers empowerment and agricultural scholars by Indonesia government. Increasing production and adequate quality of food production will protect Indonesia from the food crisis and as solutions to national food security. Alongside this effort, farmers can produce good quality food sources that are able to solve the problems of food security and the quality of food production.
