THE LITERARY RECEPTION OF POST-TOTALITARIAN WARS: UKRAINIAN AND BALKAN CONTEXTS ; LITERACKA RECEPCJA WOJEN POSTTOTALITARNYCH: KONTEKSTY UKRAIŃSKI I BAŁKAŃSKI ;
The author of the article analyses how literary text can be a cultural instrument for overcoming the traumatic experience of war. Ongoing events in the Donbass prove that manipulating with the historical consciousness of the inhabitants of this region of Ukraine and important events from the past have become the reasons for a new military implosion between the colonized and colonizer. Literary texts published in the last few years not only reflect the Russian-Ukrainian war in eastern Ukraine but also shed light on the consequences of Soviet colonization, which played the main role in the process of mental separation of this region. In the context of post-communist society transformations, the Donbass war is similar to the military conflicts in Transnistria, Georgia and, above all, to the war in former Yugoslavia. Contemporary literary texts are the most accurate examples of it from the point of view of the traumatic experience of culture.

The article examines the role of the Bolshevik propaganda and agitation in the period of the Soviet power formation, methods and forms of work with the population of polyethnic Ukraine and technologies of mass consciousness manipulation. It is emphasized that the Ukrainian Revolution of 1917-1921 activated the national and socio-political life of the Poles and Jews in Ukraine, in particular in the Volyn province. But the civil war and the Bolshevik aggression led to the destruction of Ukraine's independence, the Sovietization of all spheres of life, in particular Polish and Jewish communities, began. Communist ideology equated national movements with nationalism, fought against them with all possible means. It is noted that the confrontation between the communist party leadership and the Polish and Jewish population was inevitable because the Bolsheviks tried to monopolize and control the ideological, political, spiritual and economic life of national communities. Some Poles and Jews supported the Bolshevik slogans and the policy of the Soviet power, but many of them were not able to compromise and adapt to the needs of a rigid communist ideology. It is highlighted that propaganda was supposed to interpret the Bolshevik ideological slogans and ideas, and campaigning to adjust the masses to decisive action. The complexity of the Bolshevik propaganda and agitation among the Poles and Jews was in the diversity of the social structure. The Soviet atheistic ideology as one of the Bolshevik activities among the Polish and Jewish population of Volhynia considered anti-religious propaganda and agitation, since Judaism and the Catholic Church had authority and great influence on everyday and social life.In an effort to favor the Polish and Jewish masses, the Bolsheviks supported national cultures, created a new system of education, stopped Jewish pogroms, made Poles and Jews legally equal to all Ukrainian citizens. But gradually Bolshevik propaganda and agitation, using various forms and methods of influence on Poles and Jews, reached the goal set by the authorities, turned citizens of the polyethnic region into the Soviet people. ; W artykule przedstawiono problem zorganizowanego przesiedlenia ludności polskiej Żytomierszczyzny do Polski w latach1944 r. – 1946. Wstawiono do obiegu naukowego nowe dokumenty, które zostały znalezione w Archiwach Państwowych regionu Żytomierskiego. W badaniu wskazano podstawę prawną repatriacji, zwłaszcza relokacji, opisano pracę specjalnej komisii w sprawie transferu Polaków i Żydów. COLLECTIVE AMNESIA: MECHANISMS OF MARGINALIZATION OF MEMORY ABOUT THE "OTHERS" IN UKRAINE ; AMNEZJA KOLEKTYWNA: MECHANIZMY MARGINALIZACJI PAMIĘCI ODNOŚNIE "OBCYCH" NA UKRAINIE ;
On the example of the Holocaust the author ascertains the reasons of the minimizing of the memory about the "others" in modern Ukraine. He argues that the exclusion of certain events in the collective memory is both at individual and collective levels. At the individual level this is reflected by the position of those who were directly involved in interethnic interaction in World War II, caused ethnically motivated violence or was its silent statistic. Informal memory at the individual level is also determined by the reluctance of offspring to give an objective assessment of the position of "their" in the Holocaust.Official collective memory is formed by Ukrainian State. Its political elite refused to identify the position of the state on the Holocaust. This is due to the complexity of Ukrainian-Jewish relations during the war. Displacement of the genocide of Jews to the margins of the collective memory of citizens of Ukraine is also caused by its restoration, which began in the second half of 1980th: the core of the collective memory in that times was the past of Ukrainians, while the stories, related to ethnic minorities, were at the margin. The marginalization of official memory about the "others" is alsosignificantly caused by the position of historians in Ukraine. Indeed, much of them (because of the difficulty of correctly interpreting of the relationships of Jews and Ukrainians in time of the Holocaust) refused to operate inconvenient to the titular nation scenes of the past. Consequently, there is a collective oblivion of "inconvenient" scenes of the past by "their".

THE PROCESS OF CREATING THE NAZI CAMP SYSTEM IN POLAND DURING THE SECOND WORLD WAR ; PROCES STWORZENIA NAZISTOWSKIEGO SYSTEMU OBOZÓW NA TERYTORIUM POLSKI PODCZAS II WOJNY ŚWIATOWEJ ;
This article analyzes the process of creating the German camp system in Poland. The Nazi racial politics towards the Jews promoted their isolation from the so-called "full part of society". For this purpose, two main mechanisms for their separation were created: concentration camps, some of which were transformed into "factories of death", and Jewish ghettos. The establishment of concentration camps in Poland was preceded by a long process of organizational and legal registration first in Germany itself, and later on the territories occupied by it. This process was accompanied by numerous Jewish pogroms and arrests, which was an integral part of the Nazi anti-Semitic policy. Concentration camps were carefully thought out and well-organized institutions with a refined mechanism of prisoners' maintenance, coercion and punishment. Different by their intended purpose were "death camps" that were not intended to hold prisoners, but to destroy them quickly and in large scale. Most of them were located on the territory of Poland, where the Jews from all over Europe were brought. These included Chelmno, Belzec, Sobibor, Treblinka, Auschwitz-Birkenau and Maydanek. It was observed in the article that German concentration camps were created to isolate, repress and destroy the undesirable elements of the regime. Despite the early formation of this system, its dissemination in the territories occupied by the Nazis, particularly in Poland, took place in 1938-1939s. At that time the German concentration camps turned into an instrument of ruthless anti-Semitic policy that became a classic genocide. Due to the fact that the concentration camps capacities did not allow to sufficiently fulfill their tasks, during 1939-1945s in Poland, new, so-called "death camps" were established. They were equipped with gas chambers and crematorium that carried out large-scale destruction of the Jews. ; W artykule przeanalizowano proces tworzenia niemieckiego systemu obozowego. Procesowi temu towarzyszyły liczne żydowskie pogromy i aresztowania przedstawicieli tej grupy etnicznej і stanowiły integralną część nazistowskiej polityki antysemickiej. Obozy koncentracyjne były dobrze przemyślanymi instytucjami o dobrze udokumentowanej technice przetrzymywania więźniów, zapewniające odpowiedni przymus i karę. Należały do nich Chełmno, Bełżec, Sobibór, Treblinka, Auschwitz-Birkenau i Maydanek. THE PROCESS OF CREATING THE NAZI CAMP SYSTEM IN POLAND DURING THE SECOND WORLD WAR ; PROCES STWORZENIA NAZISTOWSKIEGO SYSTEMU OBOZÓW NA TERYTORIUM POLSKI PODCZAS II WOJNY ŚWIATOWEJ ;
This article analyzes the process of creating the German camp system in Poland. The Nazi racial politics towards the Jews promoted their isolation from the so-called "full part of society". For this purpose, two main mechanisms for their separation were created: concentration camps, some of which were transformed into "factories of death", and Jewish ghettos. The establishment of concentration camps in Poland was preceded by a long process of organizational and legal registration first in Germany itself, and later on the territories occupied by it. This process was accompanied by numerous Jewish pogroms and arrests, which was an integral part of the Nazi anti-Semitic policy. Concentration camps were carefully thought out and well-organized institutions with a refined mechanism of prisoners' maintenance, coercion and punishment. Different by their intended purpose were "death camps" that were not intended to hold prisoners, but to destroy them quickly and in large scale. Most of them were located on the territory of Poland, where the Jews from all over Europe were brought. These included Chelmno, Belzec, Sobibor, Treblinka, Auschwitz-Birkenau and Maydanek. It was observed in the article that German concentration camps were created to isolate, repress and destroy the undesirable elements of the regime. Despite the early formation of this system, its dissemination in the territories occupied by the Nazis, particularly in Poland, took place in 1938-1939s. At that time the German concentration camps turned into an instrument of ruthless anti-Semitic policy that became a classic genocide. Due to the fact that the concentration camps capacities did not allow to sufficiently fulfill their tasks, during 1939-1945s in Poland, new, so-called "death camps" were established. They were equipped with gas chambers and crematorium that carried out large-scale destruction of the Jews. ; W artykule przeanalizowano proces tworzenia niemieckiego systemu obozowego. Procesowi temu towarzyszyły liczne żydowskie pogromy i aresztowania przedstawicieli tej grupy etnicznej і stanowiły integralną część nazistowskiej polityki antysemickiej. Obozy koncentracyjne były dobrze przemyślanymi instytucjami o dobrze udokumentowanej technice przetrzymywania więźniów, zapewniające odpowiedni przymus i karę. Należały do nich Chełmno, Bełżec, Sobibór, Treblinka, Auschwitz-Birkenau i Maydanek. Manuscript "Happy Belarusian Nobleman" XVII–XVIII Centuries from the Collection of Ivan Franko ; Rękopis "szczęśliwego białoruskiego szlachcica" XVII–XVIII wieku z kolekcji Iwana Franki ;
This article analyzes the memoirs of Toma Konstanty Dusiatsky-Rudomyna – the 17th/18th-century "Happy Belarusian Nobleman" – published by Ivan Franko. This brief manuscript is composed of various short stories, and contains elements of a diary, an autobiography, and a family chronicle. From the point of view of the history of everyday life and mentality, this text constitutes not only an interesting document of general historical significance but, above all, a glimpse into the private life of a Belarusian representative of the Baroque era. The author of the diary attempts to insert his own microhistory in the frame of the turbulent macrohistory of the Polish Commonwealth in the last three decades of the 17th century, as well as the early 18th century. The author projects his own biography onto a broad background of the political conditions of his era; his personal story, however, gets lost among the historical events that he describes. In terms of structure and composition, his biography appears slightly flawed. The memoirs of Dusiatsky-Rudomyna constitute an interesting source of not just historical facts as such, but also of their interpretation within various segments of society. The diary also contains details based on gossip and speculations that grew around famous figures contemporary to its author. The analysis allows for the reconstruction of the reality left unrecorded by official historical sources. The memoiristic sources, based on gossip, rumors and legends, offer a view into the everyday life and the social structures of the 17th–18th century. ; This article analyzes the memoirs of Toma Konstanty Dusiatsky-Rudomyna – the 17th/18th-century "Happy Belarusian Nobleman" – published by Ivan Franko.
