Anti-Deportation Campaigning in the West Midlands
In the context of continued disenfranchisement of black peoples in GB, the West Midlands Anti-Deportation Campaign (WMADC) was organized in 1988. Its origins, objectives, & activities are described along with two case studies. The WMADC has had to contend with a changing legal & administrative framework & the growth of European Union-wide institutions. Key features in the success of the WMADC are the strategic use of the media, trade union alliances, & individual empowerment through the use of a sustained political campaign raising public awareness. WMADC's success shows how sustained community commitment & energy can fight racist laws. M. Pflum
