The present study tends to focus on the intra religious dialogue of the participants. It will indicate that the problem of next‐life or life after death was not only one of the foci of dialogue, but also one of the key aspects of the transformation of faith caused by intra‐religious dialogue of the Chinese intellectuals at that time. ; During the late Ming period, under the influence of traditional Confucianism, the matters of life and death became a focus of debate. At that time, the escapist Ch'an Buddhism became an ethos, and interactions took place between Buddhism and Confucianism. When Catholicism was introduced into China, it offered a spiritual alternative to the Chinese intellectuals who cared about matters of life and death. In contrast to the relatively more speculative and mysterious Ch'an, many Chinese found Catholicism a more genuine, concrete and practical system of thought. ; With regard to the Buddhism during the Ming and Qing dynasties, an important trend of development was the combination between Ch'an and Pure Land Buddhism, particularly the gradual integration between the Amitabha Pure Land and the Heart‐Only Pure Land. 早於1857年,英軍就已招募華人入伍擔任後勤工作。19世紀末,香港陸續出現了華人水兵、水雷砲兵與勞工隊,其角色已有不同。二戰時,華籍英兵廣泛參與,除了為人熟知的英軍服務團外,還有香港保衛戰中的砲兵、工兵、華人軍團、防衛軍,以及緬甸戰場的特種部隊香港志願連等。戰後,華籍英兵仍一直協助香港防務。直到1997年,其身份才隨殖民地時代的結束而成為歷史印記。縱使華籍英兵已隨香港主權移交而淡出歷史,但過去一百多年的從軍歷程中,確確實實有一幫人爲了保衛香港乃至舊時中國而做出了貢獻。儘管卸下軍裝,抹去編號,華籍英兵的身份隨風而去,但隱退的只是曾經的歷史,其精神應當為人所銘記。正如一句軍謠所說:「老兵不死,他們只是悄然而去。」(Old soldiers never die, they just fade away.)華洋軍人一百多年來的合作,是香港「華洋雜處」歷史中一個獨特的寫照。本書不只是為重新發現「本土軍人」,回顧這段被人遺忘的香港歷史,更希望從華籍英兵的角度,審視英國殖民者與香港華人的關係。

Due to geopolitical structure of the Cold War, unlike other East Asian countries, before 1980s China had developed its independent computer industry for more than 30 years. This development was not just under the rubric of techno-nationalism, which mainly helps to fulfill military and national defense aims, but also embedded into proletariat political debates. Maoist China developed a dialectical approach to technology, in which the most powerful productive power is the revolutionary proletariat class per se, not the machine or technology. Members of utopian communities are engaged in transformation projects and have chosen their utopian community as a strategic place from where to make a better world. Three communities are presented in ethnographic detail: 1. Life Chanyuan in China, which has attempted to promote free-love and communism as a short-cut to heaven but was finally closed down by the state, 2. Christiania in Denmark, a colorful political community standing for consensus democracy, the fight for freedom and urban space for all, a massive market for hashish, and a counter-cultural entertainment experience for visitors, and 3. Damanhur, an Italian esoteric community, whose members see themselves as warriors on a mission to rescue humankind. Further analysis shows that all these utopian communities act as distorted mirrors of their societies by addressing their societies' unresolved value contests. They are not just fictional fantasies of their founders. Intentional communities with utopian aspirations are presented as a regular social phenomenon related to social innovation and change and are shown to engage in historically specific conversation with their societies. 本文通过比较的视角来探索中共政权对中国天主教会包括官方与地下教会的特殊控制及其原因。自中共建国后,对比与其同宗同源,同为近代外来宗教的基督新教,中国天主教会长期以来受到中共严厉的控制。同时,近三十年来,基督新教在中国发展迅猛,成为当代中国发展最快的宗教,而在晚清和国民党政权下,基督新教在中国的发展一直远远落后于天主教。本文试图对这两个特殊现象进行研究。 ; 对于中共的严厉控制,学界的普遍观点是将其归结为天主教会强大的外国背景和与梵蒂冈的关系; 而近三十年来基督新教在华迅猛发展的原因被认为是它改良的教义和积极的传教模式。然而,基督新教同样具有强大的外国背景,它改良的教义和传教模式自晚清起在中国并没有本质改变,为何只在中共政权下得到迅速发展?本文试图通过对比天主教与基督新教在教义与组织结构、在华传播模式与发展速度、在华对政治的参与等方面的差异,以及天主教会在中国与中共政权在意识形态与组织结构上的异同,来探索中共对天主教会的特殊对待是否存在更深层次的原因,并探讨两者之间是否存在不可调和的矛盾。 ; 笔者认为,作为一个意识形态与组织高度合一的政权,中共害怕任何有严密统一全国性组织的宗教,不管它是否有外国背景。而作为有全国性统一严密组织的宗教组织,天主教会在中国之所以没有像"一贯道"和"法轮功"一样被中共消灭掉,是因为其与梵蒂冈的关系。作为"国际性合法宗教",天主教得以在中国生存。与基督新教相比,天主教会在中国,作为一种保守的,不倾向于革命或改良的宗教组织,在主观上从未试图挑战政权,但是其政教合一的严密组织以及建立在儒家伦理和宗族(家族)基础上的稳定的网络结构,在客观上构成对中共政权的有力竞争与潜在威胁,因此受到中共严密控制。中共利用"自选自圣"的策略,保持天主教会在中国的分裂, 从而达到"分而治之"的目的。同时,中共保持天主教地下教会在中国有限度的存在,以维持其对中国天主教会的有效控制。 ; My research focuses on church-state relations in contemporary China, to explore whether or not the Catholic Church in China constitutes a threat to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) regime. I am undertaking a comparative study of the CCP's religious control over the Catholic and Protestant churches in mainland China through the approach of state-society relations, as well as a macroscopic view of political science with quantitative and qualitative analysis. ; As they are both foreign-originated parts of Christianity, the Catholic Church has been subjected to much stricter controls from the mainland CCP since 1949 than the Protestant Churches. Furthermore, the Protestant churches have been the fastest growing religion in China in past three decades, but it had once grown relatively very slowly under late Qing and the KMT regimes, compared with the Catholicism. Erdbeben können bis heute nicht exakt vorhergesagt werden und treffen moderne Gesellschaften genauso unerwartet wie historische Zivilisationen. Sie stellen deshalb eine besondere Herausforderung für jede betroffene Gesellschaft dar. Zur Wiederherstellung der Normalität müssen die Erdstöße und ihre sozialen, wirtschaflichen und politischen Folgen mental und praktisch bewältigt werden. Die dazu ergriffenen Strategien unterschieden sich in verschiedenen Kulturkreisen und verschiedenen Epochen jedoch zum Teil erheblich voneinander. Die Dissertation untersucht mittels einer historischen Diskursanalyse die in griechischen, lateinischen und frühchinesischen Quellen aufgezeichneten Wahrnehmungen, Interpretationen und praktischen Maßnahmen zur Bewältigung von Erdbeben im antiken Mittelmeerraum und im frühen China. That is why, just like in the distant past, earthquakes present a special challenge for any society that is struck by them. In order to return to normality, it is necessary to develop mental and practical ways of coping with the events and their effects. It can be observed that these strategies differ substantially between different cultures and different historical periods. This dissertation investigates the perceptions and interpretations of, as well as the practical measures of coping with earthquakes that are recorded in Greek, Latin and early Chinese sources by using the method of historical discourse analysis. 作為古代東亞文化圈其中一部最具影響力的著作─《論語》,其在漢代的重要性一直長期被忽視。直至近年隨着學界的「翻案風」興起,對《論語》及《論語》學的研究才開始起步,但對唐以前的研究仍是寥寥無幾。此外,迄今為止這些研究仍離不開就《論語》的版本及詮釋本進行文本式研究,卻忽視了《論語》作為一部重要的儒家經典,對政治、社會等各方面的實際影響,本研究希望為此填補一點空白。本文認為《論語》所以沒有在西漢時期被列入成為《五經》之一,主因在於不同版本之間存有篇數差異及未經「孔子删削」而成為「權威定本」,是以不符合西漢「大一統」的政治需要。而且,在漢人眼裡「《論語》」的概念其實有「廣義」和「狹義」之分,這亦是前人研究時常常忽略的。至於,《論語》作為一種官學在兩漢之間如何形成及發展,以至最終成為部分知識人心目中的「第六經」亦是本文嘗試回答的問題。正如本文強調研究《論語》與社會及政治之間的關係,是以我們亦將探討西漢末至東漢時期的讖緯思潮如何導致孔子由一個人變成一個神的問題,因為《論語》作為孔子的言行記錄,其地位亦隨着孔子的地位改變而有所升降,而《七緯》中包含《論語緯》正是其中一種地位上升的表現。最後,有關《論語》在兩漢的政治影響力的問題,文中亦嘗試透過分析幾部政書及一些皇帝的詔書、朝議,指出朝臣及皇帝如何據《論》而言。當然,本研究所以以「五經以外」為題,並不是要否定《五經》在漢代的影響力,相反本研究嘗試從一個嶄新的角度分析兩漢的政治問題,從而希望能得出一些新的看法。 ; This research aims at studying the political authority of a long-neglected classic in Han Dynasty ─Lun Yuor the Analects of the Confucius. To date, the majority of scholars in the intellectual history field are operating on the assumption that, be-cause of the establishment of the "Experts of Five Classics (The Book of History, the Book of Odes, the Book of Change, the Book of Ritualsand the Spring and Autumn Annals)" in the central government academy (Tai Xue) and an government officer recruitment examination based on the "Five Classics," the intellectual history of Han was basically the history about the conservation, transmission and interpretation of "Five Classics." Most sholarship on the Analects either studies the textual genesis or the literary character of this source material about Confucius. As a result, not many scholars have studied how the Analects interact with Han political, social, and material contexts. ; But should we accept this common wisdom that the intellectual history of Han was just the history about the "Five Classics"? Or was there something beyond the "Five Classics" that was of equal importance? This could be answered by the fact that Cai Yong, a senior official and a Confucian scholar of the latter Han period, described the Analects as the "Sixth Classic" which was also a basic entry requirement for the newly appointed "Erudites" and academy students of the ...

有關臺灣邊地的拓墾研究,往往傾向研究土地拓墾的過程與組織。其基本論述架構是漢墾戶向官方申請墾照後,官府將界外未墾的荒埔提供給漢人開墾,漢人如何自力或與官方合作經營的結果。這類的研究論述忽略了原來早已存在的非法拓墾行動一直沒有消失。拓墾的申請與其說是新的程序,不如說是一種合法化的過程。也正是這樣一種認知脈絡下,內山設隘開墾的組織就不是表面上所認識的是一批為官方守邊,或是因生番擾害而防番的一支武力組織。十九世紀初隘的設防已逐漸成為一種界外開墾的管道,清代官方檔案也提醒我們注意這些界外開墾的墾戶不僅沒有防番,可能還一直與生番有貿易來往關係。換言之,這些以防番為名的墾戶其實是假借防番為名,掩護越界開墾之實,其向官府強調「生番擾害」的原因只是為自己取得更大界外土地開墾的正當性。 ; 道光年間以前這類非法開墾早已經存在,官方也早已發現界外越墾的問題,因此如何控制界外開墾乃成為官方邊地控制的一大課題。為了處理這些問題,官府不斷調整其政策與設定邊界,從乾隆到道光年以後,這些邊界的浮動,與其說是官方主動規畫計議的結果,不如說是漢人與熟番通過各種途徑越界開墾,建構地權主張、操弄挪移既有的邊界後,官府最終追認的結果。臺灣邊界的變動以及隘墾區的拓墾顯示清代官方政策的實踐是不斷在向地方社會的現實妥協中逐漸調整的,而地方社會也在官方政策的模糊空間中,藉由官方的名義與權威,尋求自己利益的伸張與庇護。這便是臺灣邊地所顯現的一幅國家與地方互動的景象。臺灣作為清王朝帝國的邊疆,其邊地社會的建構,除了幫助我們把握臺灣整體歷史進程的理解外,也提供我們從一側面掌握清帝國擴張的內在軌跡與多元族群統治下的彈性策略。 ; Existing studies on land cultivation in Taiwan's frontier have the focus on its process and organizations. The most popular narrative is that the Han Chinese cultivators were granted the right to the waste land from the government. What is missed out in the narrative is the fact that illegal cultivation that had lasted for so long had never disappeared; therefore the application for license was little more than a move of self-legitimating. In light of this, the organizations which set up forts and managed land cultivation should not be taken on surface value that their purpose was to safeguard the border for the government or defend against the harassment of the aborigines. The forts became a system of land cultivation beyond the border, and the official documents evidenced the fact that cultivators did not defend against the aborigines, rather, they kept doing businesses with them. In other words, the cultivators in the name of self-defending were actually to cover their illegal activities and to grabbing more land, and for that purpose they emphasized the "harassment of the raw aborigines". ; Illegal activities had already existed before mid-Qing.
