; Researching and analyzing the course of the Korean conflict, the thesis gives a comparative overview of the interests of the three main actors explaining their foreign policy strategies from the perspective of various theories of international relations. The main research question of this thesis is the following: How did geopolitical interests, including the political rivalries, between the USA, China and Russia develop in the course of the Korean conflict over 1945-2018?The methodology includes a systematic research and review of the relevant academic literature, and its analysis from an interdisciplinary perspective. The thesis is structured chronologically. Chapter one presents the Korean conflict from both historical and political perspectives, with the focus on the Korean War over 1950-1953, its key reasons and consequences, in order to understand its impact on subsequent international relations between the involved key actors. The developments that followed the Korean War until 1997 show, among others, how international relations have changed since the collapse of the Soviet Union. The second chapter deals with the developments until 2011, explaining the Sunshine Policy under Kim Dae-Jung, and showing how the inner-Korean relationship changed. Demonstrating that the changes led to the first inner-Korean summits, the thesis also analyzes the main actors' interests, drawing attention to the six-party talks on the North Korean nuclear programme, and their historical and political impact on the situation. Drawing attention to the change of government and first political steps of Kim Jong-Un in 2011-2017, the third chapter also analyzes the role and interests of the main actors in the current conflict. The thesis ends with a short conclusive summary and with an overview of the recent summit meeting between Kim Jong-Un and Donald Trump that took place on 12 June 2018 in Singapore, reflecting on the current situation and developments between North Korea and the US. ; Emilia Ziejka ; Zusammenfassungen in Deutsch und Englisch ; Abweichender Titel laut Übersetzung des Verfassers/der Verfasserin ; Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz, Masterarbeit, 2018 ; (VLID)2945852
