This paper examines the relationship between poetry and philosophy in the sophists, asking what role earlier traditions of poetry and song played in their work. The sophists' influence on various genres of literature and philosophy is widely acknowledged, but, as this paper shows, the influence of earlier traditions of poetry and myth on their work was no less important. The paper demonstrates too how the sophists' engagement with the poetic tradition, like that of the Presocratics, was geared primarily to serve their philosophical or didactic goals, even if the aesthetic benefits of poetic language and style were also appreciated and exploited. Moreover, the sophists recognized poetry's important role in education, and their varied use of poetic language, style, and content in their own teaching was a continuation of this traditional aspect of poetry. In conclusion, the sophists' work on rhetorical, political, and ethical issues engaged with, and was enriched by, the shared poetic culture of their time.
From an analytical standpoint, we are interested in revising the first critical neo-baroque-framed responses to Néstor Perlongher's politics and poetry so as to propose an updated reading of his work even more attentive to the current theoretical and critical debates. It is thought to conclude on an interpretation of the political violence in Perlongher's poetry as a literary assimilation of the surrounding historical reality in its intricate relationship with sexual violence. Finally, some hypotheses about the Argentinean poetic traditions and the non-normative sexuality cultures upon which to consider Néstor Perlongher's poetry will be outlined.
; The essay starts with the analysis of the novel "Leviatán" by Paul Auster to reconstruct a counterpoint between two ways of conceiving a critical and politically committed literary practice, linked to different assumptions about the author, the language and the reader. From the analysis of these conceptions, some questions are formulated that allow to critically elucidate the implications of each position.
The persona of Raúl Zurita, the 20th century Chilean poet, practically means an artistic manifestation which survived through the dictatorship of Pinochet. His work appears as a vivid memory of that period. Despite of being known principally as a poet, his accomplishments are actualized in different artistical fields. His poetry touches the stones of the Atacama Desert and creates cloud-letters in the sky, while attaching to the photographical and musical areas. This paper proposes the question of what was the role of all the artistic-poetic activity of Raúl Zurita in the cultural, political and social context of Chile. To draw any inference, it is needed to retrace the importance of the fusion of different artistical fields along with the enquiry of how naturally art incorporates into the everyday life. In a certain sense, Zurita's art is not less totalitarist (or totalitarian) than the military regime itself which is the context have generated it, even if they represent two completely opposite poles.
; The compilation of essays A republican speech. Essays on poetry brings together a selection of critical approaches to poetry and poetics written by the Spanish author Miguel Casado. The claim that poetry consists of an act of reflection with a political sense, that freely manifests what it is thought or felt, sets the starting point for a travel across his readings: Antonio Machado, Luigi Nono, Roberto Bolaño, César Vallejo, Paul Celan, Leopoldo María Panero, Mahmud Darwish, Bernard Noël and Francis Ponge. This book also tries to expand some aspects of literary theory that make the volume an instrument for an understanding of modern poetry, as the present review confirms.
; This study sets out to investigate some of the poetical features characterizing Chilean poetry spanning from the vanguard to the 80s. Focus has been placed on a few of the works which have established a particularly profound relation with their time, incorporating socio-cultural events as well as historical and political processes. A corpus has been assembled with some poetical and critical works by Vicente Huidobro, Nicanor Parra, Enrique Lihn, Juan Luis Martínez and Raúl Zurita, to identify the enunciation of speech acts which connote poetry as a privileged vehicle for the production of signifiers and content. The conception of poetry as a testimonial and a written memory of the community of speakers together with a challenge to the reader's memory are the underlying assertions onto which this thesis rests in deploying its analysis of the relation between writing and reality, between writing an ideology and between art and life. The ethical component peculiar to the works of Lihn and Zurita is urged by the need to overcome the bereavement associated with the golpe, violence, loss and social exclusion.

The Spanish poetry of the 1960s focuses on a fundamental issue: the maintenance of political and social commitment and the search for new poetics forms through a new promotion of authors, who were born after the Civil War. Nevertheless, there is a common topic for all of them: the Vietnam War. Poets of differents ages, ideologies and aesthetics, who write in the various peninsular languages, were implicated in the denunciation of the atrocities commited during that imperialist war. The Vietnam War shocked all Western societies and especially the Spanish country, as the Spanish population conceived the protest as another form of struggle against the dictatorship of General Franco, supported by the United States of America. This paper collects a significant number of poems dealing with this topic.
One of the meaningful problems of current Mapuche literature, from an aesthetic, intercultural and colonial perspective, lies on the persistence of the projects to strengthen a cultural stamp of their own. This process tenses the text as it moves from a mimetic dimension of the traditional art –its referential topos– in favour of the self-awareness of the writing act itself and its enunciation. In this transit, the different projects generate a dynamic literary cartography as they creatively locate themselves between an aesthetic of the sacralized and an aesthetics of otherness, from which the cultural and political territory, identity, the language, and poetry are expressions and extensions of a placement that seeks to be conceptualized in a poetic art. Some elements of this aesthetic process are addressed in the poetic projects by Cristian Cayupan, David Aniñir, and Kütral Vargas Huaiquimilla.
The themes about César Vallejo's poetry are inexhaustible, and so this article attempts to relate the author's life experiences to his poetics, especially in Los heraldos negros (The Black Heralds). To achieve this purpose, the context in the years of formation of the poet from Santiago have been taken into account as well as his correlation with other authors and the existing movements during that time. When dealing with The black heralds, we point out how he becomes a different poet because of his sensitivity in confronting the time he had to live with universal themes, such as the originality of the nature of pain, known by all human beings. Then in Trilce, it is the different and crucial events of his life that mark him in a brutal way, and it becomes the genesis of the work. España, aparta de mi este cáliz stands out as he achieves epic accents that are no longer present in his contemporary life because the poems have a political force and identification with a particular republican side, which, read during this time, represent the idea of solidarity and the symbolic possibility of defeating death. Already in Poemas humanos, Vallejo is the poet of pain, but also of hope and solidarity. Another important subject that has also been addressed in this work is love, seen from the perspective of psychoanalysis, which becomes a receptive form of unresolved Oedipus complex. However, it is later overcome just like love conflicts are.
; In the last decade, a change can be perceived in Spanish poetics, after the long hegemony of realistic or figurative poetry. Even if we are still long from seeing "the poetry of experience" being challenged, there are some signs that the disrepute of the Avantgarde will be soon a thing of the past. There is a more solid reading of Latin-American poets and other national traditions. Many young poets, without forming a group, are questioning the language, a move which comes along with a centrality of body in their works. In this paper we try to describe the main characteristics of some of the most valuable young Spanish poets, isolating some of their important traits, such as the belief in an oracular voice of body, the dissolution in polyphony and an increasing presence of the political.

Some problems of Latin American literature involves a theory discussion that does not always provide a critical revision on the issues that habitually support and encourage a lot of common concerns for the readers: how is the relation bet- ween text and author, between the world and literature? Does this relation change when the literature is Latin American or European? Nowadays, the idea of a «world literature» or a «World Republic of Letters» brings into play those matters not only in its theoretical aspect but in its political and geographical aspects too. A good part of critics disregard that any universalization of a problem owes much of its effectiveness to precise networks of standardization of certain topics, this prevents the possibility to consider the particular conditions of that discussion en Latin America, where these issues affects its critical history and connects, in a singular way, regarding poetry, history and justice.
