- ; Gravely affected by the Syrian crisis, Lebanon has managed to remain relatively stable against all odds – despite the influx of some 1.5 million Syrian refugees and internal political crisis involving actors who support opposing Syrian factions. Lebanon's resilience can be explained by the high opportunity cost of state breakdown for domestic, regional and international political actors. Moreover, international economic assistance, diaspora remittances and informal networks established by refugees help to prevent outright economic breakdown. Yet, stability remains extremely precarious. Important tipping points include (1) the IS strategy of spreading the conflict to Lebanon, and the consequent disintegration of the army along sectarian lines, (2) democratic decline and popular dissatisfaction, (3) Hizbullah's domestic ambitions and Israeli fears over the group's growing military power and (4) the potential for frustration between refugees and host communities turning into recurrent violence. However, (5) the slow economic decline and the worsening sanitary conditions stand out as the greatest challenges.

Lebanon is a country that has always been tangled with the ever looming threat of a growing health crisis. With a failing government and massive influx of refugees, mostly the victim of their war torn economy, it seemed inevitable that sanitation procedures would run short. Now the Lebanese people and government face the challenge of the spread of Cholera, a water-borne disease, within the countries vicinity as a result of mass pollution from the formation of informal settlements as well as the country being a hotbed for political instability. These have resulted in limited success in controlling the outbreak engulfing the millions of refugees and general populace. While external powers such as the WHO have extended a hand in providing medical as well as financial assistance in counter reacting to the growing disease, an absolute solution to the problem has been largely stunted due to several socio-economic factors that have unfolded over the years as well as the rate of garbage disposal. However, as mentioned in my report I give one valid method of controlling the problem from spiralling out of control. This report will help in giving an easy insight into the current Public Health situation and ways in which it is/can be countered.

Doing business 2020 is the 17th in a series of annual studies investigating the regulations that enhance business activity and those that constrain it. Doing business presents quantitative indicators on business regulations and the protection of property rights that can be compared across 190 economies - from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe - and over time. Regulations affecting 12 areas of the life of a business are covered: starting a business, dealing with construction permits, getting electricity, registering property, getting credit, protecting minority investors, paying taxes, trading across borders, enforcing contracts, resolving insolvency, employing workers, and contracting with the government. The employing workers and contracting with the government indicator sets are not included in this year's ranking on the ease of doing business. Data in doing business 2020 are current as of May 1, 2019. The indicators are used to analyze economic outcomes and identify what reforms of business regulation have worked, where, and why. This economy profile presents indicators for Lebanon; for 2020, Lebanon ranks 143.

Technological inventions stand beyond limits in applications to promote and sustain good governance, as man travels in open space, in search and discovery of the mysteries of the galaxies. In contrast, man in most developing countries still relies upon the primitive instinct reflected in thought, behavior, and culture of violence. Good governance is enhanced by technological discoveries to promote constructive communication, facilitate transactions, keep accurate records, provide better public services, and combat corruption. It is the key factor to promote governance transparency, managerial effectiveness and sustain development. The presence of good governance will help countries fight violence and corruption by spreading a sense of equity and utilitarianism. This research focuses upon collecting data from the developing country of Lebanon, in the MENA region, where most official and public transactions are still carried out, handwritten, in ledgers and endless bureaucratic tapes. The authors aim to collect and analyze the actual data, for its heartbreaking, that in the 21st century humans are still living in the swampy darkness of corruption and backwardness. The hypothesis of this research aims at highlighting the importance and values, produced by the application of e-government to help sustain the country's development.

In theory, microfinance is a system of decentralized bankers lending to the poor in order to improve economic systems and emphasize entrepreneurial development. Specifically, within the Middle East and North Africa region, the poor economic performances have been closely linked to poor savings and investments. This thesis explores the various factors which affect the microfinance sector in three countries in the Middle East and North Africa region: Algeria, Tunisia, and Lebanon. Algeria, Tunisia, and Lebanon, have similar cultural and political histories that could potentially affect the development of microfinance within the state. Microfinance institutes aim at economic improvements, but the success of microfinance is contingent on different factors in disparate countries. For this reason, focusing on these particular former French countries make it possible to assess if the history and government policies of a country have an impact on the extent to which microfinance is incorporated in the alleviation of poverty. ; 2015-05-01 ; B.A. ; Sciences, Dept. of Political Science ; Bachelors ; This record was generated from author submitted information.

Abstract : Democracy refers to the rule of the people. It is a system of representational government wherein people have the right to determine their social, economic and political course. Over the past centuries and decades, as the world has been embracing democracy, as a political ideal, some parts of the globe lag behind. Middle East, with its unique history and geographic importance being one among them; remains the center of discussion. Within the Middle East itself, Lebanon enjoys a very special position; not only for geo-political and economic reasons, but more so for its peculiar demographics. Divided among 18 recognized confessions, Lebanon offers a rich blend of fracture and unity. It is this mix of a small yet diverse society, limping its way towards an inclusive and successful polity that has been put to light in this paper. With its internal nuances and external flavors; Lebanon offers a test for the metal of democracy. The challenges it has and is still facing, and the prospects it enjoys for the future have been delved in this essay.

This is an Accepted Manuscript of an article published by Taylor & Francis in International Journal of Sport Policy on 26th Jan 2015, available online: http://dx.doi.org/10.1080/19406940.2014.914553. ; Lebanon offers an interesting context for the study of sport policy as there is a lack of literature on sport policies in developing countries, and particularly, in small- and multi-confessional societies. Hence, the aim of this study was to illustrate how the dynamic of power between the state and the political parties/confessional communities is reflected in the national sport system. In particular the paper seeks to provide some insight into the mechanism in place to implement the concept of 'balance of power' or so-called mosaic society within the national sport system, looking specifically at structure and resource allocation.
