; The text hypothesizes a myth of the figure in our contemporary societies by resorting to the thought of Roland Barthes on a subject where one hardly expects it: the criticism of the thought of risk, in the criminal context. Indeed, today, the figure, with its scientific and rational appearances, would constitute the cardinal virtue of a well-conducted policy. The various indicators to which it gives rise would lead to good "governance" under the guise of what Barthes would call an innocent word. Worse, dehistoricized and manipulated with no real contextualisation, it would have become a sign that is void of content (a "fetish"?), exonerating those who use it from assuming the real in its complexity. In this figure's universe, we would thus witness the deployment of a new narrative that we propose to discuss. And the idea of this text is perhaps here, in the folds of the real and the political, illuminated by the thought of Barthes and his Mythologies. In these perspectives, two main questions arise: on the one hand, what happens when the figure passes for truer than reality? On the other hand, has it not already become our second nature?

With the accession of the princeps in 27 BC, begins in Rome the "Age of Augustus" - a period of political, but also cultural revolution. Authors and poets joined this collective thinking about the foundations of the City, its identity, its relationship with its princeps and its gods, the imperium of Augustus, and the ideals to offer to the new generation. This dissertation aims to analyse how the Latin poet Horace took part not only to the renewal of the poetic forms in Rome, but also to these reflections around the novus status. ln which way the archaic Greek lyric, that he tries to adapt to Rome in his Odes, as well as the Greek mythology, that he recreates to make them echo the challenges of the Principate, make it possible for Horace to conjure the privileged relation ship between Rome and its princeps?

The goal of this dissertation is to study the way in which references have been created and are used by political actors in the Middle-Eastern conflicts, so that these references have become norms, which are contingent to their actions. These norms can be state-created or through private initiatives, and our aim is also to study how these two dimensions interact. This dissertation also takes into account and the way these references have been mixed in the context of globalization with references from other cultural areas. This goal has been attained through the study of memorials and museums, and through the study of films, in Egypt, Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey.
