A content analysis of political news televised by the Belgian public broadcasting corporation 1982-1991 focuses on the marginal & commercialized status of its political coverage vs other information. Political news appears last in the broadcast, & analysis is frequently omitted. When political news appears, it is fragmented, actualized, personified, dramatized, or exploited for entertainment value. While newscasters claim that there is little public interest in political news, it is argued that a public will remain uninterested & uninformed when there is limited access to information. Public television producers are urged to rethink their priorities in presenting political news, especially analysis. A current affairs program that includes a parliamentary report is suggested. 8 Tables. Adapted from the source document.
