The aim of this paper is to investigate the narratives of radicalization (some- times unintended) throughout the verbalization of everyday experiences by young second generation Italians. The causes of radicalization are still under the scrutiny of contemporary literature: micro, meso, and macro factors combine themselves into a complex puzzle, driving to political and religious extremism. Interviews with 42 young generation Italians with Muslim background, aged between 18-30, have been made. Interviews, based in six different Italian cities (Rome, Boulogne, Milan, Turin, Palermo, and Cagliari), have been conducted in the framework of the project Oltre l'Orizzonte. Contro-narrazioni dai margini al centro, aimed to prevent radicalization. In this paper, the testimonies collected isolating interviewees' narratives on socio-political alienation, globalization and religion, and international and domestic policies are examined. Iden- tity and cultural claims emerge as distinctive matters, depicting continuous struggles leading to a troubled adaptation between religious and cultural values and citizenship practices.

The author, inspired by a news story, builds a hypothesis – based on the radical interactionism and narrative criminology teachings – about the stages of the radicalization process of a young Moroccan guy over time. The author also claims the importance of starting in schools, residential communities and juvenile criminal institutions, a work to listen and support the dissention, experienced by the teens at risk for radicalization, when it is still in the embryonic phase. This approach could help these guys to progressively get in touch with themselves and with their "inner parliament". The support would focus on analyzing – in a completely confidential space – through which stages and till which level they are involved to initiate an extreme belief system, that supports them in the willful violation of legal and/or social norms effective for everybody who lives in the society.
In the last three years, Europe and North America have been hit by an unprecedented wave of terrorist attacks, carried out by individuals inspired by jihadist ideology. Who are the authors of these attacks? Are they born and raised in the West or are they refugees and migrants? How are they radicalized? Were they well educated and integrated or, on the contrary, lived on the margins of society? Have they acted alone? What were their connections with the Islamic State? Answering these and other questions is useful for understanding the nature and scope of the threat and for being able to identify adequate political solutions based on empirical evidence. The study - the first of this type - aims to analyze the demographic profile, the trajectories of radicalization and the links with the Islamic State of the individuals who carried out jihadist attacks in Europe and North America from the proclamation of the so-called Caliphate in June 2014.
The chapter presents the "Protective and promotive factors building resilience against violent radicalisation" developed by S. Sieckelinck and A. Gielen for RAN (Radicalisation Awareness Network).
___ Social media owners have massive power over the lives of users, and their dominance has caused many problems, such as capitalism and micro-targeting given by the collection of personal data, disinformation related to the propagation of fake news and conspiracies, dangers of radicalization and polarization, and problems related to the social domain of the user, such as addiction and depression. To solve these issues, it is necessary to break down Big Tech's monopoly. The goal of this study was to reveal an effective solution to the problem related to the overwhelming power of social media, and possible emancipation from them. How could the power of these technological corporations be limited? How could the user emancipate himself from social media and break free from the cycle of addiction? How could be made less unequal the relationship between proprietary social media and users? I have exposed the fundamental stages related to the birth and evolution of the Internet and the Web, I have analyzed the theses of Cory Doctorow and Jaron Lanier, and, finally, I have examined two projects of revolution: the revolution from below for the emancipation from proprietary social media and the persuasive tools used by two independent collectives (C.I.R.C.E and Wu Ming Foundation), and the revolution from above proposed by Fukuyama, Richman, and Goel.
Dissent is the nineteen-sixties-seventies cultural keyword both in the States and Western Europe. Dissent defines the long uninterrupted 1960s – 1970s juvenile cultural revolution both in the United States and Europe. The new time was announced by the 1964 free-speech movement at Berkley University involving from its very beginning the civil rights question, to which the protest was soon added against the American military involvement in the twenty-years long Viet-Nam war. As a matter of fact, the student movement was meant to radically change the world. Some of the roots of this revolution are to be looked for in the late forties and in the fifties. The question more or less knowingly being dealt with was first of all the radical perspective of freeing the mind from all social conditioning and received ideas. It was the same perspective defined by Ronald Laing's and David Cooper's new anti-psychiatric approach. Protest, and the struggle for freedom, however, was doomed to extreme radicalization, turning discussion, and utopian dreams into political violence the Weathermen, of course, in the States, die Rote Armée Fraktion in Germany, Le Brigate Rosse in Italy, turning dreams and ideological struggle into a nightmare.
; ABSTRACT: the thesis analyzes the dynamics of the 1848 Revolution in the Calabrian provinces of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. Starting from the conspiratorial and insurrectional "precedents" of the 1830s, up to the revolution of June-July 1848, it focuses on the relationship between the radical bourgeoisie and the popular movements for the "revindica" of common goods, communal lands, pastures, forests and public waters. On the one hand, the research highlights the formation and action of a radical revolutionary intelligentsia, attentive to the needs of the populations, which elaborates a particular form of "republican patriotism", based on democratic and republican federalism, with a municipal base. On the other hand, it examines the development of the great "communist movement" of the spring of 1848, in which the political aspirations of the radical bourgeoisie and the populations' needs merge, giving rise to a complex movement aimed at redefining political and social relations, through the democratic autonomy of the municipalities and the reconstitution, protection and community management of collective ownership, against the central State and usurping owners. The local context and the dynamics of multiple conflicts, between the State, the local populations and landowners determine the emergence of "rural politics", giving rise to a revolutionary alliance, that characterize in the Calabrian context the radicalization of rural populations. This alliance makes the first anti-monarchical revolution of the Italian "long Quarantotto" possible.
; This doctoral research focuses above the study of Italian neofascism in the context of Rome, considering how quantitatively relevant it has been there and the national importance of this local case. A long term approach was chosen in order to identify the original characteristics and the developmental paths. This research chronologically moves therefore from the first specifically neofascist occurrences after the liberation of Rome and the neofascist movements arisen in the first postwar period. A special attention has been paid to the relationship between these movements, most of which characterized by illegal and small terrorist activities, and the Movimento Sociale Italiano (MSI), the party born in December 1946 as the lawful and parliamentary expression of neofascism. A long period extraparliamentary tradition so started alongside the long path the legal party took within the institutions, based on the claim of a typically antisystemic and revolutionary mentality. The deriving relationship, though tending to parallelism, kept a contradictory dialectic and a certain level of reciprocal exchange. From this point of view Italian neofascism is characterized by a growing internal tension as well as by an inborn conflict with the antifascist and democratic Italian context. That tension determined through years (both within the MSI and the extraparliamentary area) an inclination to nonrecognition of leading figures, which appears to be a paradox considering within a political mentality where the hierarchical principle has an archetypal value. Passing through the 1968 protests, the internal conflict grew faster with a more distinctly generational meaning and the radicalization of revolutionary motifs, imploding in a very violent though very short period of armed struggle.
