In this honors thesis, I explore the process of racialization in media coverage of White-on-Black violent events (both crimes and incidents not recognized by the legal system as crimes) using a critical race theory framework. Recent years have seen a series of killings of and assaults on African American people that have become newsworthy, as they have been seen, often controversially, as unjustified. The controversy has largely broken down on racial and political lines, with minority Americans and the left seeing these incidents as evidence and example of ongoing racial inequality, with whites and the right, in particular right-wing whites, denying that race is a relevant category. By using critical race theory's understanding of race and racism as active social processes, I trace the assumptions, politics, and social consequences of media coverage across conservative, centrist, and left media outlets. The shooting and killing of Michael Brown, an unarmed black teenager from Ferguson, MO., by white police officer Darren Wilson and the coverage of the event were examined as a case study. Over 300 articles and videos from national, regional, and local media outlets covering the incident were compiled and analyzed based on their content. Additionally, interviews were conducted with students of the Bridgewater State University's Criminal Justice department to assess their perceptions of the incident and how those perceptions may have been influenced by exposure to specific media coverage. From the content analysis (chapter 3) I conclude that the media did in fact racialize the shooting of Michael Brown and fueled racial tensions by creating two distinct narratives of events through the use of racialized language and frames. From the interviews conducted and reviewed in chapter 4, I further conclude that the perceptions formed by my peers, based on their exposure to media coverage of the event, can be understood as racialized when examined through Eduardo Bonilla-Silva's four racial frames.

International audience ; The political life of the States refers to a number of issues, particularly in the social, economic and cultural fields, specific to each society. The specialty of any activity in international politics would be to make collective problems emerge, to reveal the demands of political power and to propose solutions. In this context, the media would be involved in actions of socialization, mobilization, negotiation, promotion and participation. As the fourth power, they would play alongside the executive, legislative and judicial branches an essential role of actors and witnesses in the life of modern States and in relations between States. By their intervention in the process of pacifying conflicts, their power is no longer in doubt since they have proved their indispensable role both in liberal democracies and in other political systems. ; La vie politique des Etats renvoie à quantité d'enjeux notamment dans le domaine social, économique et culturel, propre à chaque société. This research hypothesizes that all conspiracy theories have dominating isotopies and images-symbols regardless of ideology or context. As a result, I hypothesized that the common denominator might be discovered in figurative reasoning, which means using the same representations to explain current events, in order to detect an ideal center of the semantic universe of conspiracy where the diverse conspiracist fringes converge. Social media invariant topicalizations of the Covid-19 epidemic and the Russia-Ukraine war are the ideal field to validate this hypothesis. The corpus on which the study was conducted consists of thousands of online items published between February 15, 2020, and October 15, 2022. Within the corpus were chosen posts by QAnon supporters designated as disinformation "superspreaders."

Recently, a group of conservative policy intellectuals and writers captured the attention of the media and even of a few Republican politicians. These "reformocons," including Ross Douthat of the New York Times, Ramesh Ponnuru of the National Review, and Michael Strain of the American Enterprise Institute, believe it is time for the Republican Party to propose public policy solutions to domestic issues like health care and education, rather than provoke the cultural resentments of the party base, what Douthat has called the politics of "white identity."

Mass-media have powerful influence on characteristics and development of contemporary societies. Modern societies are characterized by different varieties of violence as un-human social and anthropological behavior patterns of different societies and as shapes of social pathology. Media are the most significant mediator between sport and men of modern societies particularly of young people. Violence, as on expression of aggressive behavior, is not just a consequence of global society and mass-media influence on audience (especially hooligans), but it is developing as a consequence of socialization of personality. Youth violence is also a consequence of mass-media influence on young people's education. Children and youth are especially sensitive to violence in mass-media.

Social distancing is not always understood well by common people. The media's inaccurate information and the minimum of the government socialization create an excessive fear for specific groups. Then, the practices of social or physical distancing go beyond its real objectives
