微博在中国的互联网上十分流行,这对中国宣传机构的信息控制形成了新的挑战。微博可以使信息得到快速和广泛的传播,从而增加了国家宣传机器进行信息控制的难度。本文试图探讨微博可以在多大程度上帮助网民挑战政府对信息的控制。通过分析在新浪微博上收集的数据,本文发现微博对宣传工作的挑战有四种机制。首先,基于对微博上热门政治信息的分析,本文发现微博上的部分话语权由媒体转向个人,同时出现了一批对政府持批判态度的超级网民。其次,对于一些热点事件,微博与传统媒体的报道角度与侧重点不同,从而使得中国的政治信息更加多元化 。第三,虽然中央政府可以实现对微博的有效审查,但地方政府时常不能控制微博上的报道。第四,网民通过微博上的信息运动,可以将某些传统媒体不愿报道的事件问题化,这对中国传统媒体的自我审查形成了冲击。本文认为微博可以帮助人民挑战国家的信息控制。 ; The micro-blog, with its huge popularity in recent years, poses a new challenge to the propaganda state in China. The micro-blog is able to spread information fast and reach a wide audience. The liberating potential of the micro-blog on the information flow is in conflict with the control efforts from the propaganda state. It is puzzling then the extent to which the netizens are able to use the micro-blog to counter the information control. Based on the data collected from Sina Weibo, this study finds the propaganda state is challenged by the micro-blog through four mechanisms. First, analysis of political posts demonstrates a partial shift of discursive power from media to individuals and a rise of critical super-netizens in the micro-blog. Second, the posts in the micro-blog report the controversial issues in a different way than the traditional media that contributes to the pluralization of political information. Third, the netizens are able to use the micro-blog to expose certain information that the local government would like to censor. Forth, the netizens are able to problematize certain issues through information movement that challenge the self-censorship of media. 有關臺灣邊地的拓墾研究,往往傾向研究土地拓墾的過程與組織。其基本論述架構是漢墾戶向官方申請墾照後,官府將界外未墾的荒埔提供給漢人開墾,漢人如何自力或與官方合作經營的結果。這類的研究論述忽略了原來早已存在的非法拓墾行動一直沒有消失。拓墾的申請與其說是新的程序,不如說是一種合法化的過程。也正是這樣一種認知脈絡下,內山設隘開墾的組織就不是表面上所認識的是一批為官方守邊,或是因生番擾害而防番的一支武力組織。十九世紀初隘的設防已逐漸成為一種界外開墾的管道,清代官方檔案也提醒我們注意這些界外開墾的墾戶不僅沒有防番,可能還一直與生番有貿易來往關係。換言之,這些以防番為名的墾戶其實是假借防番為名,掩護越界開墾之實,其向官府強調「生番擾害」的原因只是為自己取得更大界外土地開墾的正當性。 ; 道光年間以前這類非法開墾早已經存在,官方也早已發現界外越墾的問題,因此如何控制界外開墾乃成為官方邊地控制的一大課題。為了處理這些問題,官府不斷調整其政策與設定邊界,從乾隆到道光年以後,這些邊界的浮動,與其說是官方主動規畫計議的結果,不如說是漢人與熟番通過各種途徑越界開墾,建構地權主張、操弄挪移既有的邊界後,官府最終追認的結果。臺灣邊界的變動以及隘墾區的拓墾顯示清代官方政策的實踐是不斷在向地方社會的現實妥協中逐漸調整的,而地方社會也在官方政策的模糊空間中,藉由官方的名義與權威,尋求自己利益的伸張與庇護。這便是臺灣邊地所顯現的一幅國家與地方互動的景象。臺灣作為清王朝帝國的邊疆,其邊地社會的建構,除了幫助我們把握臺灣整體歷史進程的理解外,也提供我們從一側面掌握清帝國擴張的內在軌跡與多元族群統治下的彈性策略。 ; Existing studies on land cultivation in Taiwan's frontier have the focus on its process and organizations. The most popular narrative is that the Han Chinese cultivators were granted the right to the waste land from the government. What is missed out in the narrative is the fact that illegal cultivation that had lasted for so long had never disappeared; therefore the application for license was little more than a move of self-legitimating. In light of this, the organizations which set up forts and managed land cultivation should not be taken on surface value that their purpose was to safeguard the border for the government or defend against the harassment of the aborigines. The forts became a system of land cultivation beyond the border, and the official documents evidenced the fact that cultivators did not defend against the aborigines, rather, they kept doing businesses with them. In other words, the cultivators in the name of self-defending were actually to cover their illegal activities and to grabbing more land, and for that purpose they emphasized the "harassment of the raw aborigines". ; Illegal activities had already existed before mid-Qing. 本文主要研究十九世紀末二十世紀初的一種傳統民間藝術--年畫。這短短的幾十年見證了在中國發生的一系列翻天覆地的社會政治變化:清政府的垮臺,外國勢力的入侵,以及西方先進技術與思想的引入;這些變化我們都可以在這一時期的年畫中找到。本文的地點範圍主要集中于天津楊柳青,另外其他中國北方的年畫產地的年畫,如武強、楊家埠,以及江蘇的桃花塢等,也會在文章因行文需要而被提到。總的來說,本文分為三個大部份,也就是年畫的生產、內容和消費。我認為這些新內容之所以在年畫中出現主要有三個原因:首先,西方先進印刷技術和新的繪畫風格的引入讓年畫內容的轉變有了可能性;其次一些維新人士創辦的畫報和報刊也對年畫的發展產生了影響;最後便是民初時期民國政府採取的對年畫的干涉。本文將這些在年畫中出現的新的主題進行了詳細的探討。一方面,我們可以發現反帝和其他愛國的內容被放入年畫,以此激發百姓的愛國情緒。與傳統年畫主要關注家庭這一點不同的是,改良年畫的重心放在了保衛國家這個更高的主題上。另一方面,在這類年畫中,婦女不再被認為是男人的附屬品,它們鼓勵婦女實現經濟和人格上的獨立,並且有必要的話,也可以成為士兵,加入到保家衛國的行列中。最後一方面,西方先進事物的引入,如鐘錶、自行車、火車和飛機等,為大眾引領了一種新的物質文化,也在不知不覺中改變中百姓的日常生活習慣。作為結論,我提出改良年畫是大眾文化和精英文化互動產生的結果。它們大多數都是在民國政府的提倡之下而生產的,但是年畫的商業本質決定了它需要有一定的市場以保證盈利。這樣,傳統年畫的形式被保留了下來,同時改革家和當權者為其填入了新的思想和觀念,用來教育廣大百姓。這種"舊瓶裝新酒的宣傳方式雖然效果在清末民初效果不佳,但是它卻在某種程度上為中國作為一個現代國家的出現奠定了基礎。 ; This research examines nianhua年畫 (New Year pictures), a form of traditional folk art, from the late nineteenth to the early twentieth centuries. This time period witnessed a series of dramatic social and political changes in China: the collapse of Qing Dynasty, invasions of foreign powers, and introduction of Western advanced technologies and ideas, all of which could be found in nianhua prints. The spatial focus is mainly on Yangliuqing楊柳青, a town very close to Tianjin. However, nianhua produced in other places in North China, such as Wuqiang武強 and Yangjiabu楊家埠, and those from Taohuawu桃花塢 in the Yangzi River Delta, will also be mentioned, for some of them are of great use in my writings. Generally, this study has three sections: the production and circulation of nianhua in Yangliuqing, the contents of nianhua with new elements, and how common people reacted to the reformed nianhua. I demonstrate that the import of Western advanced printing technologies and painting styles, pictorials and vernacular newspapers published by social reformers, and the involvement of Republican government were the major reasons for the appearance of new elements in nianhua. 粤劇亦被譽為「南國紅豆」已有三百多年歷史是中國傳統戲曲之一。粤劇流傳於南中國,香港,以及海外華人的社會,其中以廣州佛山一帶最為著名。然而在近年外來文化的影響下,粤劇逐漸被忽視。自二零零九年起,粤劇正式被列為聯合國教科文組織人類非物質文化遺產。隨著國家政府對粤劇的重視,地方傳統曲藝在廣州的發展亦產生了變化。本論文以廣州粤劇的音樂社區為中心,著眼於樂師,把樂師分為業餘者,職業樂師及國家級演奏員三類。本論文亦論述粤劇樂師在粤劇國家化的過程中所面對的改變及所扮演的角色,並探討粤劇由一種地方性的民間傳統藝術演變為一項代表國家的非物質文化遺產對當地音樂社區造成的衝擊。 ; Since Cantonese Opera was declared an intangible cultural heritage representation by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2009, the Chinese government has carried out different policies to "develop Cantonese Opera. This study looks at the recent "development" of Cantonese Opera in Guangzhou from the perspective of musicians. In Guangzhou, different forms of performing groups are present, from privately organized interest groups to state-managed national troupes. This study divides the music community in Guangzhou into three sub-communities: amateurs, professionals and national musicians and investigates the changing lifestyle and way of interaction of musicians within the music community due to the changes that have occurred in Guangzhou with the listing of Cantonese Opera as an intangible cultural heritage. ; This research focuses on the musicians in the Cantonese Opera music community in Guangzhou. 本論文通過十二個月的田野研究,探討城市化進程中,鄉鎮、城鎮與城市等三個處於不同城市發展階段的地方,信息化進程中的性別政治有何異同。本研究的核心問題是:城鎮化與信息化的交互作用如何進行?在城鎮化與信息化同時推進的當下中國,個體,尤其是個體的性別化身體,如何與以電腦、互聯網爲代表的數字科技之間産生脫嵌與再嵌入的"雙向形塑關係? ; 本研究運用科技馴養、個體化和性別-科技共創理論,分析城鎮家庭中電腦和互聯網的社會化生活。本研究發現中國社會現代性建構中,城鎮用戶通過在家庭內部採用電腦和互聯網,逐步形成一種數字化家庭關係,其中互聯網本地化特徵明顯。此外,本研究還發現,性別化的網絡互連的個體化是當下中國社會中的城鎮化、信息化發展過程中的主要特徵。本研究採用綫上與綫下相結合的多點民族誌的混合方法,探討在中國城鎮化過程中研究性別與互聯網的共創關係。 ; Based on ethnographic data collected in 12 months of field work, this thesis studies the gender politics in the process of digitization and urbanization by comparing the phenomenon in a village, a town, and a city. The three main research questions of this study are: How are the interactions between urbanization and digitalization? How do digitization and gender relations mutually construct each other in the process of urbanization? ; Using theories of technology domestication, individualization theory and the mutual construction of gender and technology, I analyze the use of computers and internet in the social life of rural and town families. This research found out that in the process of modernization, as rural and town families adopted the use of computers and internet; they gradually transformed themselves into, digitalized families. Furthermore, the individualization of gendered networks stood out as the key characteristic of urbanization and digitalization of post socialist China. 這項研究是以民族誌描述方法,以南中國傳統的原生牛奶和現代的進口牛奶之生產及消費切入點,探討現代性的問題。對近代中國奶品需求急增的研究,大多解釋為現代西方食習慣之影響。我透過在順德及香港牛奶生產者及消費者日常生活的描述,試圖說明這食習慣的改變並非單是「西化」;相反,這其實是中國傳統的一種延續,再由殖民主義、資本主義,全球化,及中國建構新型國家這四種動力驅使下形成。而這四種動力又有賴市場 (本地及跨國的乳品公司、財金投資者、食品包裝生產商等) 、醫科專業人士及政府對 「健康」、「飲食文化遺產」等概念賦予新的社會價值。本文嘗試透過傳統和現代的牛奶之生產及消費,審視現代中國人對「健康」和「飲食文化遺產」的觀念和價值,在近年食品安全問題的陰霾下如何改變,這又如何反映中國在現代化和新型國家建構過程中的社會變遷,並探究有關身份認同,家庭角色與現代性的意涵。 ; This thesis is an ethnographic study of the change in the production and consumption of indigenous and imported cow milk in South China, particularly Shunde and Hong Kong, during the post-Mao period. Contrary to the popular view that cow milk consumption in China is a result of Western influence, the milk production and consumption in South China is actually a continuation of the Chinese tradition. This thesis shows that the popularity of milk consumption in Shunde and Hong Kong is driven by the forces of colonialism, globalization, capitalism, and modern state-building. Milk consumption in these two places is mainly promoted through three kinds of agents - the market (global and local milk companies, financial investors, food-packaging companies), medical professionals and the State. I illustrate how these forces and agents affect the classification, meanings and values of health and culinary heritage, and how this results in a reinvention of tradition and a change in the concept of morality, amidst concerns over food safety. 電視模式(TV formats)在全球的跨文化旅行,及其如何本土化以適應在地社會政經情境,成為值得學界關注和研究的主題。作為對這一主題的回應,本文致力於研究《醜女無敵》電視劇--"醜女貝蒂"模式在中國的本土化。借由對該劇文本、生產和觀眾解讀的綜合分析,本研究從宏觀上探索符號形式與中國社會變遷的關係。具體而言,研究者聚焦於以下研究問題:在當前電視模式貿易、克隆和本土化的背景下,中國電視劇《醜女無敵》與美國電視劇《醜女貝蒂》有何異同?在中華人民共和國這一特定社會情境下,《醜女無敵》受到了怎樣的政治、經濟限制?中國觀眾如何解讀《醜女無敵》電視劇?《醜女無敵》受歡迎的原因所在,及該劇表徵了怎樣的中國現代性? ; 為回答以上問題,研究者採用了多種定質方法,即文本分析、民族志、焦點小組、檔案分析和深度訪談。其研究發現《醜女無敵》作為混雜性文本,兼有西方現代性元素和獨特的中國性。《醜女無敵》的生產受到了中國政經情境的極大限制。經濟力量有中心主導、系統地控制著生產過程。而政治力量的控制卻是散漫於整個生產者社群,并呈現去中心的狀態。中國觀眾在解讀《醜女無敵》時主要有两種模式:霸權式解讀与協商式解讀。而对抗式解读却在该剧的解读模式中呈现缺失状态。持有霸權式解讀的觀眾作為主流在諸多方面與權力中心一致,從而形成霸權效應。 ; 《醜女無敵》可歸類為本研究所析霸權文本,并表徵和複製了一種中國現代(Chinese modernity)。轄制於党國,中國現代性在其三大結構性維度上都呈現高度的混雜性。就中國電視業發展趨勢而言,研究者認為全球電視模式在中國將愈加繁榮,因其有極大潛質成為霸權文本,繼而服務于權力中心。 ; With the increasing transcultural flow of television formats, the localization of these formats to fit various socio-political contexts is worthy of academic scrutiny. This is a case study on the TV drama Ugly Wudi (Chounv Wudi), the Chinese version of the global Ugly Betty format. Exploring textuality, production, and reception simultaneously, my dissertation sheds light on the relationship between symbolic forms and social transition in China. Specifically speaking, the research questions initiating this study are as follows: Under current TV format cloning, trading, and borrowing, what are the similarities and differences between the Chinese Ugly Wudi and the American Ugly Betty? In the specific context of the People's Republic of China, what are the political and economic forces that constrain the production of Ugly Wudi? What are the audience interpretations of Ugly Wudi? What accounts for Ugly Wudi's popularity, and to what extent does it reflect a Chinese version of modernity? ; Multiple qualitative methods have been applied by the researcher to explicate the research questions, including textual analysis, ethnography, focus groups, archival analysis, and in-depth interviews. 本論文以政治學及心理學的理論為基礎,探討社會人士的集體行動及政治參與行為及其背後的心理因素,以及網上新聞的普及對這些行為、意向是否具催化作用。根據政治學及社會心理學文獻,團體在社會得到的社會認定「social identity」)及個人對自身的政治功效意識 (「political efficacy」)往往是影響人們集體行動及政治參與(稱「團體參與行動」「intergroup participatory actions」)程度的決定因素。不過,個人/團體對集體行動的參與意向跟媒體使用及社會人士的實際參與之間的關係在文獻中似乎從未提到。然而,這方面的研究在現今數碼時代十分重要。 ; 關於網上新聞的影響,主要的文獻論述有二:工具性論述指出網上資訊澎湃、隨手可得,且成本極低,網上新聞的使用對社會人士參與政治有直接影響(本論文將驗證此觀點,是為假設一);心理學論述指出網上新聞對人們的影響視乎個人既有的心理素質。本文主張個人參與集體行動及參與政治的意向在於人們是否能從這些行動中得到高度的「社會認定」及「政治功效意識」;而這兩方面又可隨著個人接觸的網上資訊增加而得以提昇,因為人們傾向選擇接收那些肯定他們既有看法及態度的資訊(即「選擇性暴露理論」),以及那些提昇他們對某社群歸屬感的資訊(即「使用與滿足理論」)。本文提出下列觀點,並加以驗證:網上新聞的普及提昇「個人功效意識」(假設二)、提昇「集體功效意識」(假設三)、提昇參與團體行動人士得到的「社會認定」(假設四),而個人/團體從社會認定中得到的滿足對他們實際參與團體行動有驅動作用(假設五)。 ; 本文對在美國及香港具代表性的民意調查作出分析,分析結果跟上列的假設吻合。然後進行了一項實驗,其結果指出「個人功效意識」或可作為「政治功效意識」內一有效的獨立準則。本人在美國及香港進行民意調查(各地兩項;所涉及的調查相隔一年),並作迴歸分析,以驗證上述有關社會人士參與集體行動及政治意向的假設,研究重點包括人們的投票意向、示威意向、議題參與意向及公民參與意向。研究結果支持假設一(即工具性論述)及假設三(即有關「集體功效意識」的心理學論述)的有效性。假設二(有關「個人功效意識」)及假設四(有關「社會認定」)可作進一步驗證。研究中所有具統計學顯著意義的結果卻否定了假設五(有關「社會認定」對個人/團體帶來的滿足程度)的有效信度。 ; 最後,研究局限、結果應用等亦會在文中細述。 ; Applying an interdisciplinary and integrative theoretical perspective and framework, this thesis is concerned with the role of Internet news on collective action and political participation, and the important moderating role of certain psychological antecedents on the relationship. The literature shows that identification with a group (social identity) and the feeling that one could make a substantive difference (political efficacy) are two important predictors of such actions (termed "intergroup participatory actions in this thesis). However, the processes that link the antecedents of participatory behaviors to media use and then to actual participation have been neglected.
