This paper analyses how conflict impacts social capital. The existing literature suggests that the social capital of a society which has experienced conflict or military operations will not be shaped in the same way as the social capital in an area where there were no such actions. Yet, there is disagreement on what the specific effects of a conflict are. This paper seeks to address this puzzle by comparing levels of social capital in Serbia and Poland. The research presented in this paper was conducted among two groups; the first, a group of respondents including young Serbs (18-24 years old) who, during the 1990s, survived hostilities on the territory of their country or grew up surrounded by people who were participating in military actions. The second group includes young Poles (aged 18-24), who as children, grew up in a society, which from 1995-2002 did not experience either conflict or military action. Significant research results include the following: in a society in which no conflict has occurred in the past, there is a higher level of social and political participation; the formation of bridging communities, trust in social actors from outside the immediate family, trust in institutions, and a greater sense of security in the neighbourhood.
The purpose of this article is to analyse the dynamics and variability of the conflict between the Russian Federation and Ukraine. As noted in the introduction, the term "conflict" refers to the state of bilateral relations between the two countries since 2014, nevertheless, for the analysis of the current state of the conflict, the key date is 24 February 2022. Since the start of the invasion, described by the Russians as a "special military operation", we have seen an increase in the dynamics and intensity of the conflict at all levels. The intensification of military operations has also affected the political, economic, and social spheres. Just when it seemed that the so-called "annexation referenda" would mark a new phase in the course of the conflict, and the scenario of a "Ukrainian version" of a low-intensity conflict would become more feasible, it turned out that the counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine changed not only the situation on the frontline but also dynamized the other levels on which the conflict is taking place. This forced the author to update the analysed phenomenon. The article concludes with the constatation that we are in a "period of transition", and the coming winter may once again change the situation of both sides in the ongoing war. Celem artykułu jest analiza zmienności i dynamiki konfliktu pomiędzy Federacją Rosyjską i Ukrainą. Jak zaznaczono we wstępie, termin "konflikt" odnosi się do stanu stosunków dwustronnych pomiędzy tymi państwami od 2014 roku, niemniej jednak, dla analizy obecnego stanu konfliktu, kluczową datą jest 24 luty 2022 roku. Od rozpoczęcia inwazji określanej przez Rosjan "specjalną operacją militarną" obserwujemy wzrost dynamiki i intensywności konfliktu na wszystkich poziomach. Intensyfikacja działań militarnych wpłynęła także na sferę polityczną, ekonomiczną i społeczną. W momencie kiedy wydawało się, że tzw. "referenda aneksyjne" wyznaczą nową fazę przebiegu konfliktu i bardziej realny stanie się scenariusz "ukraińskiej wersji" konfliktu niskiej intensywności, okazało się, że kontrofensywa Sił Zbrojnych Ukrainy zmieniła nie tylko sytuację na froncie, ale też zdynamizowała pozostałe poziomy, na których ten konflikt się rozgrywa. Wymusiło to na autorze zaktualizowanie analizowanego zjawiska. Artykuł kończy się konstatacją stwierdzającą, iż znajdujemy się w "okresie przejściowym", a nadchodząca zima może po raz kolejny zmienić sytuację obu stron w toczącej się wojnie.
The article discusses the main features of "solidarity of generations" concept. This approach is used in the analysis of the ageing process at the beginning of the XXI century as well as in designing of public policy. Essay introduces the basic concepts of generations and relationships between generations meaning. Article emphasizes that solidarity between generations is a social issue that requires the combined intervention of public, commercial and non-commercial bodies. Paper presents a conclusions from critical analysis of assumptions for the solidarity of generations included in the selected documents of civilizational project "Poland 2030. The Third Wave of Modernity."
Today, there is no doubt that the large-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops in February 2022 represents just another phase of the Russo-Ukrainian War that has lasted for nine years. There are many aspects to this confrontation. The consequences of the war will affect the future of the world order. It will include such aspects as security, formation of new political blocs, force interaction of political regimes, the choice of state-building models by the countries, the art of war, the role of civil society, and strengthening of the informational component in the confrontation between states and their alliances. Russia-Iran has already emerged as one such aggressive alliance. In the article, the authors explain the phenomenon of the infodemic and one of its structural elements, the "vaccinodemic". The COVID-19 pandemic became a vivid example of the global clash of actors in international relations that implement conflicting ideologies – democratic or authoritarian rule in the social and political life of their states – and realize such aspects in foreign policy. The authors assert that the current situation in Ukraine, namely, the open military Russian invasion and the further aggravation of the security crisis, primarily in the European region, are only the next phase of an ideological confrontation that could be observed during the response to the COVID-19 pandemic by humanity. Now, this confrontation continues in a more aggressive, conventional format. Manifestations of the infodemic and its unique form, the "vaccinodemic", captured the essence of the global confrontation, which will determine international processes for decades. Namely, Russia's fight between democracy and authoritarianism has acquired neo-totalitarian characteristics. This fight will determine, in addition to other social phenomena, the structure and content of the global information space. It is noted that authoritarian regimes have shown some success in addressing the pandemic, which may aggravate the rivalry between democracy and authoritarianism, as the former will have to prove its effectiveness and long-term advantages.
Obywatelskie nieuczestnictwo w życiu publicznym należy do najważniejszych problemów współczesnej Polski. Zjawisko to czyni wszystkie poko-lenia równymi, a przeciwstawienie się mu wymaga przełamania barier integracji międzypokoleniowej. Niniejsze opracowanie wskazuje, iż dążenie do spójności i stabilności systemu może opierać się na wykorzystaniu korzyści z różnicy wieku członków społeczeństwa. Wskazane zostały wymiary i poziomy poszukiwania rozwiązań jakościowych na rzecz integracji w warunkach kształtowania się w przestrzeni społecznej ładu rozproszonego oraz typy barier integracji między-pokoleniowej związane z procesem starzenia się społeczeństw i zjawiskiem dyskryminacji ze względu na wiek.

Brak zgody co do kształtu ustrojowego i przywództwa państwa konserwuje status quo i sprawia, że wyjście z impasu jest coraz trudniejsze. W artykule podjęto próbę analizy sytuacji politycznej Libii oraz czynników determinujących impas polityczny, którymi są – zdaniem autorki – przede wszystkim: współistnienie kilku ośrodków władzy, konflikty etniczne, aktywność ugrupowań zbrojnych (milicji), tworzonych zarówno przez wojskowych, jak i islamistów, a także słabość i brak jedności aktorów zewnętrznych, w tym ONZ, w wypracowywaniu kompromisu dotyczącego Libii. ; The Arab Spring in Libya took the form of a civil war, which led to the external military intervention and overthrowing the Muammar Qaddafi regime. Nearly seven years since the war broke out, the country has still remained in chaos. A lack of consensus regarding the form of political system and leadership in the country maintains the status quo and makes the current deadlock increasingly difficult to be broken. The article seeks to analyse the political landscape in Libya as well as the factors affecting the political impasse in the country, which, in the opinion of the author, comprised primarily of the coexistence of several power centres, ethnic conflicts, the activity of armed groups (militias) created both by military members and Islamists, and the weakness as well as the lack of unity in making a compromise on Libya among external actors, including the UN.

Modern warfare, including the Ukraine-Russia war, relies heavily on disinformation. Fake news on social media is an integral part of this. At the same time, each conflict is characterised by distinct communication specificities and in the context of the complex effects of fake news, questions arise about their specificity for a given conflict. The aim of the presented research was to answer the question of what the various fake news about the Russian-Ukrainian war disseminated in Polish-language social media have in common and what narrative they generate. The analysis covered the construction of the messages as well as their contexts: social, cultural, historical, and political. For this purpose, a three-stage analysis of ten fake news cases disseminated between March and September 2022 was conducted, applying a three-element analytical matrix. The research made it possible to identify the properties of fake news, generated narratives, and their possible effects.

The article analyzes the peculiarities of the conflict in Ukraine, its preconditions and geopolitical consequences. It provides the examples and numbers, which show the low level of trust to government institutions, law enforcement agencies, judicial system and a much higher level of trust to non-governmental organizations. It covers the issue of democracy condition or, to be more precise, the lack of democracy, which causes the society's tendency to protest. It is stated that the public's discontent was with the oligarchs' influence on the country, with the corruption on all the levels of social relations, with the pressure on small and medium enterprises, and ambiguity about the strategic course of the state's development (European Union, Customs Union). The article defines the issues connected with the beginning and reasons, which made the people go out to the Maidan. The most prevailing causes include the severe beating of the demonstrators on the Maidan overnight into November 30, repressions, Viktor Yanukovych's refusal to sign an EU association agreement, and the desire to change life in Ukraine. There was also a great wish to change the authorities in Ukraine. The article analyzes the Russian Federation's armed aggression against Ukraine, which became a long-term factor of influence on the Ukrainian political, economical, military and social reality. It is stated that due to the RF actions within 2014-2015, the system of global and regional security and the current system of international law have been deformed. Almost all international security assurances for Ukraine (the Budapest Memorandum, in particular) proved to be deprived of legal capacity in conditions when the aggressor is one of the guarantors – Russian Federation. It is demonstrated that the Russian invasion and seizure of the part of the Eastern-Ukrainian region, the Crimea became a direct challenge both to the European system of security and Ukraine. ; W artykule przeanalizowano сechy konfliktu na Ukrainie, jego uwarunkowania oraz konsekwencje geopolityczne. Autor podaje przykłady, dane, które wskazują na niski poziom zaufania do instytucji rządowych, sił bezpieczeństwa, wymiaru sprawiedliwości i znacznie wyższy poziom zaufania do instytucji pozarządowych. Rozważane jest pytanie o stan demokracji, a raczej jej braku, co tworzy w społeczeństwie tendencję do protestu. Przeanalizowano zbrojną agresję Rosji przeciwko Ukrainie, która stała się długoterminowym czynnikiem wpływającym na rzeczywistość polityczną, gospodarczą, wojskową i społeczną. Z powodu działań Federacji Rosyjskiej w latach 2014–2015 był zniekształcony system globalnego i regionalnego bezpieczeństwa oraz obecny system prawa międzynarodowego. Prawie wszystkie międzynarodowe gwarancje bezpieczeństwa dla Ukrainy (w tym w ramach Memorandum Budapesztańskiego) okazały się niezdolne w sytuacji, gdy agresorem został jeden z gwarantów – Federacja Rosyjska. Udowodniono, że rosyjska inwazja i zajęcie części wschodniego regionu Ukrainy oraz Krymu było bezpośrednim wyzwaniem dla bezpieczeństwa europejskiego i państwa ukraińskiego. ; Проаналізовано особливості конфлікту в Україні, його передумови та геополітичні наслідки. Окреслюються питання, пов'язані з початком і мотивами, що спонукали людей вийти на Майдан, серед яких найбільш поширеними виявилися: жорстоке побиття демонстрантів на Майдані у ніч на 30 листопада, репресії, відмова Віктора Януковича від підписання Угоди про асоціацію з Євросоюзом та прагнення змінити життя в Україні. Достатньо вираженими виявилися також прагнення змінити владу в Україні. Здійснено аналіз збройної агресії Російської Федерації проти України, яка стала довгостроковим чинником впливу на українську політичну, економічну, військову та соціальну реальність. Зазначено, що внаслідок дій РФ впродовж 2014–2015 рр. було деформовано систему глобальної та регіональної безпеки, а також чинну систему міжнародного права. Майже всі міжнародні гарантії безпеки для України (зокрема в межах Будапештського меморандуму) виявилися недієздатними в умовах, коли агресором виступив один із гарантів — Російська Федерація. Доведено, що російське вторгнення Ціна свободи: конфлікт в Україні та його геополітичні наслідки 99 та захоплення частини Східноукраїнського регіону, Криму, стало безпосереднім викликом і європейській системі безпеки, і українській державі.

Cholera is a deadly disease that has caused a worldwide phenomenon throughout history. Its imperative weapon, the Vibrio cholerae bacterium, has allowed cholera to seize control and wipe out a huge percentage of the human population. V. cholerae's toxins are the primary causes of cholera's lethal symptoms. The bacterium contains toxins that help it accomplish its job of invading the human system and defeating the body's powerful immune system. With its sibling bacterium Escherichia coli, V. cholerae has become one of the most dominant pathogens in the known world. V. cholerae's strategies in causing the infamous deadly diarrhea have been widely studied, from the irritation of the intestinal epithelium to the stimulation of capillary leakage, as well as the internal effects of the disease such as the Peyer's patches on the intestinal walls. Overall, the Vibrio cholera bacterium has made cholera a tough disease to overcome, and because of its deadly virulence factors, cholera has become one of the most frightening diseases a human body could ever encounter. Vibrio cholerae is a Gram-negative, comma-shaped bacterium. Some strains of V. cholerae cause the disease cholera. V. cholerae is facultatively anaerobic and has a flagellum at one cell pole. V. cholerae was first isolated as the cause of cholera by Italian anatomist Filippo Pacini in 1854, but his discovery was not widely known until Robert Koch, working independently 30 years later, publicized the knowledge and the means of fighting the disease. V. cholerae pathogenicity genes code for proteins directly or indirectly involved in the virulence of the bacteria. During infection, V. cholerae secretes cholera toxin, a protein that causes profuse, watery diarrhea. Colonization of the small intestine also requires the toxin coregulated pilus (TCP), a thin, flexible, filamentous appendage on the surface of bacterial cells.
