This study examines flood risk propensity of communities in Edu Local GovernmentArea of Kwara state, with a view to classifying the area into risk zones for better and proper management of the environment for the sustainable living of the people. The three administrative districts of Edu Local Government area were identified as pragmatic areas for the study. In each of the districts, Geographical Information System data capture and analytical tool were used to harvest and treat the data for subsequent interpretation. The coordinates of various locations of interest were taken, contour and slope maps of the area were generated to produce flood risk map for the area. The results revealed three distinct risk zones; High, Moderate, and low-risk areas. Three settlements fall into a low-risk area with elevations above 196 m, two settlements located at between 110 m and 196 m are within moderate risk zone and six settlements in High-risk area with elevations below 110 m. This paper concludes that the people of the riverine communities in Edu LGA are culturally attached to the environment. The study, therefore, recommends public enlightenment on the trend in climate and weather about the flood and its implications, environmental education and then resettlement of these communities. When and where resettlement scheme proves very difficult due to strong cultural attachment, flood prevention mechanism via engineering construction such as dykes, embankments and ditches should be adopted.

[EN] The agribusiness topics ofcolored cottonand fashion do not have any practical scientific literature published on the subject,only when the theme is treated primarily as the aim of sustainability. Colored and agroecological cotton, despite the limitation in color,could become an industrial production with less environmental, impact using less water. The aim of this study was to present the colored fiber and organic cotton, produced by small farmers in the Northeast region of Brazil, as an alternative product to promote sustainability in cotton agribusiness and the textile industry, and to identify the lack of scientific studies related to the theme. Surveys were carried out on available national literature and international database publications on the topic, and the results of research on toxic products used for the production of white cotton and textile industry were presented. Governmental incentives through funding agencies to farmers engaged in this production are suggested, in order to improve production and distribution. В статье раскрыты основные этапы и эволюция исследований в области устойчивости развития экономических субъектов, определена взаимосвязь устойчивого развития и изменения основных элементов бизнес-процессов организации, выявлены особенности устойчивости развития экономических субъектов разного уровня и их взаимозависимость. Проанализированы основные подходы к формированию дефиниции устойчивости в политэкономии, системном анализе и в прикладной экономике, сформулированы общие черты и их объективные отличия. Основное внимание в статье уделено характеристике устойчивости организации как первичного звена национального хозяйства. Проведено сопоставление основных характеристик и факторов обеспечения устойчивости, включая согласованность стратегических изменений различных элементов производства и бизнес-процессов, мониторинг изменений, происходящих в ближайшем и отдаленном окружении экономического субъекта, ориентацию на лучшие практики партнеров по бизнесу, анализ поддержки долгосрочных инноваций текущими изменениями, обеспечивающими устранение потерь и устойчивое снижение затрат на основе ресурсосберегающего развития. Особое внимание уделено интеграционным факторам обеспечения устойчивости. Обосновано, что для обеспечения устойчивости необходимы согласованные изменения, позволяющие получать синергетический эффект. ; The article describes the major stages and the evolution of the research in the sphere of sustainability of economic entities (units), defines the relationship between sustainable development and changes in the key elements of an organization's business processes, identifies the peculiarities of sustainable development of economic units belonging to different levels and their interdependence. The author analyses the basic approaches to giving definitions of sustainability in political economy, system analysis and in applied economics, singles out their similarities and objective differences. The article mainly focuses on defining sustainability ofa business entity as a primary element of national economy. It compares major features and factors of ensuring the sustainability including the consistency of strategic changes in different elements of production and business processes, monitoring of changes in close and distant environment of an economic entity, using the best practices of business partners, the analysis of support of long-term innovations by current changes which ensure the elimination of losses and sustainable cost reduction on the basis of resource-efficient development. Special emphasis is put on integration factors of ensuring the sustainability. The author proves that to ensure the sustainability consistent changes resulting in a synergistic effect are required.

Women have the capability to accelerate the economic growth of the country, if their participation in the workforce is increased. Census (2011) data has revealed that there has been a continuing fall in labour force participation rate of women from 33.3 per cent to 26.5 per cent in rural areas. Mainstreaming gender roles by skilling women in non-traditional roles and increasing gender sensitivity in the workplace will have a catalytic effect on productivity and be a smart economic decision. Rural women are key agents for achieving the transformational economic, environmental and social changes required for sustainable development. Empowering them is crucial not only to the well-being of individual families & rural communities, but also to overall economic productivity given women's large presence in the agricultural work force. To restore their rightful & dignified status, the present government has initiated empowerment programmes for rural women that provide a solid foundation to nurture the inner strength & self-esteem for the rural women.

Despite the high level of political engagement and the wide range of organizations involved in restoration projects from local to global levels, beyond some success stories, restoration is not happening at scale. To address this issue, three CGIAR Research Programs (CRPs) – Forests, Trees and Agroforestry (FTA); Policies, Institutions and Markets (PIM) and Water, Land and Ecosystems (WLE) – decided to bring together their expertise in a joint stocktaking of CGIAR work on restoration. This publication illustrates with concrete examples the powerful contribution of forest and landscape restoration to the achievement of most, if not all the 17 sustainable development goals. It can be used to support the design of future restoration activities, programs and projects. This study dealt with the legislative system of basic sanitation in the city of Manaus. From this approach we sought to develop the research from the parameters of the Brazilian legislation related to the basic sanitation sector, as well as to identify the important conducts on sustainable development. Understanding the importance of the subject in evidence, it is worth mentioning that Brazil has a considerable volume of freshwater in the world, and likewise, the Amazon has in its watershed much of that water in its rivers. Therefore, the objective of this investigation was to analyze the legislative system of basic sanitation of the city of Manaus - Amazonas, in order to understand the actions developed by this system. For the construction of this study, the methodology adopted was the bibliographic research with a qualitative approach, in order to reach the proposed objectives. Regarding the legislation that deals with basic sanitation, many advances in the sector were obtained. Most of the population does not have access to basic sanitation services, even if provided for by Brazilian law.
