This article presents the general overview of the 13th edition of the international academic conference "Philosophy: The New Generation" that took place at the National University of "Kyiv-Mohyla Academy" (NaUKMA) in 2018. The conference was founded in 2006 as an initiative of NaUKMA's philosophy students supported by the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies. For the following years, it has become an important annual event for the Ukrainian philosophical community. In 2018, the topic of the conference was "History of Philosophy and histories of philosophies". The conference included the following sections: "The Approaches to the History of Philosophy"; "History of Ideas, Notions, Concepts"; "Epistemological Issues in the History of Philosophy"; "Receptions of the History of Philosophy"; "History of Philosophy and Gender Studies"; and "Oriental Studies". In addition, two lectures were delivered during the conference: "Subjective Notes from the Recent History of Ukrainian Academic Philosophy of Science" (lecturer: Prof. Dr. Volodymyr Kuznetsov) and "The Vicious Circle of Sexual Politics' Triumphalism" (lecturer: Dr. Kateryna Honcharenko). Also, two panel discussions took place at the conference: "What to Do with the Philosophical Education" and "The Problems of Philosophical Research in the East". Although the participants of the conference have covered a large number of topics in their reports, several tendencies can be identified as prevailing. The biggest percentage of reports was connected with a methodology called History of ideas, notions, and concepts, while the discussions related to oriental and gender studies unfolded in the light of critique of Eurocentrism and Androcentrism respectively. The article researches the phenomenon of so-called philosophia togata examining such issues as the emergence of Roman philosophy during one of the most exciting periods in Roman history. It considers the themes being a subject for study for a long time: the processes of social-psychological and cultural changes in Rome in Hellenistic age, the significance and extent of Greek influence, the new Roman life-styles and the reception of the philosophical doctrines of Greek thinkers such as Stoics, Epicureans and other philosophical schools. To my opinion, it is a subject on which there are still important and interesting questions to be asked and many worthwhile things to be said. An attempt is made to combine history of philosophy with history of culture and to place Roman philosophy and philosophers in a cultural context of Hellenization of Latin west and Roman response to this challenge. Focusing on topics such as Roman attitudes towards Greek culture, images of Greeks in Italy, crises of traditional values of mores maiorum, Roman intelligentsia, the article considers practices of philosophy in Rome as phenomenon of restricted identification or participation as a result of negative assessment of philosophy as otium in Roman society. An emphasis is made on the paradoxical status of philosophy in the Roman way of life and in the contradictions of playing the role of a Roman philosopher. The traditional roman mentality was scandalized by advent of Greek philosophers to Italy and strongly opposed to the first attempts of transplantation of philosophy into social organism of civitas. Roman authorities viewed Greek visitors and their intellectual shows, foreign ideas in general as a serious danger for mores maiorum and a kind of so-called nova flagitia. The expulsion of philosophers followed several times during the 2nd century B.C. It took hundreds of years to overcome the general prejudice and to legalize philosophy in Rome not only as tolerated otium cum dignitate but needful and commonly respected medicina animae. As we can see, wars against philosophy took place from time to time not only in republican period, but also during Early Empire, under the principate regime. So, the process of appropriation of philosophy by Roman cultural elite was slow, often frustrated and essentially limited being localized in private life and non-formal contacts in social microgroups (amical circles). Its territory was Roman otium (leisure as a part of traditional Roman way of life) and it met negative public and official assessment that cannot be ignored by aristocratic elite in this so-called shame culture. The representatives and enthusiasts of philosophy (for example Cicero) had to justify their philosophical conversion. Therefore the Roman soul was divided in its own reactions towards alien philosophy and felt uneasiness in practicing it. The conduct of its Roman adepts is often very different and depends on various social contexts and situations. We consider the antagonism between Roman philhellenism and traditionalism in general not as a struggle of two cultural (or even political) parties but as an inner conflict of two elements of divided Roman psyche which determines the phenomenon of restricted participation in philosophical pursuit during the period of Roman cultural history viewed here.
The Department of Philosophy of Culture began its work in 1984. In the 1990s, the changing social conditions for the existence of philosophical thought with the acquisition of independence led to the abandonment of the Marxist paradigm of theoretical monopoly on determining the principles and direction of humanitarian thinking. This fundamentally removed the issue of overcoming social reductionism and opened the possibility of new priorities for the study of cultural reality and human understanding. Since the mid-1990s, the research program of the department has been constantly transformed: there is a transition from understanding the meaning and categorical forms of cultural reality to the analysis of various projections of socio-cultural progress. The research topics are enriched by the study of the problem of national existence, the phenomenon of politics, globalization and civilizational choice, civil society, cultural policy, the phenomenon of violence etc. The theoretical primacy of the ontological approach to culture is preserved, which involves understanding culture as a way of human existence. However, the methodological tools used in research on specific topics are more focused on the specifics of the subject and the experience of its analysis in modern world philosophical thought.
The article is presented in the form of an interview with French philosophersAndré Masse-Stamberger and Olga Panchenko. It discusses the problems ofpractical philosophy in some communicational forms as café-philo, cinemaphilo, open conferences, philosophical consulting. The particularity ofphilosophical education in French universities are also covered in the paper.During the conversation, it was found that interdisciplinary connections ofphilosophy and psychology produce controversial opinions and require a morethorough elaboration of adjacent definitions; at the same time, it was pointed outthat Oriental philosophy (and spiritual practices which are related to it) is gainingpopularity in modern Europe which gives example of a possible symbiosis ofthese scientific fields. The nature and key objectives of a philosophical café as anextra-academic place of philosophical practice has been discovered. Its distinctivefeatures are an existence of a professional moderator, a strict conversationaltiming, a free choice of topics, an interactive discussion and a freedom of speech ina form of an equitable polylogue, a summary and an online report of activity. TheCafé-philo is also a process of a collegial search for the truth and an instrumentof communication between intellectuals which creates a premise for further cocreationand cooperation. The opening of these discourses of practical philosophyfor a wide audience demonstrates a high level of tolerance and democracy of thetheir members. The article identifies the philosophical aspect of masterpieces of the worldcinematography that is embedded in the basis of a cinema-philo discourse in whichthe problems illustrated in a film are extrapolated on the topical problems of ourtime during its after-watching discussion. The particularity of the French educative projects of practical philosophy forchildren such as philosophical ateliers, meetings and discussions following theideas of Bridgit Labbe and Oscar Brenifier have been found. Some features of the French education at universities are the following: a zeroplagiarism tolerance in student texts, the priority of a deepened learning of primarysources, a multiplicity of programs, step-by-step course' validation and a growth ofa teaching in form of discussion. The main inference of the interview is the idea of a trending of practicalphilosophy in the existential and civilizational choice of humanity.
Cinematography as a space of intercultural dialogue is one of frequent research objects for various specialists. This article touches upon the theme of Orientalism in cinematographic compositions. At the beginning of the 1970s Japan began to occupy a leading position in Pacific region, which affected live-action cinematography. The purpose of that research is to study forming and transforming of Japan's characteristic image in European fictional films (1971 – 1994). The study uses an imagology approach – researching the appearance of one nation in another nation's history and culture. European films of the period depict Japan as either hostile and barbaric or culturally developed country. Whereas the image of Japan as a barbaric country was promoted by topics related to feudal Japan, the image of Japan as a country of culture was presented by applied arts and scientific and technical progress. The author came to following conclusion. European director's most often referred to the theme of Japan's participation in the Second World War as well as to the Japanese feudal culture. The general plots of the films were military operations and last days before Japanese capitulation. Well-established images of barbaric and picturesque country became eclectic, and the samurai-codex was presented in a new way, particularly in philosophy of sword and death. Colonial fictional film discourse has been converted and gained a symbolic form. The important part of this was the representation of Japanese art and science. Japan as a country of future became one of the prevailing new images.
Attention is focused on the issues and understanding of the essence of modern life science and awareness of its importance as a primary element – the basis of the innovation system of the society. Implemented a philosophical analysis of the concept of "innovation", defined the historical and philosophical background of the formation of the main functions of science is characterized by the relationship of philosophy, science and innovation, as a direct result of the logical development of science. The urgency due to the specified topics design processes in the scientific, social, cultural, economic and political life of Ukraine and the world. It was found that in the new century science enters a new scientific worldview, formed under the influence of modern scientific and technological revolution and dramatically affect the change of reality and of man himself. Thanks to the creativity of the possibility of any progress, based can only be innovation. Creativity - is creation of new models and implement them through functional activity in material things or in physical models. Formation of a new socio-economic and political-legal reality is in direct proportion to the extent to which these processes are imbued strategy of innovation and synthesizing creative people how they will rule the principles of humanism, healthy criticism, social freedom, pluralism, high moral responsibility.
It is argued in this paper that demands for critical thinking (CT) will be determined by needs both of political superstructure and productive forces of a competitive society in the 21st century. Phenomenon of CT has to be studied and understood as one of the essential elements of some more complex entities – higher-order thinking, core of work-related skills, etc. CT skill need to be developed in connection with relevant cognitive and affective dispositions. It is pointed out, therefore, that it is more correct not to be limited by teaching CT but to educate a critical thinker, whose CT skill is relied on base of relevant dispositions. The process of educating a critical thinker, or rather – a person who will have CT, for instance, as element of a set of the core work-related skills, should continue during the kindergarten, school and university education at least. It is substantiated that under conditions of Ukrainian higher education it is expediently to use two interconnected courses in the process of CT education: logic with elements of critical thinking – in frame of the bachelor's degree studies – and critical thinking on base of logic – in frame of the master's degree studies. 1. The article analyzes the existential problems of life, death and immortality in Ukrainian folklore (based on Ukrainian fairy tales). In the corpus of Ukrainian folk tales there are widely used topics, which in European philosophy and literature are called "tragic foundations of human existence" - awareness of the inevitability of death in the earthly existence of man, the search for forms of individual immortality. In Ukrainian fairy tales there is a dual attitude of the individual to the inevitability of his own death. On the one hand, there is the motive of reconciliation with the fate of human destiny, and in order to relieve the painful feeling of one's own finitude, the instruction on the higher meaning of the existence of death is forced. Death is justified because it appears as the prevention of the absurdity of infinite human existence or as an obstacle to the debauchery of the whims and dangerous wishes of the individual, or ultimately as the punishment of people for violating the commandments of the Supreme Spiritual Creature. In other words, death appears in a number of fairy tales as the expression of the highest world justice. At the same time, death mostly appears in fairy tales as an objectified pagan idea of Death as a concrete living creature with its whims, sympathies and weaknesses. The problem of finding ways to achieve immortality is traced in Ukrainian fairy tales in two ways. Most often, this search unfolds in the plane of the victory of the hero of the fairy tale over death, or through the imprisonment of death, or through the marriage of the hero to a divine being. This is a very common motive in the tales around the world. Less common is the motive of achieving immortality through the moral self-improvement of the hero, his compliance to the moral commandments of God. This is already a reflection in fairy tales of the influence of Christianity on the spiritual world of the ancestors of modern Ukrainians.

The specificity of the methods of human geographical survey of political activism in the region is that it should have an interdisciplinary. This gives able to use methodological potential not only geography, but also other related natural and social sciences – political science, sociology, history, philosophy, economics, and international relations. The general set of methods to obtain information on human geographical studies of political activity in the region offer subdivided into philosophical, general and concretely scientific methods. By philosophical methods we refer historical, objectivity, consistency and integrity, causality, forecasting principles. Methods of systems analysis, abstraction and generalization, predictive modeling, comparison and others belong to the scientific methods of research. Particularly important and informative study is a block of concretely scientific methods. The top priority for any scientific study is a preliminary analysis of documentary sources and other materials on selected topics. Qualitative and quantitative characteristics of existing information helps us uncover methods discourse-analysis, content- analysis and event-analysis. Are valuable and sociological methods, including questionnaires. Political geographical research is impossible without mapping method (badges, cartograms, cartographical chart et al.) and other modes of visual representation of the data. Topical are mathematical and statistical techniques, including cluster and factor distributions. Thus, the problem of efficient selection methods for the study of political activism in the region as a socio-geographic area wide enough explored and requires a thorough scientific analysis. Our research is devoted to analysis of neototalitarianism. We base our study on the new non-classic culturological methodology. When we say about "new totalitarianism" we mean radicalization of postmodern society through wars and ideologies. Classic totalitarianism is a phenomenon that is sufficiently studied in classical humanities. The main features of totalitarianism are already defined. These are: cult leader and one-party political system. These features are not inherent in the new totalitarianism. Researchers difficult to diagnose it because of its diffuse nature. The new totalitarianism investigates specific to global culture and processes of informatization. We interpret it as cultural sense that formed the collective unconscious. We refer discourse Real, which is protected under the Symbolic - a system of ideological narratives. We need a new methodology to study the new totalitarianism. This methodology must be differed from classical social philosophy and psychology. This methodology can provide Cultural science. We mean: cultural studies (Birmingham and the Montreal school), structural and cultural psychoanalysis of the pathography of movie by J. Lacan and S. Zizek, post-structuralism, media theory and post-industrial society, known as the "alter-globalization", "glokalizm" "antiglobalization". These concepts help to show: a new totalitarian mentality formed in a conflict of cultures as virtual manipulation strategy. The aim of our study is the semantic diagnosing of classical and non-classical philosophical symptoms of a new totalitarianism (neototalitarianism) in interdisciplinary cultural discourse, which includes non-classical ideas of psychoanalysis and social philosophy. Implementation objective defines the following research objectives: to identify the classic signs of a new totalitarianism, which brings him to the totalitarian tendencies of past eras based on previous cultural reflection of the totalitarian regimes of the twentieth century; to identify and disclose non-classical features of the neototalitarianism through our own experience based on postmodern culture; to demonstrate, how the semantic identifying aspects of classical and non-classical features of neo-totalitarian ideology do in the radical rightwing version of the new totalitarianism (nationalist, chauvinist, Nazi).Based on the synthesis of these concepts, we have solved the traditional and new ideological lines of new totalitarianism as an expression of the desire for domination. Traditional characteristics: integrity, binary, xenophobia, Quasi-religiosity, humor negation / knowledge and paternalism. The newest features: fetishization of power as spectacle within the absolute transparency of private life (Synoptykon); terrorism virtual global village, and self-censorship "internal topics"; ideological kitsch and elitist populism. A clear manifestation of right radical nationalism is based on the romantic concept of gestalt. Inherent to it reduction identities, homogenization and isolationism contrary semiosfery global society.
In the article was given the N. Berdyaev's interpretation of Marxism transformation specifics in historical practice of Russian society. The relevance of this study lies in the analyzing of undeniable importance: how Western ideological doctrines are transformed by non-Western societies in accordance with their value orientations, internal attitudes, and needs. The sources for this work writing were, first of all, the numerous works of N. Berdyaev himself, devoted to the problems of history and historical eschatology, personal freedom, and the spiritual determination of social revolutions. The subject of analysis was also the political and philosophical "Silver Age" works, devoted to revolutionary topics of the late XIX – early XX century. A number of provisions from domestic and foreign works on the problems of revolutionary modernity and "post-modernity" were also attracted. This article also includes author's thoughts published on pages of a number of domestic scientific journals.N. Berdyaev defined the Russian revolution as a revolution of unique conditions and unique content. And only "very changed, transformed Marxism" could respond to these "unique conditions and contents". The main claim of Leninism was to become the new activist Marxist philosophy of the " proletarian revolutions era". He relied on the thesis of Marx and Engels that a "jump from the realm of necessity to the realm of freedom" would necessarily occur.Lenin and the Russian Communists managed to convince themselves that for them this time of the "big jump" had already come. They felt within themselves the strength and ability to change the whole world with the help of "extreme" revolutionary activity,. We observe something similar later on with the example of the Maoist "big jump".According to this super-activist intention, Bolshevik theory is trying to give a new interpretation to dialectical materialism. The main category here is the category of self-movement. The properties of the spirit are transferred to matter – freedom, activity, mind. The activity of the proletariat forms the economy, processes of the environment in his own way. This is the philosophy of activism and titanism which have to inherent to the proletarian mind.Orthodox and at the same time activist Soviet philosophy, Berdyaev defined as the philosophy of social titanism. Philosophical work should be "built into" labor, in social construction, should serve it. Absolute truth is recognized only in activity, in struggle, in labor efforts. The titanic exaltation of revolutionary will presupposes the existence of a real world.Leninism also claimed a new understanding of freedom. Here, freedom is not understood as freedom of choice, but as an active change of life, as an act that is carried out not by an individual, but by a social person, after he made a choice. Berdyaev indicates that the individual does not have freedom from the social collective, he does not have a personal conscience and personal consciousness. The freedom of the individual lies in exceptional fitness for the collective. But if the personality has adapted and merged with the collective, then he receives tremendous freedom and tremendous power in relation to the rest of the world.Communist moral consciousness is torn by the contradiction between the attitude to the past and the present, on the one hand, and attitude to the future, on the other. There is no one humanity yet. There are classes of exploiters and exploited. Therefore, there can be no single morality. But in the future, after the world communist revolution, when the classes disappear, and a single humanity would be formed – then an integral universal human morality will arise. According to N. Berdyaev, Russian communism, if wee look at it deeper, is a deformation of the Russian idea, which took ugly forms in the atmosphere of World War I and social decay. The general historical conclusion of Berdyaev is quite pessimistic. It is very consonant with our political experience: "A revolutionary myth always contains an unconscious deception, and at the same time it is impossible without a revolutionary myth . In this sense, it will never be realized within the framework of this world, in the kingdom of Caesar".
