Justice has multiple facets. This volume examines retributive justice as well as transactional justice, and places special emphasis on distributive justice. Die Arbeit versucht, verschiedene politische Dimensionen des Anerkennungsbegriffs herauszuarbeiten. Aus der kritischen Analyse einschlägiger Anerkennungstheorien und in Abgrenzung zu anderen normativen Leitbegriffen wie Toleranz und Respekt wird eine vorläufige Definition entwickelt, die als Ausgangspunkt für die weitere Ausdifferenzierung dient. Hierfür wird nach den Adressaten, Quellen und Mitteln der Anerkennung gefragt, um eine Matrix politischer Anerkennungsdimensionen zu erstellen, die mögliche Gerechtigkeitsdefizite in demokratischen Gesellschaften in den Fokus rücken kann. Anhand von illustrierenden Beispielen aus der politischen Praxis der Bundesrepublik Deutschland wird argumentiert, dass der Anerkennungsbegriff einerseits eine angemessene sprachliche Einordnung für Gerechtigkeitsfragen darstellt und andererseits eine multidimensionale Perspektive ermöglicht, aus der Kompensationsmöglichkeiten für entstehende Anerkennungslücken erkennbar werden. Die Arbeit leistet damit einen Beitrag zur gerechtigkeitstheoretischen Analyse bestehender demokratischer Ordnungen. »The Concept of Recognition and Its Political Meaning« In asking about the receivers, sources and means of recognition the book distinguishes different political dimensions of the concept in order to discover justice deficits in democratic societies. Referencing illustrating examples from Germany's political landscape it is argued that the concept of recognition can serve as analytical tool to identify mechanisms of compensation within the developed matrix. Anhand von illustrierenden Beispielen aus der politischen Praxis der Bundesrepublik Deutschland wird argumentiert, dass der Anerkennungsbegriff dimensionsübergreifend angewandt werden kann, um Kompensationsmöglichkeiten für entstehende Anerkennungslücken zu erkennen. Martin Correll studierte Politikwissenschaft und Philosophie in Erlangen und an der Duke University in Durham (USA). Seit 2013 ist er wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Lehrstuhl für Politische Theorie, Philosophie und Ideengeschichte an der Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg. Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte innerhalb der politischen Theorie umfassen beispielsweise Anerkennungstheorien, zeitgenössische normative Demokratietheorien und moderne Vertragstheorien.

Die an der Wohlfahrt aller Bürger orientierte »Staatskunst«, welche von Platon als die »königliche Kunst« angesehen wird, setzt sich für ihn aus der Trias von Wissen, Tugend im Sinne von »Gutsein« und Erziehung zusammen. Dabei gehen Metaphysik, Ethik und Politik eine untrennbare Verbindung ein, da für ihn die Höchste Idee des Guten, des wahrhaft Seienden, ein unbedingt gegenseitiges Verhältnis zwischen Staat und Individuum begründet. Das heißt, das Gute für den Staat verkörpert zugleich das Gute für den Einzelnen; denn es ist einer Einzelperson nicht möglich, vollkommen gerecht zu sein, wofern der Staat es nicht gleichergestalt selbst ist. Unweigerlich wird man sich fragen, ob die heutigen Politiker diesem Anspruch tatsächlich gerecht werden. Phänomene wie der Aufstieg von politischen »Amateuren« wie Bodybuildern, Filmschauspielern und Geschäftsleuten zu hohen und höchsten Staatsämtern lassen in diesem Kontext den Terminus »Staatskunst« als recht schillernd erscheinen. Die Untersuchung versucht Antworten auf die Frage zu finden, wie es zu der völligen Abkehr des platonischen Staatskunstkonzepts, in welchem Praxis und Theorie noch unscheidbar als eins gedacht wurden, und zu einer in unseren Tagen vorherrschenden »Staatsverwaltung« nach fast ausschließlich wirtschaftlichen Gesichtspunkten als Erfolgsbemessungsgrundlage kam. Sonderheitlich die Gesichtspunkte, wie die »Staatskunst« nach Platon erlangbar sei und ob Politik im Sinne von »Staatskunst« lehr- und damit erlernbar ist, stehen dabei im Fokus der Betrachtung. »The Knowledge of Statecraft in the Context of Plato's Political Philosophy and Its Reception History« Plato's »royal art« or skillful »statesmanship«, intended for the benefit of citizens, comprises of a triad: knowledge, education and virtue (which equivalents to »goodness« for Plato). According to Plato, for a reciprocal relationship between a state and an individual to occur, metaphysics, ethics and politics must closely intertwine to give rise to an ultimate good or a »truly existing being«. Indeed, a state's »goodness« intrinsically exudes »goodness« to individuals; in turn accounting for just individuals. It follows therefore, that individuals' righteousness derives from that of the state's. Today however, such pertinent assertions are in active conflict with the emergence of layman politicians whose governing may be seen as far from being »royal art«. Accordingly, the discourse hereinafter seeks to address the question of how this »royal art« and its triad – a theory of governance once considered indivisible from the practice of thereof, have come to be discarded by current public administrations in favour of economic indicators. Could Plato's »royal art« and »statesmanship« be acquired, and if so, how could this craft be taught? Die Untersuchung versucht Antworten auf die Frage zu finden, wie es zu der völligen Abkehr des platonischen Staatskunstkonzepts, in welchem Wissen, Tugend im Sinne von »Gutsein« und Erziehung zusammenfielen sowie Praxis und Theorie noch unscheidbar als eins gedacht wurden, hin zu einer heutigentags vorherrschenden »Staatsverwaltung« nach fast ausschließlich wirtschaftlichen Gesichtspunkten als Erfolgsbemessungsgrundlage kam. Charles Philippe Graf Dijon de Monteton studierte an der Universität Heidelberg Politikwissenschaft, Mittlere und Neue Geschichte sowie Judaistik an der Hochschule für Jüdische Studien. Nach erfolgtem Abschluss 2005 war er als Lehrbeauftragter und wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Institut für Politische Wissenschaft der Universität Heidelberg tätig. Dort erfolgte 2013 die Promotion im Fach Geschichte. Zwei Jahre später wurde er daselbst in Politikwissenschaft promoviert. Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte liegen im Bereich der politischen Philosophie und der Sozial- und Regionalgeschichte, vorzüglich mit Bezug auf den Südwesten Frankreichs.

The paper presents the findings of two studies on the current transformations of philosophy of history. The paper claims that those transformations outline a research field more appropriately defined as historical knowledge studies, and focused on the conditions of possibility, operation, structure, institutional praxis, critical potential and political relevance of our knowledge about history. The study provides an outline of the emergence of new problems and topics in philosophy of history based on an analysis of the contents of a prominent journal crucial to the development of the field, History and Theory, which has hosted many important debates on historical knowledge since the 1960s and whose editorial policy is recognised for its pluralism. This account of the transformation of the research field is supplemented by the findings of a study of the institutional localisation and geographic distribution of university courses in philosophy of history.
