Este artigo examina as traduções do Clube do Livro entre 1943 e 1976, concentrando-se nas maneiras pelas quais as traduções foram alteradas para encaixar-se dentro das normas do Clube do Livro: referências sexuais, religosas, políticas e escatológicas foram cortadas e houve uma homogeneização do registro da linguagem. ; This article examines the translations of the Clube do Livro between 1943 and 1976, concentrating on the ways in which the translations were altered to fit into the norms of the Clube do Livro: sexual, religious, political and scatological references were cut, and there was a homogenization of the language register.
In this essay, it is assumed the lack of articulation between translation policies and linguistic policies makes some initiatives conducted in our country invisible. The purpose of this essay is to present and briefly dialogue with different elements that traverse translation and interpretative processes and which constitute topics of interest for translation policies. For this reflection, the contributions of Baker (2006a, 2006b), Tymoczko (2007) and Panda (2013) are presented, with discussions on translation and interpretation, their roles and the policies adopted by different governments. From this debate, an articulated dialogue between translation policies and language policies is suggested. We consider this connection can be a pathway to understand that any action around the language, whether economic, social, cultural or linguistic, generates translation effects. ; Este ensayo parte de la premisa de que la falta de articulación entre políticas de traducción y políticas lingüísticas que no dan visibilidad a algunas iniciativas realizadas en nuestro país. La propuesta es presentar y dialogar de forma sucinta con diferentes elementos que atraviesan los procesos de traducción e interpretativos y que constituyen temas de interés de las políticas de traducción. Para esta reflexión, se recuperan las contribuciones de Baker (2006a, 2006b), Tymoczko (2007) y Panda (2013), las cuales presentan reflexiones acerca de la traducción y la interpretación, el papel que desempeñan y las políticas adoptadas por diversos gobiernos. A partir de este debate, sugerimos un diálogo articulado entre políticas de traducción y políticas lingüísticas. This article presents an investigation of narratives by deaf authors intended to an audience of young people and adults, which circulate in Brazil through books written in Portuguese. Considering the study of ten books (MÜLLER, 2012) of different genres, which have in common the constitution of a biographical space, our aim is to develop a discursive and documental analysis, in order to answer how and what cultural deaf marks are produced by these authors in their narratives. The investigation of the empirical material, which deals with difficulties experienced which are also expressed in writing, allows making evident the main deaf cultural marks: the narrative of experience of the self, and deaf identity as difference. It is worth stressing that narrating in a second language, in this case, Portuguese, used by deaf users of Língua Brasileira de Sinais (LIBRAS - Brazilian Sign Language), allows translating the narratives into other cultures, legitimating the deaf discourse and increasing the potential of the deaf culture through the visibility and cultural diffusion allowed by these works. The books, here understood also as cultural artifacts, are a resource in a territory of political-pedagogical claims and negotiations. In connection with Cultural Studies in Education and with Deaf Studies, the present work continues and consolidates studies in deaf culture and education; it also problematizes power relations involved in the construction of meanings, particularly in the field of education, here understood as a process of conduction of subjects' social and individual life. This investigation is part of the studies conducted within the project Produção, Circulação e Consumo da Cultura Surda Brasileira Production, Circulation, and Consumption of Brazilan Deaf Culture. ; Este artigo apresenta uma investigação sobre narrativas de autoria surda destinadas ao público juvenil e adulto, as quais circulam no Brasil através de livros escritos em português. Considerando a pesquisa em dez livros (MÜLLER, 2012), de diferentes gêneros textuais, que se aproximam pela constituição do espaço biográfico, objetiva-se desenvolver uma análise discursiva e documental, buscando responder como e que marcas culturais surdas são produzidas pelos autores em suas narrativas. A investigação do material empírico, que tematiza as dificuldades vivenciadas, também expressas através da escrita, possibilita evidenciar as principais marcas culturais surdas: a narrativa da experiência de si e a identidade surda como uma diferença. Cabe salientar que narrar-se em uma segunda língua, neste caso, em português, por surdos usuários de Língua Brasileira de Sinais (Libras), possibilita traduzir-se em outras culturas, legitimando o discurso surdo e potencializando a sua cultura através da visibilidade e da difusão cultural possibilitada por essas obras. Os livros, aqui também entendidos como artefatos culturais, constituem-se recurso em um território de reivindicações e de negociações político-pedagógicas. Vinculado aos Estudos Culturais em Educação e aos Estudos Surdos, este trabalho dá continuidade a e consolida pesquisas sobre cultura surda e educação; também problematiza relações de poder envolvidas na construção de significados, sobretudo no campo da educação, aqui entendida como um processo de condução da vida social e individual dos sujeitos. In the most violent and uncertain times of its recent history, Brazil is revisiting the origins of its racial frictions: the slave trade. "Histórias afro-atlânticas" (Afro-Atlantic Histories) is a massive, 380-work survey of African, Latin American, and European art from the past five centuries, chronicling the largest diaspora in modern history. Nearly half of all Africans captured by slave traders were brought to Brazil, from the time the Portuguese arrived, in the 16th century, all the way through the 21st century. The exhibition is a sequel to "Histórias mestiças" (Mestizo Histories), staged four years ago at the Instituto Tomie Ohtake, the cultural center that is also cohosting the current exhibition. Its scope is far-reaching, with pieces by colonial-era Dutch master Albert Eckhout and modern greats Théodore Géricault and Paul Cézanne, as well as contemporary art-world darlings Glenn Ligon, Kara Walker, and Hank Willis Thomas
This month marks a milestone in my career as a freelance translator specialized in scientific and academic studies: 2 years as a collaborator and more than 24 consecutive editions being available to hundreds of authors published by REUOL, since we also have special numbers. However, instead of listing quantitative aspects, I regard as fundamental focusing, in this editorial, qualitative aspects of publishing Nursing studies. In the current Brazilian scenario, besides being autonomous with regard to the other health sciences, Nursing shows to be eclectic. Boundaries between theory and practice don't apply to the multiple approaches of caring for developed and described by the researchers, who aim to understand the social life of people while developing situated solutions to deal with their most varied health problems. In this sense, our country has proved to be a field of research second to none, an extremely rich source of original scientific formulations. Because of this, the many faces of health education stand out, since the dialogue and testimony overlap the formulation of generalist knowledge guided by "rules" and "scientific neutrality", so that the caregiver doesn't distance her/himself from the person being cared for and doesn't prevent her/himself from learning both with this person and for this person. Research involving human beings doesn't imply an alleged separation between "researcher" and "object" ‒ and the pages of REUOL are extremely representative of this ethics. Bridging language gaps from this broad perspective involves understanding that REUOL constitutes a medium for disseminating and preserving the construction of knowledge by the Nursing science not only within the reach of Ibero-American countries, but worldwide. Its target public will only grow and become more demanding with the increasing global digital inclusion. One may say that the priority of collaboration by experts in the trilingual publishing process of REUOL consists in assisting the authors to cross the finish line with a full awareness that "those who know, do; those who understand, teach". Nursing professionals are the multidisciplinary health team's members who spend more time along with the patient ‒ and the refusal to regard the know-how as an end in itself stands out in their writings. It's essential to have this idea in mind to translate them properly: more than rewritten in a foreign language, the papers should be critically read and reread. Saying "know thyself" in this context involves a number of parameters. Many of them are technical in nature, aimed at the systematization of REUOL's publishing standards, something which enables its inclusion in databases along with top-quality journals and a continued evolution of its target public, both as readers and authors. The Nursing experience has been expressed in a unique way in the democratic space constituted by this journal and, thus, more than scientific, its translation of the Brazilian Nursing has proved to be increasingly humanized. It's with a great pleasure that I wish you all good readings! ; Este mês estabelece um marco em minha atuação como tradutor freelance especializado em estudos científicos e acadêmicos: 2 anos de colaboração e mais de 24 edições consecutivas ao dispor de centenas de autores publicados pela REUOL, uma vez que também contamos com números especiais. Entretanto, em vez de listar aspectos quantitativos, considero fundamental enfocar, neste editorial, aspectos qualitativos da publicação de estudos de Enfermagem. No atual cenário brasileiro, além de autônoma em relação às demais ciências da saúde, a Enfermagem se mostra eclética. Limites entre teoria e prática não se aplicam às múltiplas abordagens do cuidar desenvolvidas e descritas pelos pesquisadores, que almejam entender a vida social das pessoas ao passo que desenvolvem soluções situadas para lidar com seus mais diversos problemas de saúde. Nesse sentido, nosso país tem-se mostrado um campo de pesquisa insuperável, uma fonte extremamente rica de formulações científicas originais. Por conta disso, as várias faces da educação em saúde se destacam, uma vez que o diálogo e o testemunho sobrepõem-se à formulação de conhecimentos generalistas pautados por "regras" e "neutralidade científica", de modo que o ser que cuida não se distancie do ser cuidado e não se furte a aprender tanto com ele como para ele. A pesquisa envolvendo seres humanos não implica uma suposta separação entre "pesquisador" e "objeto" ‒ e as páginas da REUOL são extremamente representativas dessa ética. Preencher lacunas entre idiomas sob essa ampla perspectiva implica a compreensão de que a REUOL constitui meio para a difusão e a preservação da construção de conhecimentos da ciência da Enfermagem não só no âmbito dos países ibero-americanos, mas no mundo inteiro. Seu público-alvo só tende a crescer e tornar-se mais exigente com o avanço da inclusão digital global. Pode-se dizer que a prioridade da colaboração de especialistas no processo de publicação trilíngue da REUOL consiste em auxiliar os autores a cruzar a linha de chegada com plena consciência de que "quem sabe, faz; quem entende, ensina". Os profissionais de enfermagem são os membros da equipe multidisciplinar de saúde que mais tempo passam junto ao paciente ‒ e a recusa em ver o saber fazer como um fim em si destaca-se em seus escritos. É primordial ter essa ideia em mente para traduzi-los de modo adequado: mais do que reescritos em um idioma estrangeiro, os artigos devem ser lidos e relidos com espírito crítico. Dizer "conhece-te a ti mesmo" nesse contexto envolve uma série de parâmetros. Muitos deles são de natureza técnica, voltados à sistematização das normas de publicação da REUOL, algo que possibilita sua inclusão em bases de dados com os periódicos da mais alta qualidade e a evolução contínua de seu público-alvo, tanto na posição de leitores como de autores. A vivência da Enfermagem se expressa de modo singular no espaço democrático constituído por esta revista e, assim, mais do que científica, sua tradução da Enfermagem brasileira tem-se mostrado cada vez mais humanizada. É com grande satisfação que desejo a todos ótimas leituras!
The objective of the article is to discuss the results of research carried out jointly with students of the Degree of Letters and the Bachelor's Degree in Translation, on the translations of Brazilian literature in the contexts of Germany, Spain, England, United States and France. A transversal look on the circulation of Brazilian works in these different spaces showed the existence of some regularities with respect to the authors and the most translated works, as well as publishers and literary agencies, revealing how certain principles of economic, political and cultural nature act on the flow of translations in the international literary space. The focus of attention was on the role of publishers as intermediaries who act in a decisive way in the process of selection, presentation and introduction of the translated work in the reception context. From the theoretical point of view, the study is inscribed within the perspective of the Sociology of translation developed notably by Gisèle Sapiro, Johan Heilbron and Pascale Casanova, in the wake of the thought of the sociologist Pierre Bourdieu. ; O objetivo do artigo é discutir os resultados de pesquisa realizada em conjunto com alunos dos cursos de Licenciatura em Letras e do Bacharelado em Tradução, sobre as traduções da literatura brasileira nos contextos da Alemanha, Espanha, Inglaterra, Estados Unidos e França. Um olhar transversal sobre a circulação das obras brasileiras nesses diferentes espaços evidenciou a existência de algumas regularidades no que diz respeito aos autores e obras mais traduzidas, assim como editoras e agências literárias, revelando como atuam certos princípios de natureza econômica, política e cultural sobre o fluxo das traduções no espaço literário internacional. O foco de atenção recaiu sobre o papel das editoras como intermediárias que atuam de forma determinante no processo de seleção, apresentação e introdução da obra traduzida no espaço de recepção. Do ponto de vista teórico, o estudo se inscreve dentro da perspectiva da Sociologia da tradução desenvolvida notadamente por Gisèle Sapiro, Johan Heilbron e Pascale Casanova, na esteira do pensamento do sociólogo Pierre Bourdieu.
L'entretien s'est déroulé par vidéo-conférence le 16 juillet 2020 en pleine pandémie du Covid-19. La conversation commence, justement, par des considérations sur ce moment actuel vécu dans le monde entier et ses répercussions dans l'enseignement ainsi que dans les relations sociales et intersubjectives. Alexis Nouss nous raconte son travail au sein de l'association AGIR et dénonce les politiques actuelles en France relatives à l'accueil des migrants, notamment par rapport à l'OFPRA. Em meio à categoria profissional dos professores, o texto interroga o que nos leva a educar e a prosseguir educando; qual é o motor político e a alegria subjetiva da nossa profissão; qual é a força de trabalho que traz vitalidade às nossas existências? Desde a filosofia da diferença, e como resultado de uma pesquisa de teor ensaístico-factual, posiciona-se na perspectiva nietzschiana da vontade de potência, constituída por problemáticas acerca da especificidade da disposição e do impulso de uma docência afirmativa, autoral e criadora. Com o método do jogo de dados, mostra, em suas relações, um currículo tradutor e uma didática da tradução, como processos transcriadores da civilização, das culturas e de nós próprios. ; Amid the professors' professional category, the text questions what leads us to educate and to continue educating; what is the political motor and the subjective joy of our profession; what is the work energy that brings vitality to our existences? From the philosophy of difference, and as a result of a research of essayistic-factual content, it is positioned in a Nietzschean perspective of the will to power, consisting of problems about the specificity of the disposition and the impulse of an affirmative, authorial and creative teaching. With the dice game method, it shows, in its relations, a translating curriculum and a didactics of translation, as processes for transcreating civilization, cultures, and ourselves.
This essay begins with a question that is simple, yet at the same time difficult to answer: What would we have before us today if we were to translate Marx and Engels' 1842 Communist Manifesto, written in 1842, into the present? Beyond translation from one language into another, this paper is, simultaneously, a provocation and an invitation to think about the translation of one time into another and of one political experience into another. The political translation of Marx and Engels' manifesto, a translation in which the original would become hardly recognizable in the present day, could be found encoded in a document written by Subcomandante Marcos in 1997: "The Fourth World War Has Begun", a kind of Zapatista Manifesto. Thus, after reviewing and problematizing the first translations of the Communist Manifesto, Subcomandante Marcos' text is proposed as one of its best and most current translations. My essay ends by offering a possible translation of what Marx and Engels defined in their own time as proletarian struggle: the spectral politics of the disposable.
