Il protezionismo dell'amministrazione Trump ha un doppio scopo. Da una parte, direzionare la domanda dei residenti verso prodotti nazionali (Buy American) per contrastare l'aumento di risparmio che potrebbe accompagnare l'enorme taglio delle tasse dello scorso anno (equivalenza ricardiana). Dall'altra, ridurre il deficit commerciale USA, soprattutto con Cina e India. Tutto questo ha però bisogno di una politica monetaria che continui ad essere accomodante. La Fed dovrebbe mantenere bassi tassi di interesse limitando l'effetto dei dazi sui prezzi interni con un dollaro svalutato. Si tratta di una pericolosa politica di stabilizzazione basata non solamente su basse aspettative di inflazione, ma anche su ritorsioni limitate dei partner commerciali. Un quadro internazionale non molto stabile.

The election of Donald Trump can be examined in the context of the rise of authoritarian populist, nationalist, and anti-globalist movements throughout the world due to neoliberal policies, job outsourcing, and the influx of immigrants. Unlike preceded presidents, Trump had no previous political or military experience; instead, he popped out from the business world and entertainment culture. The paper's endeavour is twofold: first, to trace the evolution of the economy from Mercantilism to Trumponomics, which is a mixture of mercantilism globally and neoliberal flavoured with classical crony capitalism of Dickens' Bounderby domestically to appease his voters and not to upset his wealthy friends. The second is to draw a comparison between Donald Trump and his counterpart Josiah Bounderby, a stark example of capitalism. The paper will not only trace his ascension to the very pinnacle of world power as the president of the United States but also his fall, testing the allegations of the clown prince of American politics and whether or not he betrayed his anti-globalist followers in pursuing his and big corporates interests. Like his counterpart, Mr Bounderby, who built his image on his rags-to-riches fairy tale, Trump built his own as a man of deals. While the former left no progeny and his fortune was whittled down by the court, the latter was proved to be the worst deal-maker ever. He did more harm than good and produced nothing but a faceless economy and a nation bitterly divided.

This volume examines the impact of the Trump presidency on development aid. It starts out by describing the rise of national populism, the political landscape and the reasons for rejection of the political establishment, both under Trump and internationally. Next, it gives a historical-political overview of development aid in the post WW-II era and discusses the dominant Washington Consensus doctrine and its failure. It then provides a critique of the Official Development Assistance (ODA) discourse and reviews the political economy of ODA, the discourse, and the conditionalities that are barriers to socio-economic development. The final chapters explore the question of Trumponomics as an alternative to the global neoliberal ODA, and the potential impact of Trumponomics? on ODA. The book concludes with thoughts on the potential future directions for ODA within the?ideals? of Trumponomics and national populism.

Uses illustrations and infographics to explain such vital economic issues as the minimum wage, taxes, and healthcare, advocating against the policies of global austerity, right-wing populism, and Trumponomics.
