Towards an archaeology of the Visual Studies ; Idolâtrie, idéologie, iconologie. Vers une archéologie des Visual studies
Loin to be reduced to the question of relationship between text and image and logocentrism, the novel study of the relationship between Visual Studies and iconology shows that any logos of and on images have a theoretical but also practical, ideological or even idolâtric dimension. Based on a genealogy of iconology, from Philostrate to Cesare Ripa, from Luther to Bacon, from Jesuit to W. J. T. Mitchell, an archaeology of Visual Studies shows that, successively knowing by image and knowing the image, iconology goes beyond the artistic sphere from the outset to place the question of the meaning and power of images in the rhetorical, religious and political field.

A lack of media art in Iceland at the turn of last century, whether electronic or digital, initiated this research. The deficiency encouraged the author to undertake analysis of the history of art in Iceland, at a time when it was becoming independent from Denmark. This period is characterized by the nation's quest of identity, where the definition of cultural particularity dominated the discourse on art. By placing the art of the past in the context of the colony, and modern art in that of the struggle for independence, it is possible to show that the lack of media arts can be explained by the postcolonial situation after the war. Finally, it shows how the isolation of artists was broken in this context. To conclude it examines how the political and cultural institutions have reacted to the globalization of electronic and digital technology that has contributed to change the artistic creation and practices.

This research proposes a reflection on the relevance of a "art -action" current, based on an analysis of the acts for the art, characterized as "off limits", through a use of the physical presence, such as origin and support of the visual art, begun in the 1920s by Marcel Duchamp, and declined throughout the twentieth century with artistic groups as Dada, the Happening, the Viennese Actionnism, or the Body Art.We study here, through artists performers selected around the singular practices of Albrecht Becker, Ron Athey and Lukas Zpira, the possible limits of artistic acts, staging in extreme way, through performances considered shocking, aggressive, including piercings, tattoos, daring an art of faintness sometimes, being played of conventions, the taboos and the social-cultural codes in place. Thus we see whether it is necessary, today, to still speak about artistic acts political, militant, after the golden age of the Seventies, through a choice among many new esthetics of the human body, successively "hero, subject, material, object, victim, screen" of this transgressive acting-art. Our will is to understand the ambiguity contained in the representation, and all the shown symbolic system, compared to a first intention which is disintegration both thematic and formal in the plastic arts. The discussion is thus about the authenticity and the survival of these artistic extremists and transgressive practices, treating the concept of identity or even the genetics, the discussion being also about their avant-gardist position in the history of "the art for art" brought by the modernity, position to be reconsidered in a society called post-modern.Do this "body- hacking" bring us then towards a future virtual human being, a single existence in the digital universes? Is the body lost or, paradoxically the ultimate recourse, saved by these painful and radical modifications?

The evolution of the contemporary art in Iran : visual art : painting ; L'évolution de l'art contemporain en Iran : l'art plastique : la peinture
In this research project, I have analyzed the current contemporary Iranian painting and its evolution composed of periods of oppression in one hand and periods of progression on the other hand. This analyze is based on historical, political, social and cultural events in Iran. As long as one can remember, this country and its people has been invaded and exploited by foreign countries and even local governments which at all time, they have used resources and cultural treasure of Iran. For all these reasons, a national philosophy has taken place in the country, which pushes Iranian to think less about the future by trying to appreciate the present. The young generation of Iranian artist knows that it has to consider and to use its own roots and culture to get the opportunity to join the world-wide art.

International audience ; Visual Artists and Witchcraft: Magic as a Creative Tool for Political Struggle. Many contemporary artists call upon the iconography of witchcraft, rewriting its past stories, exploring current ones, or actualizing practices and gestures (Camille Ducellier, Tatiana Karl Pez, Myriam Mihindou). Beyond folklore and esotericism, the witch is for these artists a figure of female emancipation with powerful subversive potential. Since the creation of the W.I.T.C.H. and the birth of anti-nuclear movements in the United States in the 1970s, women have emerged as producers of rituals capable of generating collective power from different perspectives of struggle (feminist, ecologist, anti-capitalist). This militant projection is now resurfacing with force, particularly through the first gatherings of Witch Bloc Paris. Artists are also reviving the tradition of ritual, designing actions whose objective is to bring politics and magic together. In this paper, we will question how artists reinvest ritual practices associated with the imagination of witchcraft, while proposing new forms of creative resistance.
