A recent article by Nanette Funk on the legacy of official women's organisations in socialist countries questions the concept of an agency (agentivity) and questions some current research trends. He suggests that an insufficiently critical analysis of women who have collaborated with communist power and held positions in official women's organisations tends to blur the lives and fighting of those who have fought for democracy. The purpose of this article is to describe the complexity of agentivity through a micro-study on the re-establishment of its name. This issue takes on particular significance for a woman who has a long political career. When Júlia Földi, born in Budapest in 1914, wife László Rajk (1909-1949), one of the leaders of the Hungarian Communist Party, took her name and her life changed ever. Through her marriage, she gained a high position in the leadership of the Communist Women's Organisation (the Hungarian Women's Democratic Alliance or MNDSZ). Her arrest followed that of her husband and she was entitled to a five-year prison sentence as leader of the same organisation, a price which no other activist paid for her political action. Milan Kundera described resistance against communism as a fight against forgotten, thanks to the power of memory. Throughout the history of Hungary in the 20th century, Júlia Rajk was the one who, perhaps most forcefully, pleaded against the official forms of forgotten. Based upon an ethnographic fieldwork conducted in two units located within the Paris suburbs, this article examines how institutions transform in practice women's bodies and psyches, as it promotes new ways of perceiving selves, bodies, and sexualities. Birth planning and abortion support, which are feminist projects (discursively and practically speaking), increase female agency and reinforce women's control over themselves, their bodies, and their reproductive capacities. These actions are highly political, as they promote a process of self-reform through care and support. However, this work upon self and others relies on a normative definition of female identity, which does not only emancipate: It also produces new discriminatory dynamics and enforces racial hierarchies, which – in the French context – raise question of nationalism and citizenship, and about the way these stakes currently frame reproductory and sexual issues. ; En France, les Centres de Planification et d'Education Familiale proposent des consultations médicales et un accompagnement à la contraception et à l'IVG. The main purpose of this article is to investigate the production of individual gender-based identity. Several modes of identification will be taken into account (ranging from the personal decision on the embodied life to the biopolitical techniques of modern and contemporary government). The underlying interrogation of the article concerns the political capacity of gender identity, i.e. the capacity of the acts of selfdefinition to change the dominant language and to articulate a political frame free of any discrimination, pathologization or criminalization.
Between the birth of the communist party of Tunisia in 1921 and its lasting ban in 1963, women were involved in defending its slogans. From a gender reading attentive to agency, this work sheds light on the little-known trajectories of the 183 women whose traces could be found. Reconstructed thanks to the prosopography - or collective biography - theses life paths are reinserted into the long history of the communist party in order to bring out the activities carried out and the commitments experienced. The aim is to examine, through these trajectories and in the wider context of women's activism, the weight of gender and male domination in order to question the possibility of a feminine involvement to a party egalitarian but little concerned wit 'women' as a political category. This research crosses administrative archives - notably surveillance archives - with the few documents of the communist party and its press, and with memorial archives composed of published testimonies, interviews now preserved in Tunis, but also private archives and interviews conducted with five women activists and with the children of activists met between France and Tunisia. Although these 183 women played roles and occupied positions that were partly dependent on gender and male domination, they fought, sometimes scratched gender roles or, on the contrary, used them to make their demands; their engagement had an impact on the personal and subjective upheavals expercienced by some of them. Background : Fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD) are the leading cause of non-genetic intellectual disability. The damage caused, while completely preventable, is irreversible and requires lifelong support. The general practitioner (GP) appears to have an important role in preventing FASD. However, the Regional Health Agency reports shortcomings in tracking alcohol consumption, especially among pregnant women, and a lack of interest in the trainings offered on FASD.Method : A qualitative research was carried out by conducting semi-structured individual interviews with GPs. The participants were selected randomly or following the snowball sampling method. GPs who worked only in unscheduled care services were excluded. After transcribing the interviews, a verbatim analysis was performed according to the principles of grounded theory.Results : Twenty interviews were conducted out between November and December 2020 by two investigators. GPs expressed unease in approaching alcohol and in managing excessive drinking behaviors. They had an imprecise theoretical knowledge and a lack of practical experience with FASD. They also showed little knowledge of the care pathway. Both the patients and GPs were dealing with a taboo when talking about women's alcohol consumption. Conflicting government policies were pointed out as FASD prevention initiatives were overshadowed by alcohol promotion campaigns.Conclusion : GPs should interact openly, without judgement, with women and couples using early detection and short-term intervention. GP should also be better trained on FASD and have a clearer understanding of the care pathway. ; Introduction : Les troubles du spectre de l'alcoolisation fœtale (TSAF) représentent la première cause de retard mental d'origine non génétique. L'échantillonnage et le recrutement des MG a été réalisé de manière aléatoire et complété par « effet boule de neige ». Etaient exclus les MG qui exerçaient en structure de soins non programmés exclusifs. Après retranscription, l'analyse des verbatim a été réalisée selon les principes de la théorisation ancrée.Résultats : Vingt entretiens ont été réalisés entre novembre et décembre 2020 par deux enquêteurs. Les MG exprimaient des difficultés dans l'abord même de l'alcool et dans la prise en charge d'une consommation excessive. Ils avaient des connaissances théoriques imprécises sur les TSAF et un manque d'expérience pratique vis-à-vis des TSAF. Il persistait un tabou concernant l'alcool au féminin, tant chez la patiente que chez le MG. Les politiques contradictoires de l'Etat étaient pointées du doigt : campagnes de prévention des TSAF timides par rapport à la promotion de l'alcool.Conclusion : Inciter les MG à ouvrir le dialogue avec la femme et le couple sans tabou par un repérage précoce et une intervention brève. Der Begriff "Verbotener Umgang" brandmarkte Kontakte zwischen deutschen Zivilisten und französischen Kriegsgefangenen, die sich während des Zweiten Weltkriegs auf dem Reichsgebiet aufhielten. Kontakte mit Kriegsgefangenen wurden bereits vor ihrer Ankunft durch die Verordnung zum Verbotenen Umgang mit Kriegsgefangenen untersagt, sowohl aus Gründen der militärischen Sicherheit als auch im Namen der nationalsozialistischen Rassenideologie. Anhand eines umfangreichen Korpus von Gerichtsakten, die sich auf dieses Delikt beziehen, nähert sich die Dissertation den verbotenen Beziehungen, von denen Zehntausende eingegangen wurden. Sie zeigt die Kluft zwischen Vorschrift und Realität und spiegelt die Schwierigkeit der Kontrolle der Zivilbevölkerung in Konfliktzeiten und die Handlungsspielräume der Akteure wider.Die Verwendung dieses dokumentarischen Materials hat sich auch als sehr reichhaltig für die Rekonstruktion des Alltagslebens einer Gesellschaft im Krieg erwiesen, eines Alltags weitab von der Frontlinie. Ein Anliegen der vorliegenden Studie ist es daher, nicht nur die Funktionsweise des deutschen Justizsystems aufzudecken und die praktizierten Anhörungsmethoden zu beleuchten, sondern auch aus der Perspektive einer Geschichte der Geschlechterverhältnisse die Rolle von Sexualität im Kriegskontext und die funktionalen Zuschreibungen an die Frauenkörper zu analysieren. Diese verbotenen Beziehungen sind auch eine Gelegenheit, die Haltung der Kriegsgefangenen und ihr Verhältnis zum ihnen zugewiesenen Feindstatus zu hinterfragen. Die Wahrnehmung dieser Beziehungen und die Erinnerung daran wird über einen langen Zeitraum beleuchtet, insbesondere indem den Kindern aus den binationalen Beziehungen, den "Kindern des Krieges", das Wort erteilt wird. Mehr als siebzig Jahre nach den Ereignissen legen sie Zeugnis ab. Ausgehend von diesen Quellen und dank der Beiträge der Mikrogeschichte eröffnet diese Studie eine andere Herangehensweise an den Krieg aus der Perspektive der Intimität und der Liebesgefühle. Sie verteidigt die These, dass die verbotenen Beziehungen zu einer anderen Geschichtsschreibung der deutsch-französischen Beziehungen im Herzen des Zweiten Weltkriegs beigetragen haben. Eine Geschichtsschreibung, für deren Verständnis eine historisch-anthropologische Perspektive einzunehmen ist und die Verhältnisse der Individuen zur Sexualität und zu Verwandtschaftsstrukturen hinterfragen werden müssen. ; The term « forbidden relationships » refers to contacts between German civilians and French prisoners of war present on the territory of the Reich during the Second World War. Forbidden by the decree of Verbotener Umgang mit Kriegsgefangenen from November 1939 , such contacts were banned both for military security reasons and in the name of National Socialist racial ideology. Thanks to a substantial corpus of judicial files related to this crime, the thesis analyses the tens of thousands of relationships that have taken place. It shows the gap between "the norm" and reality during this period. It reflects the difficulty in controlling the civilian population during times of conflict and the agency of the actors. The use of this documentary material has also proven to be beneficial in reconstructing the daily life of a society at war, a slice of ordinary life, played out far from the front line. Although not all forbidden relationships were of a romantic and/or sexual nature, they are of particular concern to the authorities. One of the interests of this study is therefore not only to shed light on the workings of the German legal system by revealing the methods used in hearings. It also explores the history of gender relations in the context of war from different perspectives. The role of sexuality is analysed, and the function assigned to women's bodies. Prohibited relationships were also an opportunity to question the attitudes of the captives and their relationship with the "enemy" status been assigned. The significance of these relationships has been questioned over a long period of time, with the most compelling being the testimonies of the children born to these mixed couples. These "children of war", who more than seventy years after the events have shared their experiences. With the help of these different trajectories, and thanks to the contributions of micro history, this study contributes to approaching war in a different way, through a story of intimacy and love. It defends the hypothesis that forbidden relations contributed to the writing of a different history, one of Franco-German relations at the heart of the Second World War. In order for this to be understood requires a historical anthropological approach and the questioning of relationships to sexuality and the structures of kinship. ; L'expression « relations interdites » désigne les contacts établis entre civiles allemandes et prisonniers de guerre français présents sur le territoire du Reich pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Interdits par le décret du Verbotener Umgang mit Kriegsgefangenen adopté avant même l'arrivée des captifs, ces contacts sont proscrits à la fois pour des raisons de sécurité militaire et au nom de l'idéologie raciale national-socialiste. Grâce à un corpus conséquent de dossiers judiciaires se rapportant à ce délit, la thèse analyse les dizaines de milliers de relations de ce type qui ont eu lieu. Elle montre l'écart entre la norme et les pratiques, reflétant la difficulté de contrôler la population civile en période de conflit et l'agentivité des acteurs. L'exploitation de ce matériau documentaire s'est révélée également très riche pour reconstruire le quotidien d'une société en guerre, un ordinaire qui se joue loin du front. Si toutes les relations interdites ne sont pas de nature amoureuse et /ou sexuelle, ces dernières préoccupent pourtant particulièrement les autorités. L'un des intérêts de cette étude est ainsi non seulement d'éclairer le fonctionnement de l'appareil judiciaire allemand en révélant les méthodes d'auditions pratiquées, mais aussi, dans une perspective d'histoire des rapports genrés en contexte guerrier, d'analyser le rôle de la sexualité et la fonction dévolue au corps des femmes. Les relations interdites sont également l'occasion de questionner l'attitude des captifs et le rapport qu'ils entretiennent avec le statut d'ennemi qui leur est assigné. La portée mémorielle de ces relations est interrogée dans le temps long, en donnant notamment la parole aux enfants nés de ces couples mixtes, « enfants de la guerre », qui plus de soixante-dix ans après les événements, témoignent. A l'aide de ces différentes trajectoires, et grâce aux apports de la microhistoire, cette étude contribue à aborder la guerre autrement, par le biais d'une histoire de l'intime et du sentiment amoureux. Elle défend l'hypothèse que les relations interdites ont contribué à l'écriture d'une autre histoire des rapports franco-allemands au cœur du Second Conflit mondial, qui, pour être saisie, oblige à se situer dans une démarche d'anthropologie historique et à interroger le rapport des individus à la sexualité et aux structures de la parenté.
