; The article discusses the controversial problems of policy towards Yugoslavia before and during the initial period of the Second World War, including the problem of continuity of the British foreign policy. The authors conduct a comparative analysis of the positions of modern foreign and domestic researchers and evaluate their arguments on the basis of archival materials and other sources on the topic. The official documents revealed the British foreign policy' goals and diplomatic methods as there were typical for the position of N. Chamberlain' and W Churchill' Governments in relation to Yugoslavia in the framework of the Balkans policy of Great Britain as a whole. To answer the question about its continuity the authors identify the special methods the British diplomacy used from 1938 to 1941. A comprehensive study of the problem gave rise to conclusions about the correlation of domestic political, war-strategic and international factors that influenced British diplomatic activity and the position of the Yugoslav leadership, as well as to determine the reasons for the failure of the policy of "neutralization" of the Balkans and its consequences for the further course of the Second World War.

; The article discusses the prerequisites that allowed Slovenia to secede from the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in the context of its general disintegration of the federation and announce the creation of a new independent state on June 25, 1991. Particular attention is paid to the state and readiness of Slovenian society for decisive actions to the secession of the Socialist Republic of Slovenia from the federation. In addition to constraints, favorable conditions have been revealed for gaining Slovenian independence, unique to Slovenia. It was revealed that Slovenia was able to gain independence relatively quickly and bloodlessly due to the ethnic monogenicity of the population, economic superiority over other subjects of the federation, developed cultural and political opposition within the Republic, the geopolitical position of the Socialist Republic of Slovenia and various steps taken by the local Slovenian administration to prepare to secession from Yugoslavia.

= The article gives insight into the peculiarities of the relations between the states of Yugoslavia and Albania during the period of emergence of the Soviet bloc in Eastern and Southern Eastern Europe and into the role of these states in the USSR foreign policy in the first post-war years. The inclusion of Yugoslavia and Albania into the USSR's sphere of influence was accompanied by considerable Soviet economic aid to these Balkan countries. But excessive independence of the Yugoslavia leadership in pursuing their foreign political interests led to the Soviet-Yugoslav conflict in 1948. The severing of relations between the USSR and Albania, on the one hand and the USSR and Yugoslavia, on the other resulted in the change of the USSR foreign policy. The USSR established strict control over the foreign political activities of all countries of popular democracies, while Yugoslavia stayed for some time outside the Soviet sphere of influence.
