How does body knowledge develop? How does it influence one's own actions and experiences? This book offers a first attempt to classify the relations of body and biographical process experience. For this purpose, narrative interviews with professional dance practitioners were evaluated with a modified social science process analysis, for which a 'lived body heuristic' was developed. The 'lived body heuristic' opens up fundamental research-practical connections.
Online participant videos (OPV) are audiovisual participant accounts of social situations and events. OPV circulate in social media as well as online video culture, following their particular technical, medial, and social logics. Furthermore, depending on genre, OPV frequently document and highlight participants' own interpretations of social life. OPV thus presents itself as a complex, yet promising kind of data for interpretative video analysis. In our teaching research projects, we have worked extensively with this data type, especially in the context of sociology of political protest events. Based on these experiences, we present heuristic and methodical approaches to the analysis of OPV. In particular, we demonstrate that the analytic potential of OPV lies most notably within interpretative sociology of affect.
Jakie współcześnie znaczenie ma rewolucja francuska? Uwagi na temat kantowskiej interpretacji signum rememorativum . Artykuł jest próbą eksplikacji pojęcia politycznego entuzjazmu, za pomocą którego Immanuel Kant wyraził swój stosunek do rewolucji francuskiej, a także ukazania konsekwencji przedstawionej przezeń interpretacji dla współczesnych dyskusji nad dziedzictwem owego przełomowego wydarzenia. Część pierwsza zawiera krótką rekonstrukcję głównych linii interpretacyjnych opisujących znaczenie rewolucji francuskiej dla współczesnej demokracji. Kolejne części tekstu (2, 3, 4, 5, 6) rozjaśniają dwuznaczny stosunek Kanta do rewolucji francuskiej. ; This article is an attempt to explicate the notion of political enthusiasm through which Immanuel Kant expressed his attitude to the French Revolution and to show the consequences of his interpretation for contemporary debates on the heritage of this founding event. The first section contains a brief reconstruction of major interpretative lines, which describe today the importance of the French Revolution for contemporary democracy. The next sections (2, 3, 4, 5, 6) clarify the ambiguous attitude of Kant to the French Revolution, which from the moral perspective was unequivocally condemned by him, and from the aesthetic and political perspective – evaluated very favorably. The main concept is here a category of enthusiasm. Enthusiasm as a purely rational affect, as a collectively experienced, irrational euphoria, functions in the Kant's deliberations an important heuristic function, because it allows him to justify the positive meaning of the revolution, which at the level of empirical facts turned out to be an escalation of violence. The key to understanding this ambivalence is the category of publicity ( Publizität ) and the specific understanding of the concept of politics. The last section will show the consequences that stem from his position for contemporary debates on the legitimation crisis of liberal democracy.

; To which topics planning studies attach attention is subject to dynamic change. Issues such as sustainability, socially integrative cities or metropolitan regions played prominent roles at different times. Against this background, it is noteworthy that within planning studies so far only few studies focus on the fundamental question of why certain topics arise at a certain time in planning research and later subside again. There are no models that could explain why a planning topic receives particular attention. While there is no doubt that topics as those mentioned above are fundamental for planning thought, we cannot explain the timing and causation of their emergence on top of the agenda. This article explores the question of how attention is constituted and developed for a topic in planning studies. Building on political science and communication sociology approaches, an issue-attention cycle is conceptualized as the socially determined development process of an issue. Using the cases of "climate change" and "shrinking cities", issue-attention cycles in planning studies are examined exemplarily on the basis of a phase heuristic. Taking a sociology of science perspective, orientations of actions by planning scholars are revealed. A network analysis identifies and explores key actors, their publications, and crucial events for the development of both topics. In addition, a lexicometric discourse analysis examines contents and conceptual contexts. Finally, a qualitative survey explores how and why scientists pick certain topics as part of their individual research biographies. The article concludes with a plea to consider issue-attention cycles as an integral part of planning studies since they strongly affect the prioritization of problems, aims and policies within the scientific realm and beyond.
This thesis contributes to the understanding of consumer credit decisions from a psychological point of view by investigating the influence of cognitive processes on perceived credit attractiveness and credit choice. A total of seven empirical lab studies conducted with university students in 2014 and 2015 can be grouped into three connected streams: The first stream focuses on the question whether the level of mental abstraction influences preferences for specific credit aspects (e.g., a low annual percentage rate). Participants' choice among several credit alternatives with full information on all credit aspects was not affected by construal level. Nor did construal level influence what participants perceived to be important when making up their mind about credit offers in general. The second stream focuses on the question how mental abstraction and the 0 in 0%-interest credits interact to influence credit evaluation as well as the choice of the product that is to be financed. Contrary to assumptions based on previous findings, participants did not react particularly positive towards 0%-interest credit offers in general, nor did mental abstraction influence their reaction. Also, the other way round, additional findings suggest that the prominent display of the number 0 in 0%-interest credit advertisement does not induce a higher level of mental abstraction and consequently does not influence the type of product to be financed on credit. The third stream focuses on the question whether consumers are more willing to take up a 0%-interest credit when they process information in a more intuitive and heuristic way. The idea behind this is that the central feature of a 0%-interest rate may divert attention from less advantageous aspects of such credits (e.g., an expensive mandatory residual debt insurance). The findings from the studies reject this hypothesis. Furthermore, it was investigated whether intended hedonic product use, as opposed to intended utilitarian product use, leads to higher credit attractiveness under intuitive information processing because of a carry-over effect of positive affect from anticipated use situations. No indication of such an interaction was found in the respective study. The thesis offers detailed interpretation of the results with a focus on possible explanations for the absence of significant effects. Despite the absence of significant results, the thesis makes a valuable contribution to the respective area of research. It highlights the need for research on 0%-interest credit offers as a new form of credit that is likely to accelerate the trend of growing debt accumulation. Also, the thesis is the first to apply two broadly successful theories – construal level theory and System 1 / 2 information processing – to aspects of decision-making in a consumer credit context. The results even more so show how little is known about how consumers process information when making such important decisions. The synthesis of previous findings reported in the theory section of this thesis furthermore points out the alarmingly low levels of credit understanding in the general population. This highlights the need for governments, and consumer protection institutions to invest more effort into the development and application of measures targeted to improve credit understanding and money management in a broader sense.
Diskussion der Forschungsergebnisse hinsichtlich ihrer theoretischen Anschlussfähigkeit und praktischen Anwendbarkeit ; In the debate on European development processes, cross-border networking and cooperation are gaining ever greater significance. The German-Czech border region, for example, is at-tributed a particular key role as a "place of encounter" (AGEG 2008: 15). The present disser-tation makes reference to Castells' theory of the network society (cf. 2001, 2003a, 2003b), in which the inclusion and exclusion of individuals, groups and areas are inevitable conse-quences. Social closure/exclusion (cf. Weber 1972 [1921]) permits conclusions to be drawn in the contexts of the sociology of inequality and professional theory regarding the functional characterisation of social work in the German-Czech border region. Language diversity, cul-tural differences, distinct legal and education systems as well as economic disparities affects directly cross-border interaction, processes of appropriation of the social space, and inclusion or exclusion. This heuristic framework is pertinent to the German-Czech border region networks as subject of the present empirical study. Guided by the grounded theory methodology (cf. Strauss/Corbin 1996), the model of 'German-Czech border region networks as subjectively constructed spaces of opportunity and reality' was developed systematically on the basis of data from 19 interviews with German and Czech experts. The actors in social work construct their understandings of networks against the background of subjective definitions of relevance. By comparing their subjective constructs in terms of action orientation and the determining reasons behind the social actions, the following pattern emerge and find expression in the profiles relatively strict organisation [relativ straffe Or-ganisation] [relativně pevná organizace], stable partnership [stabile Partnerschaft] [stabilní partnerství], overall work of art [Gesamtkunstwerk] [společné umělecké dílo] and friendship [Freundschaft] [přátelství]. These four in vivo codes provide a succinct indication of the dif-ferent constructs of the network actors. Founded on a diversity of morphological, qualitative, normative and functional attributes of German-Czech border region networks, the data permit recognition of differentiated processes of subjective sensemaking. In this respect, a high degree of congruence between the subjective definitions of relevance and the constructed realities of the networks can be ascertained.:I. Einleitung II.
