Since its inception Research in Labor Economics has published over 350 articles encompassing a wide range of themes and spanning an array of labor economics topics. Authors have ranged from young scholars with much potential to mature leaders in the field, including Nobel Prize and John Bates Clark award winners. Over the years Research in Labor Economics has continued to present important new research in labor economics. It covers themes such as labor supply, work effort, schooling, on-the-job training, earnings distribution, discrimination, migration, and the effects of government policies on worker well-being. It aims to apply economic theory and econometrics to analyze important policy-related questions, often with an international focus. To commemorate Research in Labor Economics's 35th anniversary, this retrospective edition contains 20 of the most influential Research in Labor Economics articles along with new introductory prefatory updates written by the original authors. The 30th Volume of Advances in Econometrics is in honor of the two individuals whose hard work has helped ensure thirty succesful years of the series, Thomas Fomby and R. Carter Hill. This volume began with a history of the Advances series by Asli Ogunc and Randall Campbell summarizing the prior volumes. Tom Fomby and Carter Hill both provide discussions of the role of Advances over the years. The remaining articles include contributions by a number of authors who have played key roles in the series over the years and in the careers of Fomby and Hill. Overall, this leads to a more diverse mix of papers than a typical volume of Advances in Econometrics.

This classic sociological examination of art as collective action explores the cooperative network of suppliers, performers, dealers, critics, and consumers who-along with the artist-"produce" a work of art. Howard S. Becker looks at the conventions essential to this operation and, prospectively, at the extent to which art is shaped by this collective activity. The book is thoroughly illustrated and updated with a new dialogue between Becker and eminent French sociologist Alain Pessin about the extended social system in which art is created, and with a new preface in which the author talks about his own process in creating this influential work

The rule of law is essential to peace, and to the development and realisation of human rights. The practice of law is a privilege, but one that carries the heavy responsibility of ensuring respect for the law. In an interdependent world, lawyers must communicate and interact amongst themselves and with others, both at the national and international levels. The International Bar Association, as a professional body with a long and distinguished record of achievement, plays an important role in this respect. Written by eminent practitioners and jurists, this volume of essays marks the occasion of the Association's 50th anniversary. It takes as its theme the concept of the globalisation of the law, offering an in-depth and forward-looking analysis of a wide range of topics, among them: - the role of the lawyer in the information society, - the future of multidisciplinary practices, - the future of the foreign legal practitioner, - the role of law in economic development and the fight against corruption, and - the role of the lawyer in the UN. The preeminence of the International Bar Association in the practice, the milestone occasion marked by this work, the expertise of the authors, and the significance of the theme addressed all make Global Law in Practice a work of lasting import
