Expectations of nuclear war have fluctuated over time, peaking during periods of international tension. While there is no evidence of a secular change in the level of war expectation over time, a review of national survey & poll data reveals that the belief that one would not survive a nuclear war has become more prevalent. People who expect nuclear war & feel that they would not survive it are not automatically more supportive of nuclear disarmament. Their reaction includes both support for disarmament negotiations with the Soviets & military preparedness to counter the Soviets. 28 References. Modified AA
