Mihail Kogălniceanu and Nicolae Bălcescu, historians, writers and politicians, important actors of the revolution of 1848 in the Romanian Principalities, dedicated much of their early historical writings to the justification of the nationstate. Their main concern, common to the '48 generation across Europe, was to answer to the most important question related to the process of nation building and state building: "Who are we?", 1848 being for the Romanians the first moment of the collective constitutional memory. The article contends that the two historians retroactively applied to the past categories specific to the 19th century, the past itself being a weapon and guide for the future. Both Kogălniceanu and Bălcescu submitted the political project of nation-state building to a archeology identity called upon to justify.
In addition to his military professional duties, from soldier to officer, Gustave Hannezo (1857-1822), developed in Tunisia, from 1886 to 1909, a considerable archaeological activity, rich in excavations, epigraphic reports, and various artifacts, above all in Punic and Roman necropolises of Sousse, where was his main garrison. In the honor hall of his regiment, he installed a Museum, of which he gave in 1902 the catalog, joint with that of the museum of the city. He carried out shorter searches in Salakta, Mahdia, Hadjeb al-Aïoun, Lamta, Sfax, Bizerte, etc., but also during some garrisons in France and campaigns in Algeria. As he went along, he systematically pointed out interesting discoveries to the French Comité des Travaux Historiques et Scientifiques (CTHS). He continued after his retirement in France in 1909. Recalled to service since the declaration of war, 1914, August 2th, he monitored digging of trenches in northern France and found various ancient artifacts. Back in his Mâcon home in 1919, he went on publishing synthesis notes about Tunisian ancient cities, until his death in 1922. Many interesting facts could be gleaned in his notes and reports for Tunisian archeology. ; A côté de ses occupations professionnelles, un militaire de carrière sorti du rang, Gustave Hannezo (1857-1822) a développé en Tunisie, de 1886 à 1909, une activité archéologique considérable, riche de fouilles, de signalements épigraphiques, et d'objets divers, notamment dans les nécropoles puniques et romaines de Sousse, où se trouvait sa garnison principale. Il fit des recherches de plus courte durée à Salakta, Mahdia, Hadjeb el-Aïoun, Lamta, Sfax, Bizerte, etc., mais aussi lors de garnisons en France et de campagnes en Algérie. Au fur et à mesure, il signalait systématiquement les parties intéressantes au Comité des travaux historiques et scientifiques. Il continua après sa retraite en France en 1909. Rappelé au service dès la déclaration de guerre, le 2 août 1914, il n'oublia pas de surveiller le creusement des tranchées dans le nord de la France et y trouva divers objets antiques. De retour dans son foyer mâconnais en 1919, il continua à publier des notes de synthèse sur des villes tunisiennes, jusqu'à sa mort en 1922. Il reste beaucoup à glaner pour l'archéologie tunisienne dans ses notes et signalements.

International audience ; For archaeologists, historians, dendrochronologists and dendrologists this seminar was an opportunity to discuss the influence of the forest area on human activities and, reciprocally, the impact of human occupation on the environment, especially forest. This seminar clearly highlighted the development of renovation-restoration operations, interdisciplinary programs and the consideration of cultural heritage by local authorities in terms of legislation. This dynamic urge us to multiply exchanges on issues, methods and perspectives, in terms of research and in terms of career development. In this context, this seminar focused on the presentation and discussion of dendrochronology contributions to building archeology, "excavation" archeology and underwater archeology, around three major areas of human occupation: rural and mountain domain, urban domain and shoreline domain (coastline, lakes and waterways banks). ; Pour les archéologues, historiens, dendrochronologues et dendrologues ce séminaire a été l'occasion de débattre de l'influence de l'espace forestier sur les activités humaines et, réciproquement, de l'impact de l'occupation humaine sur son environnement, spécialement forestier. Il a permis de bien mettre en évidence le développement des opérations de réhabilitation-restauration, aux programmes interdisciplinaires et à la prise en compte du patrimoine culturel par les collectivités territoriales au regard de la législation. Cette dynamique incite à multiplier des lieux d'échanges sur les problématiques, les méthodes et les perspectives, à la fois en terme de recherche et en terme d'évolution des métiers. Traces et identité au Maghreb est une recherche qui s'inscrit dans le cadre du rapport dialectique existant entre l'homme et la matière. Un rapport qui émane d'une relation fort complexe entre état de culture et de nature. C'est une étude doublement dichotomique : archéologique/ethnographique concernant les traces matérielles humaines, et aussi anthropologique/sociologique concernant les spécificités culturelles et identitaires. Elle traite des objets archéologiques, architecturaux, urbains et muséaux ainsi que des expressions linguistiques qui constituent le reflet des idéaux et des valeurs identitaires humaines. Le champ choisi pour cette étude consiste dans un espace géographique, culturel, politique, historique et anthropologique très riche : le Maghreb. Par ce terme, nous entendons, particulièrement dans ce travail, les trois pays de l'ancienne « île du couchant »: le Maroc, l'Algérie et la Tunisie. Le but final de cette étude sur ces pays du Maghreb consiste à en saisir leur identité qui a une histoire longue et des racines plusieurs fois millénaires. Nous nous procurerons une vue d'ensemble sur une identité qui se reflète dans un ensemble de traits intellectuels, spirituels, affectifs et de produits matériels et immatériels qui servent à l'identifier, à l'authentifier et à l'affirmer. ; Traces and identity in the Maghreb is a research which falls within the dialectical relationship between man and matter. A report made by a very complex state of relationships between culture and nature. This study is a double dichotomy: Archeological / Ethnographic regarding human material traces, and anthropological / sociological concerning cultural identity and specificities. It deals with archaeological, architectural, urban traces and museum as well as linguistic expressions which reflect the ideals and values of human identity. The study is focussed on the very rich geographical, cultural, political, historical and anthropological space: the Maghreb. This term includes, especially in this study, the three countries of the former "island of the setting": Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia. The ultimate goal of this study on the Maghreb countries is to grasp that their identity has a very long history. This study provides an overview of an identity that is reflected in a set of intellectual traits, spiritual, emotional and material and immaterial goods used to identify, authenticate and tell.

Prehistoric archeology in North America is driven by a process of decolonization that forces us to question and redefine its practices, as well as its links with Aboriginal communities and their archaeological heritage. No longer having the monopoly of discourse on this heritage, archaeologists are developing new approaches that are more collaborative, multivocal and socially relevant. The question of appropriating the past remains problematic, however, as it is subject to debates opposing sociopolitical and interpretative positions that are sometimes difficult to reconcile. This article provides a brief overview of the situation and the resulting ethical challenges, illustrated by a contemporary case study located in Montreal. ; L'archéologie préhistorique nord-américaine est entraînée dans un processus de décolonisation qui l'oblige à se remettre en question et à redéfinir ses pratiques, de même que ses liens avec les communautés autochtones et leur patrimoine archéologique. N'ayant plus le monopole du discours sur ce patrimoine, les archéologues élaborent de nouvelles approches plus collaboratives, multivocales et socialement pertinentes. La question de l'appropriation du passé reste toutefois problématique, car sujette à des débats opposant des positions sociopolitiques et interprétatives parfois difficilement réconciliables. Cet article dresse un portrait sommaire de la situation et des défis éthiques qui en résultent, en l'illustrant à l'aide d'une étude de cas contemporaine se déroulant à Montréal.
