Safet Zec is one of the most prominent Bosnian painters and graphic artists. For decades he has been creating works with a certain number of motifs and returning to them on several occasions during his active years. Above all, in his works he depicts landscapes, architectural motifs (the house, the homestead, room, window, door...), still life (bread, a cloth, table, flower pot...), and human figures. While his early work dates back to a peaceful time in his life in former Yugoslavia, marked by an atmosphere of happiness, fulfillment, and freedom, his later works, which date from the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina and its end, depict the tragedy and collective suffering of a people. This paper aims to present the importance of the works of Safet Zec and to view his opus from the aspect of his choice of motifs, their transformation, and the message the artist conveys depending on the social circumstances. We hope that this paper will introduce the work of this artist to the wider and expert public, and provide a contribution to a broader view of his work, encouraging researchers to further study.

The Connection Between Abraham and Hades's Bosom in the Context of the Last Judgment Scene
In: Sosyal Bilimler Araştırmaları Dergisi
ISSN: 1309-9302
One of the most important topics of Christianity is the Last Judgment. The Byzantines, as a Christian society, showed great interest to this subject and produced many pieces of art depicting it. This scene consists of several themes coming together. Among the most important themes of the scene is Abraham and Hades's Bosom. Using these themes, the artists have kept the event alive in the minds of people about what will happen in the afterlife. While Abraham's Bosom is depicted to the right of Jesus as the area where those who found salvation are located, Hades's Bosom is located on his left side and those, who will face their punishment are seen there. The artists depicted the scenes in connection with each other. However, there is an important difference here. While Abraham's Bosom is an intermediate form for those who will attain salvation, Hades's Bosom has been the part of eternal fire. To make the picture more dramatic and remarkable, the painter depicted the lake of fire with the dragon of Hades swallowing the dead. Thus, the viewer can now clearly see what kind of suffering human beings will face in afterlife. The artists created a contrast between the two themes by using many permeable structures and transferred this to the paintings.

Ethical Dimension of Live Animals as Ready-made Objects in Contemporary Art
In: Sosyal Bilimler Araştırmaları Dergisi
ISSN: 1309-9302
Reaction through art, observed among the 20th century artistic movements, can result in artistic works in which animals are made the object of violence. The objections caused by these works sometimes make people question what art is and its value, and sometimes result in legal interventions. It is the forms of expression in contemporary art where idea gets ahead of physical production. In such an atmosphere, 'philosophy of art activities that question what art is' have become almost equivalent to artistic production. However, the controversial works make the concepts of ethics, law or public influence determine what art can or cannot be. In the background of all these developments, advances in the field of biology blurred the boundaries between animals and humans. After such developments, through which the anthropocentric thought system has lost its power, the position of animals in the system will also change. The reappraisal of animals will fundamentally affect the behavior of the human species towards them, undoubtedly. In such a system where the determinants of the concept of ethics are redefined, objectification of animals will not be ethical as before. In this regard, art can no longer be separated from other fields. When the determinant of the boundaries of art is a non-art field, the discussions within the field lose their meaning. This study aims to investigate the limits of contemporary art by examining the reactions to the selected examples of artists whose ways of including animals in their productions are criticized.
Self-explanatory Images: Analyzing Color Codes on Images in Design Studies
In: Sosyal Bilimler Araştırmaları Dergisi
ISSN: 1309-9302
The design process, which starts with identifying the design problem in design studies, is completed by conveying the message of the creative visual solution to the target audience. The images used in the design for the target audience are carefully selected by the design team. Images have a universal language and are transmitted faster than written texts. Images have layers of meaning as cultural indicators of their own time. For this reason, the most frequently used method for examining and interpreting images is semiotics. The colors used in the design also represent culture. Each color can have personal meanings as well as cultural and universal meanings. Color constitutes an important code system in the reading of images through semiotics. To develop the ability to incorporate colors into design, it is necessary to understand the science, psychology and meaning of colors. Visual communication designers and artists are aware that effective color palette choices are one of the techniques that enable guiding eye tracking in design. Color choices, color palette designs play an important role in visual aesthetics. In addition to the contribution of colors to visual aesthetics, the meanings they attach to the message are also important. In this study, the use of images in design applications is examined through the language of colors. The contributions of the use of color to the meaning of the image are examined through examples.
