This paper deals in general terms with the central topic of vertical integration in the oil industry, and in more specific terms with KPC's activities related to this: Historical survey of the main developments in the post-World War II international oil market; changing circumstances in the refining industry; Kuwait's oil history and KPC's investment's policy. The last section discusses constraints of KPC's alleged "success story": high financial costs, inimical attitude of Western multinational companies, and Kuwait's position within OPEC. (DÜI-Hns)
