With multicultural programs spreading rapidly throughout US public schools, it is questioned whether multiculturalism, in its present form, can successfully achieve its goal of promoting cultural self-esteem. Although children are now taught the general horrors of racial & ethnic prejudice & the need for tolerance & mutual respect, specific curriculum decisions are often factionalized among groups with different interests, eg, Afrocentrists.
