Der Sozialwissenschaftler Stephan Marks (zuletzt ID-A 49/10) richtet sein Hauptaugenmerk auf die gegenwärtigen globalen Krisen und zeigt, was getan werden muss, um die Hoffnung auf Frieden, Gerechtigkeit und Naturbewahrung zu stärken. Ausgiebig befasst er sich zunächst mit der Hoffnung aus theologischer, psychologischer und pädagogischer Perspektive und legt dar, wie man mit schmerzhaften Nachrichten umgehen und Hoffnung schrittweise erlernen kann. Dabei bezieht er sich oft, mitunter 3- bis 5-mal pro Seite, auf Aussagen bekannter Gröe︢n wie Kant, Buber, Broder u.a., aber noch mehr auf Texte unbekannter Namen, offensichtlich um seinen Ausführungen und Überlegungen mehr Nachdruck zu verleihen. Hin und wieder rennt Marks mit seinen Reflexionen und Intentionen offene Türen ein. Gleichwohl ist man beeindruckt von den vielen, von ihm angeführten positiven und negativen Beispielen aus aller Welt und nicht zuletzt auch von seiner grossen Belesenheit.
