Indigenous Indonesians, the Chinese minority and China: A study of perceptions and policies
This study attempts to analyse indigenous Indonesian perceptions of the Chinese minority and to ask how these perceptions, modified by economic and political constraints, manifest themselves in government policies towards this "trading minority" and towards China. It covers the period from 1949, when Indonesia became a sovereign state, to 1975 when the New Order Government abolished Special National Schools for the Chinese. (ISEAS/DÜI)

Patterns of Chinese political participation in four ASEAN states
In: Contemporary Southeast Asia, Band 15, Heft 3, S. 292-308
ISSN: 0129-797X
The Chinese in Southeast Asia take part in politics, formally and informally. However, the patterns of their participation differ, depending on the period and country where they reside. The author attempts to identify these patterns with special reference to four ASEAN states: Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Singapore. He shows that in Indonesia and the Philippines, Chinese political participation has been through "assimilated political parties". (DÜI-Sen)
