This book provides an analysis of the judgment of the Court of Justice of the European Union in the Pringle case. It focuses on the three main aspects of the ruling. First, it examines the part of the judgment concerning the validity of the European Council Decision 2011/199 - adopted under the simplified revision procedure (Article 48(6) TEU) - which provides for the possibility to establish a financial stability mechanism. Second, it evaluates the new rules developed by the Court in order to interpret agreements concluded exclusively by the member states, such as the ESM Treaty. Third, it assesses the Court's interpretation of the main provisions of the so-called economic pillar of the Economic and Monetary Union and the fundamental rules provided for by the Treaties (nature of competence, financial assistance, institutional balance, judicial review charter of fundamental rights etc.) with regard to the ESM treaty provisions

Describing the tensions that emerged between the Greek and Turkish Cypriots through the 1960s, Ripped Apart helps to provide a better understanding of a conflict that remains highly controversial. Volume 1 examines the local military build-up and a series of armed clashes that shook the island in 1964, and lays much of the background to the events that would follow in the 1970s.

Abstract. In this paper we examined whether the recorded precipitation changes cause erosion in Naxos Island, Greece using precipitation indices derived from daily precipitation totals, during the period 1955–2007, in order to develop an erosion risk model. Although the mean annual precipitation appear to be low (~360.0 mm), the erosion processes of the area are very intense, because of the intensive character of precipitation, the high slope relief, the differential lithology and the absence of important land cover The results of the analysis showed that the climatic changes in precipitation and the changes in land cover and land use are the main drivers for the erosion. This is why the 2nd (1971–1985) and 3rd (1986–2007) studied sub-periods may be called of high erosion risk, and especially the second one mainly because of the increased frequency of extreme precipitation events.

Abstract Introduction: In recent decades, it is observed a significant increase in the number of patients who visit Emergency Departments (ED). Therefore, it is imperative to adopt an effective triage system. Aim: The aim of the present systematic review was to explore the available Triage Systems for EDs. Material and Method: A systematic literature review in international databases (PubMed and Scopus) between January 2017 and April 2017. During the initial research 3462 articles were indetified, however only 11 met the inclusion criteria. Results: The most common triage systems in Emergency Departments are the Australasian Triage Scale, the Canadian Emergency Department Triage and Acuity Scale (CTAS), whereas the use of the Manchester Triage System is limited mainly due to its complexity. The application of the Emergency Severity Index (ESI) tends to be increased because of its advantages compared to other systems. It is important to mention that no study has been found in Greece to explore the triage system in ED. Conclusions: There are many scales and systems available for the effective triage in EDs and nurses play significant role in their implementation. Moreover, it is important the authorities to establish legislation in Greece so as effective triage systems to be applied in Greek hospitals.
