The complex adaptation system (CAS) theory of "adaptability to produce complexity" is a new theoretical perspective for the spatio-temporal evolution of rural tourism systems. Based on the CAS theory, the theoretical framework, structural composition, formation process, and evolution mechanism of the rural tourism complex system were examined and revealed. The suburban country region of Wuhan was taken as the area of focus for empirical research. The state of the rural tourism destination system in Wuhan has gone through various periods of development: the embryonic stage of the system (before 2000), formation (2001–2007), rapid development (2008–2015), and consolidation and transformation (since 2016). Under the environments stimulating external physical geography, social economy, market demand, and emergencies, multiple agents such as government, enterprises, residents, and tourists in Wuhan have actively adapted to the environment and other agents, and the interaction intensity and complexity have gradually increased, driving the emergence of system agent types, functional structures, and spatial patterns. The agents continue to grow, differentiate, and aggregate. The tourism product has shifted from the dominance of a rural ecological scenery and leisure agriculture to diversified development, and with the main function changing from sightseeing to leisure and vacation. The rural communities have been renovated and beautified, transforming them from a provider of rural service facilities to a co-builder of a rural-imaged tourism space.

PurposeIn this study, the authors investigate whether supply chain (SC) strategies (lean or agile) improve or hinder the supply chain transparency (SCT) and what factors affect this relation.Design/methodology/approachThe authors measure the level of SC strategy using natural language processing based on the annual financial reports of listed firms. Secondary data analysis is conducted on various databases encompassing 1,241 listed firms in China from 2011 to 2020. Additional tests are performed to assess the robustness of the results, and alternative explanations are duly considered.FindingsThe authors find that firms with an advanced level of SC strategy perform better on SCT. Furthermore, the authors observe that Agile SC strategy and Lean SC strategy have different effects on SCT over a firm's life cycle. Agile SC strategy (the ratio of the proportion of Agile SC strategy word frequency divided by the proportion of Lean SC strategy word frequency greater than 1) has a significantly positive effect on SCT in the maturity stage; Lean SC strategy (the ratio less than 1) has a positive effect on SCT in the growth and decline stages. An increase in online media coverage negatively moderates the impact of the SC strategy (frequency of Lean and Agile SC strategy-related keywords) on SCT in the maturity stage. An increase in government environmental subsidies positively moderates the impact of SC strategy on SCT in the maturity and decline stages. Additionally, an increase in industrial competition intensity positively moderates the impact of the SC strategy on SCT in the decline stage.Originality/valueThe authors' study contributes to the Operations and Supply Chain Management (OSCM) literature by revealing the positive impact of SC strategy on SCT with objective secondary data. Additionally, the authors examine the moderating effects of moderators over the lifecycle of a firm on this relationship in an emerging market context. The authors' findings offer valuable guidance to companies operating in diverse market environments, providing actionable insights to strengthen their SC strategies and enhance SCT.

New ventures' legitimacy problems, including cognitive legitimacy, appear to stem from 'legitimacy threshold' and 'the liability of newness'. Based on the legitimacy model proposed by Shepherd and Zacharakis, we extended their cognitive legitimacy from the customer's perspective in this paper. A theoretical framework is proposed to build cognitive legitimacy from new ventures' product, organization, and managers by differentiating customers' positive perception and negative perception. 100 samples were collected in an experimental study to analyze 900 decision values. The findings suggest that a company's cognitive legitimacy is related to both quantity of information and quality of information owned by customers. Specifically, customers' positive cognition will improve cognitive legitimacy, whereas the negative will decrease it. Therefore, cognitive legitimacy includes not only corporate recognition but also corporate reputation. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

AbstractArtificial intelligence has been widely adopted for digital transformation and value creation for enterprises. However, studies about how participants can co‐create value in the AI innovation ecosystem are needed. Thus, this research proposed a comprehensive research model to examine the impact of value co‐creation in the AI innovation ecosystem for competitive advantage and innovation intelligibility with the mediating effect of dynamic capabilities and innovation capabilities. We collected data from 234 AI‐related manufacturers for the structural equation modelling analysis. Results show that (1) the AI innovation ecosystem can bring economic value and relationship value to enterprises; (2) impacts of economic value and relationship value on competitive advantage and innovation intelligibility are not significant; and (3) value co‐creation does not have a significant impact on competitive advantage and innovation intelligibility, and dynamic capabilities and innovation capabilities play the mediating role. Theoretical contribution, practical implication, limitation, and future research are presented.

We examined the relationship between parental psychological control and their children's test anxiety in the Chinese cultural context, and tested the mediating role of the children's academic self-efficacy in this relationship. Chinese high-school students (N = 401, 158 boys
and 243 girls), aged between 15 and 18 years, completed a self-report survey assessing parental psychological control, academic self-efficacy, and test anxiety. The results showed a positive association between parental psychological control and the students' test anxiety. The students' academic
self-efficacy was negatively correlated with parental psychological control and the students' test anxiety. Additionally, results of structural equation modeling indicated that the students' academic self-efficacy partially mediated the effect of their perception of parental psychological
control on their test anxiety. These results reveal the negative influence of parental psychological control on their children's test anxiety and identify academic self-efficacy as a mediating variable through which parental psychological control exerts effects on their children's test anxiety.

Previous research has studied the relationship between higher education and economic growth, but the results are mixed. This paper analysed higher educational investment and economic growth theoretically and studied the long‐term dynamic relationship between them by using Johansen test, Granger causality test, impulse response function, variance decomposition and other empirical methods based on vector autoregressive model. The result indicates a long‐term stable equilibrium relationship among higher educational fund investment, human capital investment and economic growth. Specifically, higher educational fund investment and human capital investment have a significant positive impact on economic growth. Both higher educational fund investment and human capital investment are Granger causes of economic growth. Fund input is Granger cause of human input. Therefore, fund input is a major and driving impetus for higher education to promote economic growth. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Employee turnover is costly in terms of direct costs and indirect costs faced by organizations. Thus, researchers have investigated turnover for more than two decades. Different methods have been proposed to identify employee turnover risk. However, reducing and preventing employee turnover is still one of the biggest challenges to organizations. Quality function deployment (QFD) method is a systems approach to quality engineering. Employee turnover risk identification mainly involves employee turnover risk factors modelling, identifying risk factors' index, and determining index weights. In this paper, we propose a multi‐level employee turnover risk identification model using modified QFD method. AbstractBased on the project team's knowledge activities in the knowledge chain, we analyse the knowledge management, develop a design structure matrix (DSM) model, and utilize the AIDER clustering to solve the cooperation problems caused by team members from different departments. By analysing the coupling relationship between team members' knowledge chains and clustering the knowledge activities with a high coupling degree, the project team's knowledge chain achieves integration. Finally, plugging the proposed method into a business case shows that the method can improve the project team's knowledge management performance.

AbstractIntelligent manufacturing system is considered as the key of industrial competitiveness, which has a far‐reaching impact on the enterprise development. This paper conducts an analysis of intelligent manufacturing in small and medium‐sized enterprises (SMEs). The study provides insight on upgrading manufacturing SMEs in industry 4.0 era.

The factors that affect formation and dissemination of public opinion have been studied for a long time. However, the findings are disparate and fragmented, given the characteristics of netizens and new media in the Big Data era. To this end, this article introduces eight mechanisms working on formation and dissemination of public opinion on network. Based on system dynamics, this article further proposes a comprehensive causal relationship model to explore the factors affecting the consequence of public opinion on network. Particularly, the role of government is taken into consideration in this model. A simulation with Vensim PLE is conducted. The results of the simulation indicate that group polarization among netizens, opinion leaders, the quantity of media audience, the frequency of media report, government attention, and warning mechanism for public opinion crisis affect the consequence of public opinion on network significantly. Implications of the findings are discussed.
