"The relationship between Jews and Christians and between Judaism and Christianity during the 13th and 14th century is a matter of concrete and contingent historical circumstances; and its ideological elements are inherent in pre-modern Catholicism and pre-modern Rabbinical Judaism. Indeed, both St. Paul and the Rabbis are typical revolutionary figures of late antiquity who present themselves as the authentic interpreters of old sacred writings. Throughout the ages, the interpretation of the Sacra pagina remained at the very center of Chris-tian and Jewish theology involving hidden or manifest polemics against the rival interpretation. Still, this fundamental and fixed element did not prevent dramatic changes in the concrete historical manifestations of Judaism and Christianity. Nowhere else, the parallel developments in both religions were as spectacular, often even traumatic, as in Italy, France, Spain, and Germany, where Jewish communities had existed since late antiquity; and where Jews and Christians had developed stable forms of coexistence. These were severely shaken by the dramatic events that marked the ascendancy of European hegemony beginning with the first crusade at the end of the 11thcentury. "

; During the Reformation era , three editions of the Bible appeared, some of them partial: New Testament 1526, four separate editions of parts of the Old Testament 1536, entire Bible 1541. The translators worked primarily with the Latin translation of Erasmus and with Luther's German translation, using also of his prefaces and glosses. The names of the translators are not known. Many researchers have tried to determine their identity through analysis of language and orthography. This research centers on the question of which theological ideas were of primary importance for the translation of the biblical text, and more particularly for the revision of Luther's prefaces and glosses. The translations correspond well with Luther's theology, but there are also – in all three Bible editions – some typical differences, particularly with reference to the importance of law and gospel, canon and tradition, good deed and the delineation of authority within the church. These differences are in harmony with the theology of Olavus Petri, who had studied in Wittenberg and was the only Swedish theologian of the time who published. But considering the overall historical context and Petri's many obligations, and in view of the fact that several other young Swedish theologians of this time also studied in Wittenberg or at other German universities, he is certainly not the only translator. Omarbetat 2012.
The commentary of Rashi (Rabbi Shlomo ben Yitzhak, b. Troyes 1040, d. 1105), part of the Jewish core curriculum, is reprinted here together with the Hebrew biblical text. This study takes selected portions to investigate citations of the Hebrew bible and the Masorah in Rashi's commentary, thus providing an introduction to medieval Jewish biblical interpretation and the Ashkenazi tradition of reading the Hebrew bible.
The Yalkut Shimoni is collection of rabbinical commentaries on the Hebrew bible. Research has not yet explained all of the criteria for selecting these commentaries or clarified whether the work was conceived as a comprehensive reference work for exegetic issues, to be combined with the biblical commentary in the Talmud and Midrash, or to reform rabbinical interpretative tradition. This translation is a first step toward resolving these issues.

Main description: Since Late Antiquity the biblical epic has been one of the most lively literary genres. It was practised not only in scholarly but also popular languages. This study deals with biblical epic in the Early Modern Age, a subject that has been neglected to date. Chronologically it follows on from the fundamental works of Herzog and Kartschoke. It looks not just at theoretical aspects of the genre, but also at questions of the forms and functions of European biblical epic and the reception of biblical content. A repertory of the genre is arranged according to systematic aspects.
