Are violence and deviation unavoidable in suburban establishments? Spontaneously, the difficulties of suburbs are explained on the basis of the deterioration of the pupils' social and family environment. A comparison of two popular suburbs makes it possible to approach the issue from a different perspective. The problems these schools face are also due to the weakening of the school. This is because colleges have to manage their problems on their own, and often on a case-by-case basis, and teachers no longer have points of reference other than their good awareness and knowledge. As they cannot offer pupils a general and integrative framework other than a regulation, colleges do not succeed in opposing deviating behaviour and their actions no longer make sense outside the school setting. These remarks apply in particular to suburbs, but it is the school as a whole that is confronted with this situation. ; International audience Are violent and delinquency behaviours phenomena inescapably linked with suburban schools? The difficulties experienced by suburban establishments are spontaneously believed to originate in the students' social and family decaying environment. A comparaison between two inner city schools enables a new approach to the subject. The problems these establishments have to cope with are also to be ascribed to educational system growing weaker. As a matter of fact, should a problem arise, the school have to settle it on their own and the only landmarks of teachers are their conscience and ability. Unable to offer the students general and integrating surroundings -appart from regulations- the schools fail to contend with deviant behaviours and thier actions have no meaning beyond the school premises.
